Sutherland, who plays agent Jack Bauer on the show, has agreed to talk to cadets at the West Point military academy in New York state after army chiefs claimed the show's torture scenes are influencing its newest recruits.
Earlier this month, Brigadier General Patrick Finnegan visited the set of 24 to urge its makers to cut down on torture scenes.
He told the show's producers, "I'd like them to stop. They should do a show where torture backfires. The kids see it and say, 'If torture is wrong, what about 24?'
Okay this is troubling for a number of reasons. The first is that a television show is having a stronger impact on these young people then the hardened military experts who are instructing them.
The other is that these young people are clearly looking for reasons to make torturing another human being permissible.
But the third is that this show is being used by the administration to show that terrorism could happen again right in the heart of America. They have literally used the show's story line to support their argument that we are all in danger.
I do not usually support censorship. But it is possible that this show is doing more harm then good. Maybe they should give it a special rating, "TV moron+". If you are smarter then a moron you may watch this show.
