Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) called on Sen. Mark Begich (D-Alaska ) Thursday to step down from his seat and run in a special election in the wake of the Justice Department’s decision to drop corruption charges against former Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska). Begich narrowly defeated Stevens in 2008, a contest overshadowed by Stevens’ October conviction.
Palin’s call came after a reporter at the Fairbanks News Miner emailed her a copy of a statement by Alaska Republican Party Chairman Randy Ruedrich calling for Begich to step down.
Asked for her response, Palin simply wrote back: “I absolutely agree.”
When the reporter wrote back to confirm that Palin meant she’d like to see Begich resign in order to hold a special election, the governor responded: “Yes.”
In an email to POLITICO, Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton confirmed the governor’s position. “She absolutely agrees that there should be a special election,” Stapleton wrote. “Stepping down to hold the special election would be the right thing to do.”
I am absolutely speechless. Even I cannot believe that she would have stooped to such transparent partisan bullshit.
There will not any "special election" and Governor Sarah has just lost any support she could have hoped to retain from any moderates in this state. Only the reddest of Republicans will still have anything to do with her.
Un-fucking-believable!
I thought this was an April Fool and had to check Politico to see if it was true. Palin has definitely jumped the shark.
ReplyDeletePalin is still seeking her 15 minutes, jeez hasn't she had like 45? Tomorrow is D day, deadline for the stimulus package. If she stiffs the state for her very unrealistic dream of higher office its time for recall. The powers that be won't impeach, it will be up to we the people.
ReplyDeleteOMG, Can we just get her out of office???? She has no intelligance and cannot think for herself. This just tops everything!!! Mark won fair and square. This is beyond stupid its got me outraged.
ReplyDeleteThey seem to think this was a plot to get rid of Stevens so Begich would win the election. The problem is it was the Bush regime that did it. They do not even get the fact that it is the integrity of the Obama regime that has set him free.
ReplyDeletePlease, PUH-LEEZE, AK Democrats...can we start the Palin recall NOW????
ReplyDeleteBegich won, fair and square.
ReplyDeleteWhy aren't the lawmakers putting laws into place to protect the public from prosecutors with huge egos guiding them and not a love of the law and the people they should be protecting from bad guys? Lawyers run the Bar-- there should be impartial juries of people or volunteers to get trained in knowing what to look for, to oversee lawyer antics. . . and punishments doled out!

So. Did Begich tell her what to do with her special election?
ReplyDeleteAnyone stupid enough to consider voting for an 85 YEAR OLD MAN voted for him, conviction or no conviction, that's why the race was so close. He's a Republican and he brings in lots of federal dollars. That's all they need to know.
ReplyDeleteEveryone else voted for Begich for various reasons, and I doubt that one of those reasons was because Ted was a convict.
If Ted comes out saying that he thinks Mark should step down and that there should be a special election he will LOSE votes that he got last time around, not gain more! Idiot! He can run for the seat next time, if he's still around.
Palin is THE MOST IGNORANT PERSON in the United States of America.
ReplyDeleteRecall.
Impeach.
WHATEVER. Just do it.
PLEASE...This is not official.........Palin is just making you mad so you take the eyes off the ball, off the issues of governing efficiently.
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin is a troll. Do not feed her. Insist the she addresses the issues of government. do not give up. The m@###@$ is dangerous!
Gryphen,
ReplyDeleteThis is the point in the show where Rod Serling is supposed to step out, cigarette in hand, and explain that we are now in the Twilight Zone.

SarahPAC is conducting a poll to find out how many of you would have voted differently in 2006 if you knew you were voting for someone who has (before or since) lied about:
-how closely involved her unelected husband would be in all sorts of decisions and deliberations;
-the fact that her children were not invited to, nor were state employees at, numerous events to which the governor was invited and for which she
collected state money for the children;
-her numerous claims on the campaign trail that Alaska is "building a gas pipeline" and that she told Congress "thanks but no thanks" for the
"bridge to nowhere;
-her numerous claims at numerous times over the course of these many months that she would meet with legislators in Alaska, with leaders of her
party and of various national groups, all of which she or hers spokespeople have had to cancel with little or no explanation;
-the fact that her administration was "open and transparent" in spite of the fact that she and her administration have spent considerable time,
money and effort to block public access to records that are of clear and legitimate public interest and import.
Who wants a special election for governor now?
Please answer here.
ps Sarah Palin's demand that Begich resign was done in her capacity as the co-leader- along with Rush Limbaugh- of SarahPAC, not in her capacity as
governor. If you don't understand the difference, that's too bad for you, because we don't either.
Sarah as SarahPAC leader wants a vacancy now, so she can run for Senate. Sarah as governor hopes to have a long and harmonious relationship with
Senator Begich.
Her stunts are becoming weirder and more frequent. Caligula popped into mind at this latest one.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone thinks this is bizarre (which it is) - check out Think Alaska & ADN. She's now challenging the Dems rejection of Dorfy - wants an open vote of the whole senate. OMG!
ReplyDeleteBegich already won- you all need to start Impeachment Proceedings- the narcisstic bitch needs to go....it's time...( and us in the lower 48 will help you plenty)
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely outrageous...there was an election, Begich won, and that's the end of it. Just because some BUSH Justice department idiots got a little too zealous in prosecuting this case doesn't excuse the fact that Stevens is a corrupt bastard and broke the law.
ReplyDeleteYou need to get the recall going NOW
I truly do not know how you folks live with this woman - she drives me to near madness and I'm in NJ Hang in there!! And I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for everyone in Alaska that Palin has a momentary lapse of snark and ego in order to accept the money from the stimulus plan for your state - the deadline is today right?
ReplyDeleteStevens is still guilty, according to jurors they spoke to. The misconduct doesn't change the facts.
ReplyDeleteThe misconduct in question was NOT that the charges were false or made up, it is things like lawyers having personal relationships and the withholding of evidence, NOT that the evidence was not real.
msnbc says levi has done the tyra banks show
ReplyDeleteThis is beyond belief. To think that corrupt old bastard should be back in office is ludicrous. Please good people of Alaska, start a petition to get this sick woman out of office. Thanks a lot Holder.
ReplyDeleteLet Stevens run against SarahCuda in 2010 - let's see what happens.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, if I read everything correctly, I don't hear Stevens demanding a special election OR for Begich to step down.
So why doesn't he have the balls to come forward and tell everyone his opinion? Oh yeah, he WAS guilty, the prosecutor screwed up.
