The Pakistan foreign office had paid tens of thousands of dollars to lobbyists in the US to get anti-Pakistan references dropped from the 9/11 inquiry commission report, The Friday Times has claimed.
The Pakistani weekly said its story is based on disclosures made by foreign service officials to the Public Accounts Committee at a secret meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday.
It claimed that some of the commission members were also bribed to prevent them from including damaging information about Pakistan.
The magazine said the PAC grilled officials in the presence of foreign secretary Riaz Mohammad Khan and special secretary Sher Afghan on the money paid to lobbyists.
“The disclosure sheds doubt on the integrity and honesty of the members of the 9/11 inquiry commission and, above all, the authenticity of the information in their final report,” it said.
Holy shit! If this report is accurate then we need to launch an investigation into what was happening behind the scenes of the 9-11 commission. And that investigation needs to happen as soon as possible!
This is not a partisan issue. If Democrats took money from Pakistan then we need to hold them accountable as well. Our government should not be for sale to any foreign government! Hell it should not be for sale to anyone!
This investigation needs to be broad enough in scope to look into any other possible cases of influence peddling from foreign entities. I am not ignorant enough to think that our leaders are not influenced by lobbyists from other countries, but that should not disuade politicians from doing their job with integrity and honesty. And no country can be allowed to keep a committee from finding them culpable for a criminal act by paying them off. That is a case for having these politicians removed from office!
And now I am extremely curious as to just what Pakistan was trying to hide? I would like to know that as well. Wouldn't you?
