On Monday, John McCain released the outlines of his economic agenda, promising to balance the federal budget by the end of his first term by saving money from achieving victory in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Well we are currently losing ground rapidly in Afghanistan and according to Prime Minister Maliki the war in Iraq has already been won.
So according to John McCain we should start to see at least half of the budget start to achieve balance. Right?
Oh wait! First you have to acknowledge that the war in Iraq is over. And if McCain does that he has nothing to run on anymore. Of course he could always hope that the Bush administration will finally start that war in Iran. That would give McCain yet another war that he could use to convince the American voter that they need a guy like him who has been in combat to keep sending our troops to die in wars that were started to help Republicans win elections.
Though if that were to happen it would totally FUBAR McCain's plan for balancing the budget, and now we are right back to where we started. According to McCain as long as we have war we will never balance the budget, and long as we have a Republican in office we will always have war.
Of course if our country is finally tired of perpetual war they may want to elect a President who talks about peace.
Now where would we find a candidate like that?
