Finishing up Chapter Twelve in "Trailblazer: An Intimate Biography of Sarah Palin". A story of "fired" government cooks and buns in the oven,

Chapter Twelve continues to describe some of the Palin decisions when she first took the reins of Government. She restored the longevity bonus, tried to sell Murkowsi's jet on E-Bay (Which of course was a silly publicity stunt which did not work), she reached out to the legislature, and began negotiations with companies that were interested in possibly building the gas pipeline. (Chapter Twelve pg. 169)

Which of course brings us to that whole "fired the Governor's chef story".

In June, she let go the governor's chef, Stefani Marnon, who had been cooking for the governors since the mid-1990's. "Bottom line is the governor does not need a gourmet chef at the mansion," said Sarah's spokeswoman, Meghan Stapleton. "From the start, she has been very uncomfortable with a gourmet chef. It's a luxury item she does not think Alaskans should be paying for." Sarah viewed Marnon's departure as a sacrifice she had to make because other departments were cutting back. (Wow if I am going to dig through this giant pile of bullshit I am going to need a bigger shovel!) "She wants to do her part,"said Stapleton. Sarah also felt it was superfluous (not in the Palin vocabulary)to have a full-time chef if she was not living in the mansion year-round. She told the voters that she would get by just fine; she could cook a meal, and the could make sandwiches in a pinch. (Chapter Twelve pgs. 174-175)

Okay well this sounds very good and makes Palin out to be a fiscal conservative but of course that is only because we have not yet discovered the truth. And to it's credit the book does point this out.

Marnon wasn't actually laid off. The Anchorage Daily News reported that she was reassigned as a "constituent relations assistant" in the governor's office before finding a position as a chef for the Alaska legislative lounge. (Chapter Twelve pg. 175)

And what were Ms. Marnon's duties while she was a "constituent relations assistant"? Good question! Nobody seems to know the answer to that.! And did this change save the Alaskan people any money? Nope, not a dime!

So why DID Palin REALLY reassign Marnon? Well that answer can be found here:

The breezy item, headlined "Chowhounds", starts off by giving away the actual reason Marnon left the Governor’s Mansion:

"Remember the long-time executive chef who lost her job at the Mansion when Sarah decided to live mostly in Wasilla instead of Juneau?"

Marnon, in short, wasn’t fired to save money. She was fired because Governor Sarah Palin – whose executive credentials, displayed over an 18-month term, far out-strip Barack Obama’s accomplishments in some people's minds – spent most of her time as governor 567 bad-road miles away from the capital of Alaska.

So the book, which is really a love letter to Sarah Palin, helps to clarify yet another lie.

The rest of Chapter Twelve did not seem terribly revelatory. However the last page did provide this titillating last paragraph:

Sarah had another personal mater to tend to. On December 4, the anniversary of her gubernatorial inauguration, she was sitting in her Anchorage office when she got a call from her doctor. She asked if the governor had some time that afternoon to stop by her office. Sarah sat straight up in her chair and politely asked her doctor just to give it to her straight over the phone. "The baby you're carrying. " she said, "has Down syndrome." (Chapter Twelve pg. 179)

Shovel hell, for this next chapter I am going to need a freaking backhoe!

Interesting that she chose the anniversary date of her gubernatorial inauguration to cite and place the date of the call from her doctor.....

Perhaps an anniversary date is easier to recall when questioned by pesky reporters/bloggers etc.?

Since there is an inherent danger in amnioscentesis, a Pro-lifer should not choose to have one unless she is considering termination of the pregnancy if the news is bad. Why would she have an amnio?

The whole "firing of the chef" bullshit has annoyed me since the beginning.

Reassigned is not the same as fired.

I too was frustrated about the firing of the chef. It had been reported early on that she had been reassigned...and once I learned Paleshit lived in Wasilla and collected per diem....I knew exactly why she reassigned her. How some of her backers can be so stupid I will never ever understand

PS...sorry for adding the curse word to her name....I just cant take it anymore. I will behave in future.

  5. I, too, thought it was odd to see in the newspaper that an employee had been fired, to read further that the employee was just reassigned.

Maybe, by the end of June GINO found out that her daughter was expecting...the chef would be the first to notice a change in eating habits. And maybe that is why the decision was made to move back to Wasilla amongst friends. During the GVS interview, GVS asked Bristol something like what happened in school (relating to maybe to sex ed course), and Bristol said school was out, it was early summer. (Out of the mouth of babes?) The baby could have been born before the date provided by GINO, since the picture of the baby with Sadie is smaller than the one shown by the grandparents at the hospital.

Thanks, Gryphen, I love your blog!

mdlw56: GREAT POINT about the Bristol Interview... I remember having problems with Bristol's statement about summer, and you finally nailed it for me! She DID say that, and thus, she must have talked about TRIG, not TRIPP! So, if she got pregnant 'early summer', which means June, she would have delivered in February... That's why we never will get a certified birth certificate on Trig... That's also how she could become pregnant again in 2008, to be 'about five months' pregnant on Sept.1, 2008, when her 'mother' (I take that title loosely...) threw her under the Repub bus in order to prove that *she* - GINO - was the mother of Trig.

Interesting how much SH*T the rightwingers get away with. GINO says she fired the cook, but in reality she reassigned her, thus NOT saving the Alaskan people A DIME! (And... all the rightwigers dutyfully repeat all her lies and fall over backwards, trying to brown-nose GINO whereever and whenever they have to tiniest of chances to do so...
