"Get out!"Let us not think that Tom DeLay's decision not to seek reelection was prompted by merely temporal concerns. The Rev. Rick Scarborough, DeLay's sometime pastor, told the New York Times that The Hammer confided in him last Saturday that "God wanted him to get out of that race."
I would just like to say that I would really like anybody hearing voices to leave public office voluntarily.
Now I am not just be picking on those speaking to God. If you are hearing from Adolph Hitler, Socrates, Albert Einstein, the Trix Rabbit, or anybody else who is not firmly connected to our reality, I would like you to no longer make decisions that affect me and my family.
Is that really so much to ask? I don't really care that you believe in a higher power, I just don't want you having dinner conversations with them.
You know I worked with children who often had ongoing discussions with disembodied voices. Never once did I think "That person would make a good Senator." If you are crazy then I feel it is incumbant on those of us who appear not to be crazy to keep you from gaining any power. Just seems rational. Maybe I am wrong.
