Latest official figures released by the Pentagon reveal at least 116 self-inflicted fatalities in Iraq. But this does not include several dozen still under investigation, nor any of the many cases back in the U.S.
It is beyond my ability to imagine what it must be like to live under the constant threat of your own impending death. To know that every single time you leave your base it may be the last time you ever see it.
How long before that constant state of not knowing what lay in store for you, convinces you that deciding the time and place of your death should be up to you? Perhaps many of our soldiers believe the only way to keep their government from killing them is to take their own life.
No more fear, no more wondering, no more sleepless nights. How long before a brave man decides to confront the greatest fear of all?
Every death, whether from an IED, sniper, accident, or from the soldiers own hand, is another reason to indict George W. Bush for war crimes against his own nation.
That doesn't even count the ones who make it back only to slowly self-destruct.
