What's the difference between the presidential campaign before and after the national political conventions? Lipstick. "You can put lipstick on a pig," Barack Obama told a rally in a reference to a line in Sarah Palin's vice presidential acceptance speech. "It's still a pig. You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still going to stink after eight years."
Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama told an audience Tuesday that GOP presidential nominee John McCain says he'll change Washington, but he's just like President Bush.
"You can put lipstick on a pig," he said to an outbreak of laughter, shouts and raucous applause from his audience, clearly drawing a connection to Palin's joke even if it's not what Obama meant.
McCain's campaign called the comments "offensive and disgraceful" and said Obama owes Palin an apology. Obama's campaign said he wasn't referring to Palin and said the GOP camp was engaging in a "pathetic attempt to play the gender card." Obama's camp also noted that McCain once used the same phrase to describe Hillary Rodham Clinton's health care plan.
We just heard yesterday that it is confirmed that Karl Rove is working with the McCain campaign. But hearing that was unnecessary as these kind of tactics would have made it obvious.
I have been amazed at reports that Sarah Palin has revitalized the Republican party and breathed new life into the John McCain presidential race.
It seems to obvious that this is pandering at its most transparent. If I were a woman I cannot imagine that I would be swayed by this insulting attempt to get my vote.
Palin is woman who presents herself as a maverick conservative. But we have found that she asked for millions of dollars in earmarks for Wasilla while she was mayor, gets $60 dollar Per Diem payments for staying in her OWN home, was perfectly fine with the "bridge to nowhere" before it was politically doomed (yet still kept the money to build a road to where the bridge WOULD have been constructed), has used her power to punish those who dare disagree with her, and either placed her newborn in danger by giving a speech and then flying from Texas to Alaska after her water broke OR lied about being pregnant and is covering for her daughter Bristol's teenage pregnancy.
I cannot imagine just which past Hillary Clinton supporters would allow themselves to be manipulated like this.
you should read some of the comments on anti-Obama blogs -- they are calling Palin "everywoman"
ReplyDeletewe're doomed.
No we are not.
ReplyDeleteThose people were never going to support Obama, they are just using Palin as their current reason. If she did not exist they would have found another reason.
Sarah does not represent me. She is way too conservative, and I fear, she has a problem with the truth.
ReplyDeleteNo woman who is concerned about women's issues would EVER support Palin's anti-choice, anti-equality views.
ReplyDeleteWho are these cyborgs they claim to be swaying?
They haven't swayed anyone. The Obama haters were always Obama haters. We aren't doomed, and as long as Obama stays on message (which is McCain=Bush) you'll see the undecided voters come off the fence in favor of Obama. Ms. Moosemeat is a mere diversion just now and the gender bullshit only works on idiots who already like McLame, even though he sold them out to the religious whackjob fundies.
ReplyDeleteWhat you are seeing now is a sort of Rapture Party of the bible-humpers, and it can't last for long before people want to know their stance on the issues. Let's wait 'til after the debates to worry, K?
Good job Gryphen. You just keep getting better 'n' better!
Don't know if this helps, linda sama, but if you go to more centrist, moderate cites like CNN or MSNBC and see comments on stories there, it's usually about 4-1 in favor of Obama on almost any given story.
ReplyDeleteMy own comment the minute he introduced Palin to the Rep Party Natl Con: McCain's move is simply tactical, an attempt to hijack Hillary's women voters.
ReplyDeleteBtw, what's this thing that older son was a drug addict. Could it be the reason for dispatching him to Iraq?
"but if you go to more centrist, moderate cites like CNN or MSNBC and see comments on stories there, it's usually about 4-1 in favor of Obama on almost any given story."
ReplyDeletethanks! I have been reading those sites...but since I've been blogging furiously about Palin, I like to keep up on what the Kool-Aid Drinkers are saying....
linda sama I hear ya. I'd be in a constant state of nausea if I spent any time over at any Obama hate sites.
ReplyDeleteThe fact I see so many rational people commenting against the GOP and Ms. Moosemeat tells me the mainstream media are lying again. Go to HuffPo too... she posted questions yesterday about the validity of the current polls.
I like to keep up on what the Kool-Aid Drinkers are saying....
ReplyDeletejust don't fall for it. the 'we're doomed' meme plays into their game, and it is bull, we aren't doomed in the least.
The fact is Saint Sarah is just a reason for many not to vote for a black man. Look at the huge bump McCain got in the South. They will make Sarah a saint so they don't have to admit to being bigots.
ReplyDeleteDid you all see this yet?
ReplyDeletePalin family mess in N.E.
Sadly, I doubt it will do anything. The true believers are in the throes of Caribou Barbie Worship. It will be Obama's fault that her kids are complete fucktard messes.
Yeah Helen I have the story posted above.
ReplyDeleteBut thanks for the info.
Without the support and information I get from the comments section I don't think I would have much to post.
D'oh! I should have known you'd get it first!
ReplyDeleteI think that comment was totally 'piggist', and Obama should immediately apologize to pigs everywhere.
