Dan Sullivan: Wrong Choice for Anchorage
Whose Interests Will Sullivan Serve?
Dan Sullivan is a Bar Owner whose campaign is being heavily funded by the liquor industry.
Considering how Sullivan voted on the Assembly, can we expect that his actions will be influenced by his ties to the liquor industry?
* While serving on the assembly, Sullivan, siding with the bar owners, opposed the anti-smoking ordinance.
* While on the Assembly, Sullivan made decisions affecting the placement of the new Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center, all the while planning the opening of his own business, a pub directly across the street.
* Sullivan has received $12,000 in contributions from bar owners and people associated with the liquor industry. And that doesn’t include the contributions he got from a March 15th fundraiser co-hosted by these eight bar owners and liquor distributors:
Doran Powell – General Manager, Chilkoot Charlies
Carol Hartman – Co-Owner, Fantasies on 5th and Club Elixer
John Pattee – Owner, The Gaslight and The Avenue
Darwin Biwer – Owner, Darwin ’s Theory
Mike Gordon – Owner, Chilkoot Charlies
Bob Winn – General Manager, Blues Central Manager
Don Grasse – Executive VP and General Manager, K&L Distributors
Ed O’Neill – VP, Brown Jug
* Although Sullivan received $1,000 from CHARR, the trade association that represents liquor interests, he failed to disclose this when asked at the Downtown Rotary Forum March 9th which groups had endorsed him.
Alcohol abuse causes so many problems in our community – crime, violence, abuse. We can’t afford a Mayor who protects the interests of the liquor industry at the expense of public health and safety.

This is interesting information isn't it? It looks like Dan Sullivan's contributors have a common attribute. They all believe that Alcoholics Anonymous is for quitters.
Well no sooner do I read this bit of information then I find out about a poll that shows up on Andrew Halcro's blog.
The poll taken between March 27-31 of 416 registered voters, showed Sullivan garnering twice the support as his nearest challenger.
Sullivan 42%
Croft 21%
Selkregg 13%
Claman 5%
Monegan 5%
Honeman 3%
Unsure 11%
I have to say that those numbers are a little surprising. Especially since I have not heard of any other polls that put Sullivan ahead, especially by such a large margin.
It makes one wonder where this poll was conducted, and whether the participants remembered to tip their waitress after they finished answering the pollsters questions.
You seem to be intensely slamming Dan Sullivan. He has an Irish Pub that also serves very good food. Your charges are totally without merit. Dan is NOT immoral. I suppose any restaurant that serves alcohol is "immoral"
ReplyDeleteAnd, another thing Ed O'Neil sold the Brown Jug some time ago.
I suggest you get your facts straight. THAT would be very helpful.
