Just two days after the U.S. Navy released the eerie video of Iranian speedboats swarming around American warships, which featured a chilling threat in English, the Navy is saying that the voice on the tape could have come from the shore or from another ship.
The near-clash occurred over the weekend in the Strait of Hormuz. On the U.S.-released recording, a voice can be heard saying to the Americans, "I am coming to you. You will explode after a few minutes."
The Navy never said specifically where the voices came from, but many were left with the impression they had come from the speedboats because of the way the Navy footage was edited.
I am so used to being lied to by our government, the Pentagon, and our military that I paid only passing attention to this story. Sadly I simply believed it was another attempt by the Bush administration to continue to push for a conflict with Iran.
Of course I really did not think we would ever know the truth.
But I was wrong.
As the above story explains the Navy has tried to retreat from allegations that the Iranian speedboats were threatening them with explosive devices. And this is after EVERY cable and network news station reported it as a fact. And we would have all had no real reason to doubt the veracity of the Navy's claims. After all there WAS a videotape.
Except that the Iranians decided that they did not want to be misrepresented by the American media again, and they released their own video which does not show the dramatic confrontation that the Navy video seems to show. Oops!
In other words the Navy was shown to be manipulating the evidence to support the contention that Iran was being confrontational and aggressive, which is exactly what the Bush administration wants us all to believe.
So for the thousandth time we see that we are being lied to by this government.
If that does not piss you off and make you want to change our government for good then I can't imagine what would at this point. And no Republican offers any real change. They are in lockstep with this President and his policies (With the exception of the wild eyed Ron Paul)
Real change can only come from the Democrats. And not Hillary Clinton either, whose only change as President would be in which public restroom she used.
I don't know if we will ever know...
