Virginia Republican chairman encourages staff to compare Barack Obama to Osama Bin Laden. It is clear the politics of fear is all the GOP understands.

In McCain's Gainesville, Va., office, Virginia Republican Party Chairman Jeff Frederick, standing on a folding chair, spoke to 30 campaign volunteers who were about to go canvassing door to door.

He gave them "talking points," Tumulty writes, "for instance, the connection between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden."

Said Frederick: "Both have friends that bombed the Pentagon," in a reference to Obama acquaintance William Ayers. "That is scary."

Even though John McCain himself has shown some reticence in using inflammatory language, it is clear the Republican party as a whole is not so evolved.

Comparing Barack Obama to the most hated terrorist in the world is a dangerous gamble. Americans have been conditioned to fear Osama Bin Laden and al-Qaeda, and by comparing the Democratic candidate to him is indefensible. Do they have any idea what they might set into motion? Do they care?

And what do they do if their words cause some racist half witted jerk to actually attempt to cause Obama harm? Who will bear responsibility for that? The Republican party? Sarah Palin? John McCain?

Just how far is John McCain willing to go to win this election?

Hi Gryphen...this was in the Washington Post today, and on the evening news. I just watched a CNN interview with McCain, and the reporter asked him about this guy. McCain claimed he was a "fringe party member"...but is in fact head of the Virginia GOP! Anyway, this creep has a website, just google his name, and you will find it, since he is actually up for reelection this year! I wish I lived in his district. I nonetheless have called and emailed them to express my outrage.
