President Barack Obama tapped federal appeals judge Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court on Tuesday, officials said, making her the first Hispanic in history picked to wear the robes of a justice.
If confirmed by the Senate, Sotomayor, 54, would succeed retiring Justice David Souter. Two officials described Obama's decision on condition of anonymity because no formal announcement had been made.
Administration officials say Sotomayor would bring more judicial experience to the Supreme Court than any justice confirmed in the past 70 years.
A formal announcement was expected at midmorning.
Wow a liberal, female, Hispanic Supreme Court pick! This is going to drive the conservatives up a freaking wall!
Batten down the hatches kids this is going to be a bumpy ride!
Update: It look like David Letterman is already having fun with this choice.
Where's Sarah?
ReplyDeleteWhy isn't she (and Meg Stapleton) blasting this nominee as an example of Obama's liberalism ignoring the wishes of hardworking Americans?
Especially when she is asking him for federal money for disaster relief- instead of doing it ourselves.
Or maybe she'll attack Obama for picking Sotomayor just because she's a female....
ReplyDelete....unlike McCain's careful selection- based upon qualifications only- of his VP nominee.
ps I bet Sotomayor won't go on a shopping spree, esp. with someone's else's dough, to get ready.
I heard the GOP (good ole pricks) party has threatened to "filabuster" about it...?
ReplyDeleteThe Party of Nooooooooooo!
It should be the party of "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!" Give them a rattle!!!
Mike Huckabee has already referred to the eminent jurist as "Maria," not Sonia, Sotomayor. Clearly he has no problem with Hispanic women in the workplace if they're cleaning his hotel room.
ReplyDeleteOnce the 'wingers learn that Judge Sotomayor is of Puerto Rican descent, it will be wall-to-wall "West Side Story." ("Maria," as we know, was played by the Russian-on-both-sides Natalie Wood.)
Sotomayor was named to the federal bench by the well-known socialist George H. W. Bush.
I don't really see the point of Letterman's skit. Is it just me?
ReplyDeleteRatfish, Nope, she already has plenty of professional attire. All she needs is new SCOTUS robes. And she won't need those until she is confirmed.
