The American Civil Liberties Union sued the state of Alaska on Monday over a new law that would restore criminal penalties for marijuana possession.
The law, which was signed by Gov. Frank Murkowski on Friday, is an attempt to reverse a 30-year-old Alaska Supreme Court decision that ruled the privacy rights of Alaskans trumped the harm the drug could cause. The legal limit was later set at 4 ounces.
The civil liberties group alleges the new law is an unconstitutional invasion of privacy.
``Is marijuana so dangerous that it justifies restricting a fundamental right? The state thinks it's yes, we think it's no,'' ACLU of Alaska.
Don't they know that Maryjane is a "gateway drug"? (Kids, "Maryjane" is what dopers of my generation used to call marijuana. I am all about the educating.) I was so upset that the ACLU was going to stop this obviously necessary new law that I almost spilled my rum and coke.
Look pot is evil, and alcohol is good. Don't you watch the cool beer commercials on television? If marijuana was cool it would have commericals featuring hot girls too. Besides the stuff grows everywhere. How good can something be that does not need to be processed to get you fucked up?
Can you believe my state is so conservative that it elected George Bush twice and yet it still has such liberal marijuana laws? It really makes it hard for me to understand what we stand for up here.
Oh yeah, guns, oil, and the freedom to drive giant SUV's. I wonder how that will look on a license plate?
