The U.S. military, responding to an inquiry, said aircraft had targeted a house after three men suspected of planting a roadside bomb were seen entering the building late on Monday.
After three men suspected of planting a roadside bomb. Did we get them? Were they really guilty? Was it worth the fourteen innocent lives?
I already know the criticisms that will be leveled against me because of my take on this.
- I do not understand war. No. I do understand war. Which is why I lament its use to solve our problems in the 21st century.
- The loss of these "innocents" will insure the safety of other innocents that might be targeted by these criminals. The key terms is "might". But we killed these guys because they were going to kill "innocents", but to do it we did the same thing. It is kind of hard to take the high road when we kill as indiscriminately as our enemy.
- In war the loss of innocent human life is an acceptable price to stop a greater evil. Acceptable to whom? To the families who lost a child? Or a father?
- We did not start this conflict. Yes we did! Iraq did not attack us! We attacked them!
I am not a military person (You might have gathered that!) so I am sure that my mind set is different from somebody who sees this conflict as some giant geo-political struggle of good versus evil. But I am an American and I would like to believe that my country is on the side of good. This does not help!
It is kind of hard to take the high road when we kill as indiscriminately as our enemy.
ReplyDeletePicking a house at random, that would be 'indiscriminate.' I will grant, however, that sometimes the enemy does manage to be more discriminate than we are -- such as when they wait until the maximum number of children are in the target zone before setting off the bomb.
Acceptable to whom? To the families who lost a child? Or a father?
To the many more families whose children, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, et. al. are saved, perhaps?
Iraq did not attack us!
Iraq attacked our allies. And consorted with our enemies. And violated the ceasefire. Three casi belli right there (and not a WMD in the lot).
Iraq attacked our allies ? who? ( esp. since we hardly have any allies any more) ...what a total crock....somebody has been watching Fox and drinking the Koolaid....
ReplyDeleteand saved families ???? I feel so sorry for the families there - who worry by the minute about their kids and don't have a normal life- there is no playtime...no trips to the park or even the market....your reader needs to read Baghdad Burning the Blog by a woman about Life in Iraq, since the Americans have arrived....it might open up her eyes, her heart and her mind.... ( Dar Jamil also has a blog, but I can't remember the name)
