Democracy returned Iraq to the Stone Age. Good going Democracy!

Electricity Ministry spokesman Aziz al-Shimari said power generation nationally is only meeting half the demand, and there had been four nationwide blackouts over the past two days. The shortages across the country are the worst since the summer of 2003, shortly after the U.S.-led invasion to topple Saddam Hussein, he said.

Power supplies in Baghdad have been sporadic all summer and now are down to just a few hours a day, if that. The water supply in the capital has also been severely curtailed by power blackouts and cuts that have affected pumping and filtration stations.

Karbala province south of Baghdad has been without power for three days, causing water mains to go dry in the provincial capital, the Shiite holy city of Karbala.

"We no longer need television documentaries about the Stone Age. We are actually living in it. We are in constant danger because of the filthy water and rotten food we are having," said Hazim Obeid, who sells clothing at a stall in the Karbala market.

The idea that these people will respect us or the puppet government that we put in power there is almost beyond absurd.

I am just sick and tired of hearing all of these "experts" coming on news talk shows and talking around the real issues that are confronting these people. Then they make the argument that as soon as the Iraqi government starts to work together things will be fine. Which is complete over simplified bullshit!

You know the only correspondent that seems to always speak the truth and never waters it down to please his bosses or politicians, is CNN's Michael Ware. He always makes it clear just how desperate the Iraqi citizens plight is and how unlikely our military maneuvering will change it.

Whenever I see Michael on my screen I turn up the volume because I know I am about to hear the real truth for a change. And now days that is like a cold drink on a very hot day.

  1. It is supposed to hit a heat index of 105 to 107 here today. I think about the Iraqis having to live in that heat without air conditioning.

  2. With temps in the 110-118 range..these folks are roasting alive..and they have BushCo to thank for it. God, I get worked into a screaming frenzy just thinking about what they have to deal with...the babies..the elderly..hell, just regular adults can't handle that heat without water.
