Murkowski, up for reelection in 2010, is nervously awaiting word on whether John McCain’s former running mate will run against her in the GOP primary. But she says Palin is the one who should be nervous.
“I can guarantee it would be a very tough election,” Murkowski said in an interview.
Palin is also up for reelection in 2010. She could run for a second term as governor, but the Senate holds some obvious attractions: a national platform, and with it the chance to beef up a thin résumé and rebuild damaged credibility on foreign policy and other issues.
But Murkowski says a run against her would be fraught with risk. If Palin lost, her stock would drop just ahead of a potential 2012 presidential run. And if she won, she’d be a backbencher in a chamber that is dominated by seniority — and would have to begin her presidential campaign as soon as she took office.
“If she wants to be president, I don’t think the way to the presidency is a short stop in the United States Senate,” Murkowski said.
It sounds to me as if "Crazy eyes" Murkowski really fears a Palin run at her Senate seat.
And well she should, since Palin has had past success unseating a Murkowski. It was Lisa's father, Frank Murkowski, that Sarah defeated for the Republican nomination to run for Governor.
This has often been a topic of conversation between my friends and I, and we really think that Murkowski's seat is in some very real danger. Sarah Palin is the Republican darling right now and Lisa Murkowski is an uninspiring follower of recently defeated Ted Stevens.
And what is even more worrying is that now that Mark Begich is replacing Stevens, the Democrats simply do not have a very strong contender to go up against Governor Sarah.
Palin is a deeply flawed candidate who has abused her office and violated a number of ethics law, but sadly the majority of Alaskans are still not well educated about that.
It looks like the Alaskans for Truth will have to turn up the heat a little.
What, me worry? Ferheavensake, the 2010 Alaskan US Senatorial election won't be for nearly 2 years!
ReplyDeleteHow can anyone be "nervously awaiting word" that much in advance? I'd say the "nervously" part is vastly overstated.
Besides, I don't think Murkowski has anything to worry about. After Sarah Palin gets done pumping up her own resume gallivanting all over the country, there isn't ANYBODY who'll vote for her over Murkowski.
Which reminds me, Palin's spokesman Bill McAllister said “It has been 27 days since the election and this is the fifth day (Palin) has not been in the state...” -- which, subtracted, seems to equal 22 days she's supposedly been IN the state.
However, instead of functioning as Governor all that time, she's been having interviews in front of dying turkeys, reviewing her purloined wardrobe, packing for Georgia/Pennsylvania, etc.
She's actually been on hand to work an estimated maximum of 15 days in November (and it's probably less) -- don't forget, she got the Thanksgiving holiday off, then leave on Sunday for Georgia.
Boy, oh, boy, the citizens of Alaska are sure getting their money's worth out of their Governor's "Republican base" popularity, aren't they?
why don't you or shannyn moore run for some type of office.
ReplyDeleteLisa would whoop Sarah's ass in a debate.
ReplyDeleteQuestion is: Would ignorant, entitlement-mentality Alaskans notice?
You misspelled Senator as "Seantor"
ReplyDeleteUntil following Stevens and Palin I had no idea Alaska was known for its corrupt Politicians. Looking at Palin looking like a Nazi and knowing she is a piece of crap I just want to see her gone!
ReplyDeleteThanks Ferrell! There is no spell check for the title and I often make a silly misspelling which I need to correct. That one slipped by.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks Anonymous10:17 for that vote of confidence. I am personally unfit for office but I will pass along your recommendation to my friend Shannyn.
i might sound like a half-witt over here but i keep thinking Monegan has public/statesman appeal, as well as bipartisan appeal. is that nutty? i don't live in Alaska, but i see him as honorable and as a statesman. he carries himself with just enough confidence and humility. and he looks tough as nails. and when I see him, I think, Alaska. so...is that dumb? can i hereby endorse Monegan for something? again?
ReplyDeleteoh, and he has a good record at taking care of Alaskans.
ReplyDeleteNo Jen you are not "dumb".
ReplyDeleteNor are you the first person to think of that possibility.
So far Monegan has stayed mum on the subject however.
