One year after Couric jumped from NBC's "Today" to CBS in a big-money talent deal, the "Evening News" anchor is embarking on a high-risk tour of Iraq and Syria to revive the broadcast.Announcement comes just days after an Iraqi translator working for CBS was killed in Baghdad. CBS said Monday the translator had been found dead following his abduction just hours after leaving work at CBS News' Baghdad bureau.
Couric has never been to Iraq, and she will be the second of the big three anchors, following NBC's Brian Williams last spring, to venture to the region since ABC News' Bob Woodruff was nearly killed by an IED attack on his convoy outside Baghdad in early 2006.
Okay I don't watch CBS Evening News, and I am not a huge fan of Katie Couric, but I certainly don't want to see her blown up in Iraq no matter what kind of ratings that might draw.
Katie is good at talking to Martha Stewart about how to make doilies out of used coffee filters, she is not somebody who should be in the middle of a war zone.
If CBS wants to get rid of her they just need to buy out her contract, not send her to her death in Iraq. Just look how sad she is.
I am going to start the "Save Katie" campaign. She is perky, not bulletproof dammit!
Maybe they should give Dan Rather his job back! He will cover Iraq without this flimsiness!!
