Who does Sarah Palin work for, the Alaskan people or SarahPAC? Well we already know the answer to that question don't we?

An ethics complaint against Alaska Governor Sarah Palin will be filed this afternoon asserting that Palin’s involvement with SarahPAC constitutes "outside employment" and "misuse of official position."

Anchorage resident Sondra Tompkins, child disability advocate and mother of a special needs child, is filing the complaint after observing Governor Palin repeatedly display “a pattern of unethical behavior.” Sondra believes that the tipping point for her was Sarah Palin’s most recent abdication of her role as Governor and apparent conflict-of-interest when she spoke at two outside events in Indiana rather than work with the Alaska Legislature during the most critical time, the end of the session.

The complaint alleges:

a) Governor Palin has entered into a contract outside of her official duties with the donors, employees, partners and any or all other participants involved in Sarah PAC.

b) The recent partisan trip.

c) The Governor left the State to participate in these events during the most critical end-of-session Legislative activities, at a time where the legislators themselves are not permitted to leave

When Palin flew down to Indiana to give a speech to a group that could be very useful to her 2012 presidential campaign, while leaving mountains of work undone as the legislative session wound down, that was the straw that broke the camel's back for Mrs. Tompkins.

I know Sondra quite well and she is certainly not somebody to go off half cocked. She has been simmering about this for quite some time and finally decided she simply had to speak out about this un-ethical behavior. And I support her decision 100%.

Gryphen, do you mean Indiana, instead of Virginia? Or am I behind?

  2. I'm glad that Alaskans continue to stand up to SP, but how many ethics complaints will it take to bring her down? Filing the complaint is just the beginning, who takes it from there? The AG? The legislature?

Trouble is, American politics is so sick that anything like this always boils down to political support. Americans aren't interested in doing the right thing in the political sense which is best for the state, the country. It's simply a matter of Dems will try to destroy her, Repubs will support her. If she was a Dem then it would be reversed of course. Nobody rises above it in America and it's destroying the country.

Not suggesting for a minute that Palin isn't a witch who should have a wooden stake driven into her heart. Just to suggest that the American political system is completely fucked and nothing but a disaster is going to turn in around.

  7. Not to mention her visit from the Orange County Chopper guys who are making a special 50th anniversary [of what?] motorcycle... awesome!! Awesome, that is, to an alleged governor who's distracted easily by shiny objects. "Magpie," more and more, applies to GINO.

Gryphen, please pass to Sondra Tompkins a tip of the hat!! What a good model and civic leader, Mrs. Tompkins! Tip of the hat, again!!

Thanks, Gryphen. You know, I wonder, being a former child advocate (IDEA) volunteer, what would be her position regarding Trig Palin's rights, including his right to privacy?

Palin were interested in furthering the interests of her own state's constituents instead of her national political standing, she'd agree to speak to a special needs or right-to-life organization IN ALASKA.

I'll bet there's at least ONE of each of those on her desk among all those "thousands of invitations" she's said to have received.

  15. The obvious question to me is, Isn't opening a legal defense fund or a PAC exploitation of office. If that's the case, then she is guilty of the ethics charge filed by Sondra.

Sec. 39.52.120. Misuse of official position.
    (a) A public officer may not use, or attempt to use, an official position for personal gain…

In my my opinion she is using her office to obtain money to pay her legal fees and that is clearly a monetary benefit. Why pay out $500,000 when you can nickle and dime the public to do it for you.
