Alaska bloggers cost Levi Johnston his North Slope job. Oops.

Levi Johnston, the Wasilla teenager planning to marry Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter, Bristol, has quit his North Slope oil field job over questions about his eligibility to participate in an electrical apprenticeship program, Johnston's father said today.

Johnston this fall began working at the Milne Point oil field through the ASRC Energy Services apprenticeship program.

However, radio talk show commentator Dan Fagan, in a newspaper column published Sunday, questioned how Johnston could take part in the apprenticeship program without the required high school education.

Johnston's father, Keith Johnston, said in a telephone interview that his son decided to resign today and return home to work on his education.

"He felt it was the best thing to do to kind of calm the waters, so to speak," the elder Johnston said.

I doubt very seriously that it was only Dan Fagan's column that contributed to Alaskans questioning whether Levi was qualified for that sweet apprentice electrician job or not.

The topic was extensively covered by this blog, as well as Mudlfats, Andrew Halcro, Progressive Alaska, Celtic Diva, not to mention a number of national blogs and websites, that found the story much too juicy to pass up.

Now I am sure that Dan Fagan's article may have started the ball rolling (Even though it was at least two days after my first post on the subject), but I would hardly give him all of the credit. I think that Papa Johnston would just rather give him credit because he is "one them". In other words a conservative.

Don't want to give those "liberal bloggers" too much publicity now do we?

The senior Mr. Johnston also undermines the main premise of the Fagan article by saying that Governor Sarah did NOT have anything to do with Levi's preferential treatment.

Keith Johnston also said the governor had nothing to do with getting Levi Johnston the oil field job. Keith Johnston said his own position as an ASRC construction engineer accounts for any help his son received in landing work.

Whether Mr. Johnston's account is true, or Dan Fagan's is true, I think we can all rest assured that if Levi was indeed qualified for that slope job he would still be up there making a boatload of money. You don't just walk away from that kind of cash simply because somebody hurt your feelings.

"Palin, in an interview, denied helping Levi Johnston get the job."

Well the Governor might not have helped Levi get the job, but by telling the media to back off the high school dropout story she intervened to suppress questions about Levi's qualifications for the apprenticeship.

  3. FYI--Fagan's gotten more attention for it (probably because he called Bo Underwood of ASRC), but Andrew had it on his blog first.

Just wanted him to get credit for that.

Its kind of creepy to read a Fagan column and agree with him. Its happened twice now, (I hope its only twice) if this keeps happening I'm going to have my head examined.

Perhaps its just being cooped up in the house because its so cold. I have got to get out more.

  5. As I said the other day... just keep digging... as long as this stuff keeps coming to the surface she can't keep hiding it. the more you write about it and the more people who write about it the better.

Poor kid, has a lot of growing up to do. Lesson number one, never listen to or care what a leftwingnut has to say. Their morals and values are equal to a manure pit. He has a family to raise, he does not want to do it the way so many liberals do I hope, off other workers paychecks. While liberals believe welfare is a birth right and expect the government nanny state, responsible parents make sure they are able to take care of their own kids.

  7. Didn't Sarah Palin write a letter of reference for Levi to get the job, and said how long she had known the family, etc. etc.

Of course now with Levi's mom being brought up on drug charges, Palin claims she didn't know the family well.

Gryphen, please no more Notalib. What do liberals have to to with Levi Johnston's lack of a high school diplaoma? His posts are retarded and dumb down your blog. I don't even think he knows what a liberal is in the political sense.

Notalib...socially I consider myself a liberal. I do not think the government has a right to interfere in private matters, i.e. I am pro-choice, I feel gays have the right to be married (why should only us heteros be miserable?), and I am for strong public education. I think medical marijuana should be legal. Am I pro-welfare? No...no one should be rewarded with free money for doing nothing. But government is here to serve the people who are paying to run it, and taxes are the price we pay for living in a civilized society. We should support programs that enrich our lives and not throw it away on useless beauracracy and overspend on national defense.
I think the "death tax" should be eliminated no matter what someone's estate is worth.

Gryphen this is your blog, but I think you should put it to a vote....please ban Notalib!

Also, Notalib, you are contradicting your own statement by reading to and commenting on this blog...quote..."never listen to or care what a leftwingnut has to say". Why do you come on this and many other so called leftwing blogs if you don't care...are u a closet lefty?

  11. Yeah Notalib I thought we had an understanding that you could express your opposing viewpoints so long as you did not engage in personal attacks.

You are going to force me to kick you off if you continue being so disrespectful. I personally have gone on a few righty blogs and managed to disagree with them without having them run me off with pitchforks and torches, so I know it can be done.

Once again try to keep the level of discourse elevated. I have NEVER thrown anybody off of the comments section, and I don't see how it furthers your cause to be the first.

  12. I love your blog. I follow your site from GA. You rock!
I must admit that I was one of those bloggers who questioned Levi's ability to get the electrician's apprentice position w/o being fully qualified. I personally believe that it is wrong for a person who is not fully qualified to get a job ahead of someone who is fully qualified and is on a waiting list. Also, I believe that a politician who is running for public office should also be qualified and free of nepotism and cronyism.
    A special message for Notalib:
Has it ever occurred to you that not everyone who receives some form of gov't assistance is just lazy and looking for a handout and that poor people are not poor because they are lazy and do not want to work? The opposite is true in many cases. Most poor people work and many people who are on welfare would love to have their names removed from the welfare rolls. Do you know that welfare helps millions of kids with free lunches, medical care, clothing, housing, etc. on a daily basis? I work with these kids and see firsthand how they live. Do you? Surely a conservative who possesses family and Christian values cannot stand to see children living like this. Don't bother with a response because based on your comment, it is quite obvious that you can bear to see kids living like this.

And what about adding some more illustrations? I don’t want to offend anyone, blog is really nice. But according to the scientists visitors acquire info much more efficient if there are certain helpful images.
