Pat Robertson, the American televangelist, today appeared to withdraw a diatribe against Ariel Sharon in an attempt to salvage his $50 million plan for a biblical theme park in Galilee.
Ministers in Jerusalem were furious after the millionaire preacher suggested that the Israeli Prime Minister suffered a stroke in divine retribution for carving up the Holy Land in withdrawing from Gaza.
The future of the project, nicknamed Jesusland and criticised by some for commercialism in an area of undeveloped rolling hills, is now hanging in the balance.
Pat Robertson is constantly lowering the bar for appropriate behavior from American evangelicals. Only the most crass money grubbing Christian capatalist would try to build a biblical theme park in the land held most holy by three of the most prominent religions in the world. This man is single handedly putting the "Ugh" in ugly American.
(Though I have to admit I was looking forward to the "Sermon on the Mount"-ain minecar adventure ride. I mean think of all of the possible attractions like "Heal the Lepers" valley, and the "Water into Wine"water slide, and of course the "Rising from the Dead" cave crawl. It is a guaranteed money maker.)
