WARNING! Positive Sarah Palin story is featured in this post! And no my blog has not been taken over by FOX News!

Gov. Sarah Palin is requesting a federal disaster declaration because of the flooding of the Yukon and Kuskokwim rivers this spring. Palin sent a letter to the federal government officially requesting the disaster declaration.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency sent preliminary damage assessment teams into the area last week to get a firsthand look at the flooding damage. The teams are working their way down the rivers, village by village.

Palin said hundreds of Alaskans have been displaced and many have lost their homes.

"The next step in a state's rebuilding process after a natural disaster is to request our federal government's assistance," the governor said in a statement Monday.

Good for Governor Palin for getting this request into the hands of the Federal government!

For only the second time in many months can I say that MY Governor is doing the job she was elected to do.

I cannot help but notice that in both instances it was in response to a flooding emergency. Does Sarah Palin only think that floods are disasters?

I am sorry that was a critical comment and I am trying to make this a positive post.

Good for you Governor Palin, for doing the minimum requirements of your job!

Alaskans "have a long history of independence and opposing many mandates from Washington, D.C.," Palin said in a press release.

"The next step in a state's rebuilding process after a natural disaster is to request our federal government's assistance," the governor said in a statement Monday.

Let's hope the FEMA workers keep their opinions to themselves.

  2. Oh, I doubt that she considers floods disasters. But someone who owns an interest in her probably was negatively impacted by the flooding. Their "disaster" became her disaster.

I am opposed to writing a "positive" article about Palin when all she has done is what she should have done weeks ago.

She ( finally ) did her job. THAT does not deserve praise unless she not only does her job but does it EXCEPTIONALLY WELL.

She FINALLY did her job. She did NOT do it exceptionally well as she is weeks late in doing it at all.

As well, she now finds it ok to take FEDERAL money-- even her base would condemn her for not calling these areas disaster sites !---when it is to HER advantage and makes her look good.

She is still harming multitudes of people by continuing to refuse FEDERAL money for energy needs.

GRYPHEN, YOUR ARE TRYING TO BE FAIR AND I ADMIRE THAT OF YOU BUT there is no reason to be "fair" when Palin has yet done anything that truly warrents "praise."

To put it more succinctly, she is lucky she still has "the job."

  5. Hundreds of people were affected by the flood.
Were not hundreds of people hungry and cold this winter?
Many outside Alaska contributed money and packages to help these people through the winter months.
Why weren't the flooding affected individuals treated to Franklin Grahmn?
Is there a different population affected by flooding? Perhaps more vocal, republicans?
It seems like she is still playing politics,
No to stimulus money, but Yes to Federal Disaster relief.
Tax money provides both. So why choose one over the other?

  6. Really! I don't know how anyone in rural Alaska can forgive Palin for ignoring the hungry and freezing western Alaska villagers since the middle of 2008 (when they and then-Commissioner Monegan first raised the spectre of privation because of the salmon harvest).
