A spokeswoman for Sarah Palin says the Alaska governor is going to accept most federal stimulus funds.
Spokeswoman Sharon Leighow says Palin is only likely to reject nearly $29 million for State Energy Programs funds because she believes it to be tied to developing a statewide energy code.
Palin had initially indicated she did not want to accept about a third of the $930 million available to Alaska because of strings attached that would bind the state in the future.
Legislative budget leaders couldn't find those strings, however.
Lawmakers passed bills accepting nearly all funds available to Alaska. Once the bills reach Palin's desk, likely by early next week, she has 20 days to accept or veto them.
Well it looks like the Governor is taking the money for education and that is a good thing, but rejecting the funds for the State Energy Project is Sarah pandering to the oil companies.
These funds are directed to provide grants to the states to design and carry out their own renewable energy and energy efficiency programs. In other words this is money to help our state to stop sucking at the teat of big oil and develop alternate, renewable energy sources, and our Governor is standing in the way of that progress.
That is the trouble with these evangelical idiots, they think they are about to get Raptured and therefore don't believe the planet needs to be protected. That is exactly the kind of thinking that has resulted in the overcrowding of our planet and climate crisis we face today.
Our state desperately needs to move toward clean burning alternative fuel sources and our Governor is too ignorant and self involved to give a shit about it.

ReplyDeleteDear God, please make her wish come true and Rapture her as soon as possible.
I can only hope Alaskans are aware of climate issues and are not hoping to be "taken" within the next few months. BTW- there are Evangelicals who love our planet and want to protect it-we need them to become leaders. I am in no way an Evangelical, and I do not agree with much of what they believe, but I do agree we need to take good care of the planet we inhabit.
ReplyDeleteWe desperately need good alternatives-even solar could work there in Alaska– Land of the Midnight Sun...
Please, do something to get rid of your Governor-she knows nothing but thinks she knows everything and has been "chosen." If there is anything the rest of us can do to help, please let us know...
So, how does her refusal to take this $29 mil for State Energy programs align itself with her State renewable energy goal of 50% by 2025??? Per the ADN article here:

My neck gets sore from shaking my head so often....she is causing me whiplash sitting my chair!
She thinks the end is near, and for her, it is. As far as politics goes! Can you imagine someone so extreme in the white house?
ReplyDeleteEvery day Palin proves to the world she is an idiot!
ReplyDeleteFor all the reasons already stated (environment, getting off oil, etc etc) - but what about the jobs that could have been created from that money working on renewable energy sources - jobs is something everyone can get behind and support and folks need to take to streets and force her to do the right thing for Alaska.
One good thing came out of her running for vice president - hopefully enough people in Alaska now know the truth about how incompentant she is and she will not be re-elected - I keep hoping that she will be recalled or impreached before that but not holding my breath
who is kidding whom?
ReplyDeleteIt's a total charade. There is no justification not to take the money.
It's only another of many a pose for Palin to hide behind.
There is no requirement to be forced to adopt another energy code, the law states that the state can design it's own.
Something the state has already done. It's called the 'Alaska Building Energy Code' and it meets all the requirements asked for.
The state already has this statewide energy code on the books, just try to get a loan through the Alaska Energy Authority, you'll be required to hew to the energy code.
There are no 'strings' attached to this money that we either don't already have, nor would establishing an even more stringent energy code be any problem at all, on the contrary it's the only sane thing to do from a policy standpoint.
Only in the bizarre world of Palin would it be a bad thing to promote and institute sane building practices for energy efficiency.
Impeach Palin for malfeasance.
Start the impeachment process now,
before she has a chance to do any more damage.
