In dramatic and sometimes agonizing terms, federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees, put lives at risk in New Orleans' Superdome and overwhelm rescuers, according to confidential video footage.
Bush didn't ask a single question during the final briefing before Katrina struck on Aug. 29, but he assured soon-to-be-battered state officials: "We are fully prepared."
You know I think that we all owe Michael Brown an apology. He was an easy target and I, and many others, took the cheap shot. I still don't think that he had the experience to be leading this very important agency, especially during the largest natural disaster in American history, but it looks like he did at least try to do his job.
In contrast it appears that the administration did everything they could to look like they were doing their job while really just sitting around and waiting for the situation to sort itself out.
So I have this to say to Michael Brown.
"Brownie, you tried to do your job. Thank you sir."
