Somehow, unlike the "Passion of the Christ", I don't think this film will be shown in any churches on Sunday mornings.

"Basic Instinct" director Paul Verhoeven will publish a revisionist biography of Jesus in September, following more than 20 years of research.

The Dutch filmmaker, who has had a lifelong ambition to make a film about Jesus based on scientific research, claims that Jesus' father was probably a Roman soldier who raped Mary during the Jewish uprising in Galilee. He also claims that Christ was not betrayed by Judas Iscariot.

Anybody who has done any research into the historical evidence about Jesus Christ knows very well that it in no way jives with the biblical account.

Personally I am fascinated with any evidence that either supports or refutes the belief about Jesus that is considered "factual" by the church.

However there is little doubt that the Christian community at large will be incensed and start protests and letter writing campaigns that will do nothing except create free publicity for this film and send many more ticket buyers rushing to see what the controversy is all about.
