George Bush attacked in Iraq! With shoes!
An Iraqi journalist hurled his shoes and an insult at George W. Bush, without hitting him, as the US president was shaking hands with the Iraqi premier at his Baghdad office on Sunday.
As the two leaders met in Nuri al-Maliki's private office, a journalist sitting in the third row jumped up, shouting: "It is the farewell kiss, you dog," and threw his shoes one after the other towards Bush.
Maliki made a protective gesture towards the US president, who ducked and was not hit.
The journalist, Muntazer al-Zaidi from Al-Baghdadia channel which broadcasts from Cairo, was frogmarched from the room by security staff, an AFP journalist said.
Soles of shoes are considered the ultimate insult in Arab culture. After Saddam Hussein's statue was toppled in Baghdad in April 2003, many onlookers beat the statue's face with their soles.
Some Iraqi journalists stood up to apologise.
The White House said Bush ducked to avoid the first shoe, while the second narrowly missed the president.
Bush said: "Thanks for apologising on behalf of the Iraqi people. It doesn't bother me. If you want the facts, it was a size 10 shoe that he threw".
Playing down the incident, the president later added: "I don't know what the guy's cause is... I didn't feel the least bit threatened by it."
I don't usually condone violence against public officials, but if anybody deserves to be struck by an Iraqi shoe it is George W. Bush. I am just sorry the guy missed.
And the fact that it is an Iraqi journalist just makes it that much funnier. I bet there are dozens of American journalists who would like to do that and much, much more to George W. Bush. Not to mention a few liberal bloggers.
And though I don't like to give George Bush any compliments, did you get a load of Bush's reflexes? The guy is quick!

He was quick, but did you notice how slow the Secret Service were, not a one in sight for a good while really...I was laughing so hard and so was Michail Ware when he was talking about it earlier with Wolf before they had the video up. He was just chuckling about it.

ReplyDeleteThis really just sums up the Bush presidency...thank God we only have five more weeks of this clown. Yes, Dubya, this will be one of the final images that goes out around the world to seal your legacy forever....having to duck for cover while a shoe is being hurled at you just like the Iraqis did to the Saddam statue. You are seen in their eyes as being a lower life form than a dog. Good job.

Assuming that George W. Bush did in fact murder the Jewish former Senator—Paul Wellstone, would Bush have committed a hate crime? Bush would have “purposefully” (criminal-law terminology) murdered Wellstone. Wellstone’s Jewish wife and Jewish daughter also died in the plane crash. Bush would have “knowingly” (criminal-law terminology) murdered Wellstone’s wife and daughter. However, would Bush’s murders of Wellstone’s Jewish wife and Jewish daughter also have constituted hate crimes?
