On Wednesday, she carried her message to about 150 teens at a town meeting forum at The Times Center that included "Heroes" actress Hayden Panettiere and Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Matt Garza, who was a teen father."It's a big flop," said Jerry Kowal, a senior at Solomon Schecter High School in Hartsdale, N.Y., referring to Palin's campaign to get teens to abstain from sex.
"I don't think it's her real opinion," the 17-year-old told ABCNews.com. "She's just trying to help her mother. She said it herself that abstinence education doesn't work. I looked it up."
"I don't get it," said Raina Brot, 15, from the Beacon School in Manhattan. "She's being kind of a hypocrite."
"It's about peer pressure," said Joy Ocean, 16, from Brooklyn's John Dewey High School. "It's a little overwhelming, and she hasn't been in our shoes."
"I saw [Bristol Palin] on TV and how hard it was on her with her mother in the spotlight," said Mignonette Brathwaite, Ocean's 15-year-old classmate. "She knows her mother is worried about her political campaign. She wouldn't want her to mess up her image."
Their classmate, Rose Acevado, 16, knows the pain of a teen pregnancy. Her sister suffered a miscarriage after hiding a pregnancy for nine months. Today, her sister is pregnant again.
"This is a good thing," she said of the message of abstinence, but not from Bristol Palin. "We'd take it from someone true and honest, not a celebrity."
Holy crap, it is a freaking rain wreck!
The Governor needs to bring her little girl home and get her out of the limelight. Just because it feeds Sarah's ego does not mean that her whole family will become as addicted as she is to its harsh revealing illumination. Bristol looks scared and completely out of her element.
What kind of a mother subjects their child to this kind of scrutiny and negative publicity?
Why are the Palins putting their daughter and their grandson through this ridiculous ordeal, which is obviously a political charade? WHY? It is so cruel. Someone should intervene.

Meagan McCain wiped Bristol off of her column? That is, she took the photos of Bristol that where part of Meagan's great blog. I like her and respect her work. That is a little too sacrilegious of blogdom for me. Since there are those that may see me as sacrilegious, it's a draw.
I wish I had time to start a blog of censored Palin. The history of certain Palin pictures and articles disappearing is interesting in of itself.
It's obvious that SP's ploy -- aka forcing Bristol to drag the bus along -- is a bust. Damn you Sarah, leave your children out of this!
ReplyDeleteEvery day, I find a new reason to despise the Ice Queen. My mother was controlling, but she gave me an out : go to community college (even though I had a scholarship to the university) and live at home, or join the military. So I did join. And thus I found my freedom, although there was a price to pay.
When I did get married, she sent a trunk full of baby booties and such... I didn't get pregnant for another 4 years.
I feel for Bristol, and Willow, and little Piper. May you each find a way to find your own freedom, and the sooner the better.
I feel sorry for her. Imagine having Sarah for a mother. When the real truth comes out about Trig, I think we'll find even more reason to have empathy for her. Truly, what kind of a future does Bristoll have.

Levi is her Romeo. He is devastated. She is damaged goods, a psychological mess and in a cult like situation. Her face often shows this. She is unaware to a point, but knows when she is lying. She is too crippled to be her own person, the mother, church, sea4peers and others guide her. She looks broken down to build back up. As if, a robot model was ready to test.

I'm just wondering-- did the Candies People think that Bristol was going to be a great spokesperson for their cause-- based on that articulate interview with GVS, Fox-- or did Sarah Palin orchestrate her appearance-- in part to counteract Levi's TV appearances?? Quite frankly, I have always seen a certain "dynamic" between Sarah and Bristol, with Sarah really angered by Bristol spoiling her family values attraction to the far right conservative base of the Republican party. To get psychological here, was Sarah really punishing Bristol??
ReplyDeleteFor example, when the rumors were flying that Sarah didn't give birth to Trig, and she offered to provide medical evidence-- all she had to do was proudly show the birth certificate and the photo that everyone takes of mom-dad-and-and-new-baby in the hospital. Instead, she did something awful, humiliating, embarrassing to Bristol, disclosing her pregnancy as the reason why she (Bristol) couldn't have given birth to Trig.
Announcing Bristol's pregnancy did not to prove that Sarah was Trig's birth mother, and it was such a cruel thing to do to her daughter. Unless Sarah was really mad at Bristol for... you can fill in the blank... getting pregnant, getting pregnant again, what else????
To be honest here, if she never said a word about Bristol, we would have believed that Bristol was at home, going to school, wearing loose fitting clothes, and we never would have noticed. Most of us in the lower 48 never heard the rumors, and the MSM dropped that story like a hot potato. If fact, many people commented that dragging the kids out of school and all over the campaign trail was not a good thing for the kids. Piper had a hard time catching up in school, and Trig may not have received much needed therapy. Many people saw them as props.
So, I return to my original thought that this may have been another PR disaster planned by either Sarah or her "people." I can't imagine that Bristol wants to put herself out there to answer personal questions and advocate for a cause that she clearly doesn't practice.

You are hitting the nail on the head do don't be afraid to be psychological. My mother was a narcissit, controlling, manipulative, jealouse -- yes ! Jealous ! She was 27 when I was born and thus when I was 13 and my rose was blossoming and she was 40 with a fading rose, boy oh boy did she get jealous==of me getting attention from my father, from my brother, from "boys" and boy oh boy could I tell you some stories.
Palin wants the attention and will not share the spot light with Bristol unless it is to "spotlight" Bristol's embarassment and to shame her publically. Yes, Palin is furious at Bristol for damaging her run for VP--was the timing great or what for the pregnancy.
Bristol's job is to reflect admiration to her mother and not to be admired for her own self.
There are huge psycological dynamics being played here and if Bristol ever decides to go further against her mother, she will be in just as much physical danger as Levi--remember they both know if Trigg is really Sarah's or not.
What Palin has to control Bristol with is the fact that Bristol has not way to support herself ( no GED ) much less a baby, much less fight Levi for visitation/custody and NOW, THANKS TO MOM, LEVI IS NOT EVEN THERE TO BE BRISTOL'S FRIEND, BOY FRIEND, FUTURE HUBBY. PALIN HAS SUCCEEDED IN ISOLATING BRISTOL FROM LEVI AND HAS TOTAL CONTROL OVER BRISTOL.
Palin is throwing Bristol under the bus to punish her and will more than throw her under the bus if Bristol "threatens" Palin's narcissistic bubble of reality further.
Bristol need an attorney and physical protection and I mean that seriously. My mother ONLY became phsyically violent 2 days before I moved into my own apartment --she was going to "control" me no matter what before I "left her house."
Palin will be violent before this is over and those closest to her are the most at risk.

ReplyDeleteOne might think it a thrifty family gesture for Tripp to wear Trig's outgrown clothing (my kids all wore hand-me-downs, no problem), but for the fact that this is the Palin family we're talking about: One of the Bristolx2 bait-and-switch theories is that focusing attention on Tripp and his gestation takes everyone's attention off Trig, ditto. The similar names, wearing identical clothes for public appearances that will be photographed: GINO & Co. hope that the public will throw up their hands in confusion (or disgust) and just "believe" what we're told to believe. Just the opposite is occurring, for more and more of us.
ReplyDeleteI think Anon 8:38 is right about Sarah punishing Bristol, although maybe in a way I just thought of: What's weird is that we hear so much from the Palin camp about the big family they have to pitch in, and how Bristol's going to school, and hoping to start college classes this summer... We've heard otherwise from other people- no school, just staying at home. What if this is Sarah's doing, i.e.- "You got pregnant. You now have to stay home and take care of the baby, like every other teenage 'nobody' who gets pregnant." This would keep her under Sarah's roof- and control- as Bristol has no way of earning a living for her and her child(ren). The article on Todd in Esquire said he and Bristol were the primary caregivers for Trig; I bet nothing's changed since Tripp was born, only another baby added to the mix.
ReplyDeleteTeal- didn't notice the baby clothing thing. That is one of the pictures/event they keep showing and showing, so the clothing would probably be recognized. Wonder if that was done on purpose? It seems silly to think they'd just pulled something out of the closet to wear on tv, even for a baby- you KNOW GINO wouldn't do that!
Gotta love those New York teenagers, they are taught sexual education and proper methods of birth control and pregnancy prevention. But you have to wonder what the reaction of teens would be in a very red, conservative state like Utah or even Texas. The reception to Bristol's message may have been a little better. Just goes to show you that Palin and her fundie message does not play in the big city.
ReplyDeleteLook, my son is in 5th grade and he was taught how babies are made, and I plan on telling him repreatedly when he is old enough how not to get a girl pregnant and protect himself from STD's...it's not that hard. There is no excuse for any teenager to get pregnant in 2009.
Bristol preaching abstinence is even more of a joke when you factor in that she may be Trig's mom also.

TriPP is dressed in the same (or similar) overalls to the ones TriG is wearing in so many photos to further confuse casual observers (not us!) about the photos of TriG that suggestively are being snuck onto TV by the Johnstons. Also to make us think that if TriG wore them at 4 mos. at the RNC, then of course TriPP must be 4 mos. old to wear them now. Next she'll be a spokeperson for Benedryl.

All for naught. Bristol is to be pitied, she is deer in the headlights paralyzed against standing up to the Ice Queen. It is a shame that as her father Todd doesn't grow a pair and just get her away from the situation. SP is crashing; I truly think she will be hospitalized before this is over.

ReplyDeleteThose NY teens saw right through the hypocrisy and duplicity of Brstol's new advocacy for abstinence. The teens are dealing with the reality and truth of sexuality.
Bristol probably grew up in a family of conflicting messages from the parents. What were the adults modeling for their children? Did they have a secure and stable relationship with each other? Sarah, the control freak that she is, most likely played the game of being the parent, while Todd followed along. I imagine that Sarah ruled the roost with fluctuating mood swings. If Sarah was happy, by god everybody was happy--and of course, everyone was on guard when the mood changed.
Yes, I know Bristol is 18 and considered an adult; however, she is a product of her environmental childhood which left her floating adrift. Sarah manipulates people and situations with little conscience or consciousness. She must get her way regardless of the consequernces.
Bristol now has one child that we definitely know about, but will she be able to withstand and understand her own childhood in order to survive and develop as an individual, a mother, and as a loving, encouraging, and consistent role model for Tripp? Really hope so.
