But I DO want to point out the kind of person that her racially charged campaign style attracted, and wonder just how many hidden racists felt empowered by the kind of language that Sarah Palin used to describe President Obama back in 2008.

WHY DON'T WE SEE ONE WORD OF THIS IN ANY OF THE MEDIA?
Love him or hate him, we all remember how the press went to great lengths to find out every move that President Bush made … finally unable to come up with anything factual, so they created it! When their accusations were proven empty, they refused to retract one word of the fraud they perpetrated on the American people. Dan Rather lost his job over fraudulent documents, because common people like you & me reached out and ripped CBS to pieces.
They couldn't stand the loss of sponsors OR viewers! The same Media went to great lengths to scandalize & destroy Sarah Palin. She maintains a 91% approval rating among voters from all parties, thanks to the Internet and investigative journalists who don't work for the mainstream media.
NOW ------- The Supreme Court has scheduled a Conference for Dec 5th about Obama's U. S. Citizenship. STILL, not a word about any of this from the Media. If it were not for the Internet and talk radio, American citizens would become the servants of a dishonest & conspiratorial Media.
THINK ABOUT IT. IT DIDN'T USED TO BE THIS WAY! How much longer are we going to sit on our hands & say not a word? AND DON'T THINK THE MEDIA SIMPLY DOESN'T KNOW - THEY ARE GETTING POUNDED WITH EMAILS ABOUT IT!!! Obama could not get a simple security clearance with the information the government has on him ---- NOBODY COULD!
NOW he is privy to every top secret America has! What is going on??? WHERE ARE THE GOOD PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY - ARE YOU OUT THERE??? WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO SAVE THIS COUNTRY????
Clearly this guy is completely out of his mind.
And it is very interesting that the ONE politician that he felt an affinity for is Sarah Palin.
If this were an isolated example of the kind of people who are following Sarah Palin it may mean absolutely nothing, but based on comments I have seen here on this blog, at the ADN, and on various other blogs and websites, there are a LOT of people who love and support Sarah Palin who share views very similar to Mr. von Brunn.
Does that mean anything?
Update: Shepard Smith of Fox News talks about the hate mail he recieves from these fringe groups.
I really feel that this video helps to illustrate my point that there are a LOT of crazy people out there looking for somebody to lead them, and people like Sarah Palin, and Rush Limbaugh, and Eddie Burke here in Anchorage, serve to do just that.
The violence done by these crazy ass people should be an indication to those who fan these flames of hate that they have gone too far, and it falls to them to accept responsibility and to start calming these fanatics down before MORE innocent lives are taken. The Right Wing is always talking about being pro-life, well keeping their followers from committing murder seems to fall well within that definition.
Hi Gryphen. Proofreading FYI: There is a link to another blog under "Does that mean anything."
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting about this murderer-terrorist being a Sarah Palin defender. It is one example of the types of extremists who support Sarah Palin. We saw lots of footage of them at McCain/Palin rallies on the 2008 campaign trail (from St. Clairsville, OH, Bethlehem, PA, and Denver, CO, to name but a few). We see lots of their hateful remarks at Palin fan sites online. It is high time what we stand up against hate speech against ANYONE in this country.

ReplyDeleteThere's another blog which is carrying the shooter-murderer's posts praising Palin.
I'm so glad you are reminding people that these types were the very ones she delighted in whooping up during the election. I'll never in my life forget the broadcasts and YouTube's of some of her rallies and the "fringe" types she attracted.
ReplyDeleteBINGO GRYPHEN! Her remaining few followers consist of the very extreme fringe. One only has to go to c4p or teamsarah to see that this is true. Even Conservative Republicans are horrified at her complete ignorance. See Kathleen Parker's article/interview in Washington Post today - and Kathleen Parker TRIES to be nice!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/discussion/2009/06/10/DI2009061001111.html
Although it seems like forever, it has only been about 9 months since Palin "reared" her head and snapped into focus the most extreme elements of the right wing - bible thumping, gun toting, shove religion down your throat book-banning, anti-science, pro-choice, apocalyptic, sessesionist zealots...anti-gay, anti-muslim, anti-tolerance, it's all there.
ReplyDeletePalin is not soley responsible for all the crazies, the fact that "the right" is out of government along with the sloping economy and "end times" mentality creates the right climate for her politics of division. The group attracted to her is a loud but marginalized minority group that has an ongoing potential for violence.
Personally, I hope that the FBI is actively tracking Sarah Palin Fansites.
Some statement about hatred in the last 24 hours. In Anchorage, you have the Red Shirts, who, with a little more pushing could be just as hateful as that guy in Washington DC today. There is no room for such hatred in today's world; these people are dangerous!
ReplyDeleteAfter the gunman at the Holocaust museum today: Check out the video on Palinoscopy (http://palinoscopy.wordpress.com/). I have to give a big kudos to Shepard Smith on Fox News for calling out the extremists and talking about the hundreds of hate filled emails each day and how frightening they are. Welcome to the human race, Shepard. I don’t know how long you will remain working at Fox after this, but I can only think it would be a good thing for you to work elsewhere. I stopped watching Fox News in mid October and will never go back.
ReplyDeletePalin has been so over her head.
ReplyDeleteJust one more reason why that iceberg needs to hit the SS Palin...
ReplyDeleteJackie - I too would sign is as other than anonomous if I could figure it out...
for those who do not want to be anonymous - to ways:
ReplyDeletefirst of all, it says 'comment as' and then a drop down menu says "select profile' - click the menu and press name/URL and then you can put your name in.
IF that is confusing (it is actually easy, I promise - THEN: just post as anonymous and sign your name at the end (then we will know who you are!)
As penelope said, posting a comment here is not hard. If a profile choice confuses you, then it isn't the one you want. Go with name/url or anonymous (with name at end of comment as penelope suggested). With the name/url option you can use your real name or your internet name (I'm womanwithsardinecan, just like at mudflats). You don't need to fill in the url space.
ReplyDeleteI have seriously been in tears today because of this incident. Why do people hate me just because I have a Jewish heritage? It is really upsetting even though I know lots of anti semitism exists. It is REALLY on the rise and it comes from the far right nuts and from the far left too (sorry, but it does)-it relates to Israel - Palestinian conflict and many don't understand it from the Israeli side, only from the Palestinian side. It is difficult. Anyhow, today on twitter, I posted this same thing re this killer- that he was a big supporter of Palin. It was a retweet. One of her insane, nutjob followers wrote me the nastiest tweet I have ever gotten. It was incredibly nasty! I wrote him back and told him he had a real problem because the info about the man being a Palin supporter is all over the internet AND on this crazy man's website! It isn't of my own creation. I really did not need to get that.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I have always been suspicious of is why conservatives are so pro-Israel. I found out it has been an organized effort on their part to try to get the Jewish vote AND also they of course want to preserve Israel because of Jesus. But, they still feel I'll go to hell because I am not Christian, so that judgement is always there.
Why is there so much hatred! It feels so high in this country! Higher than any other time in my lifetime unless I am completely naive.....
And I do think Palin incited these KKK type kooks at her rallies. Of course they would flock to her. Not saying she condones this of course, but she did not admit she incited them.
She is known by the company she keeps. The fact that she does NOTHING to dissociate herself from the crazies speaks volumes. And I second Isabella's tip. You don't need an URL, just choose a username. I rarely post here while I am also logged into gmail, which automates things, but is frankly one step too many.
ReplyDeleteOh, and the reason comments don't show up immediately is that Gryphen has to moderate them first... you don't want him to have to hover over his e-mail 24-7, do you? He wouldn't be able to have a life, or find good things to post about, if he was constantly blogsitting.
It is the amazing the outrage on this blog over an abortion doctor that is killed. But do you see outrage over a man that walked into a museum full of children and took out a gun and openly started shooting? A man full of hate for every group? Why is it that people on these blogs have no pity for this man, yet when the doctor was killed last week, every Alaska blog posted about it and people were so upset. I find that very interesting. Are you all becoming immune to violence or are you so obsessed with Sarah Palin that you don't see what has happened today and how this is a serious string of events all around HATE.
ReplyDeleteDon'tcha know? The Right to Lifer's are only pro-life until you're born, then you're on your own baby!
ReplyDeleteAnd if you mess it up, they'll take you out in a heart beat with their death penalty - cause the bible tells them so!
Lisabeth...I sympathize with you. Although I am not Jewish, I take extreme offense to any and all racial hatred. There is no place for it in today's society. I know it doesn't make you feel better, but this psycho also hated Muslims, Blacks, Latinos, Asians, and Catholics...so he basically hated everyone except WASP's.
ReplyDeleteI do think the rhetoric from the right wing fringe (Sarah Palin, Billo, etc included in that) and Rush Limbbaugh is very dangerous. Just a few minutes before this incident happaened Rush was on the radio, spouting off some religious hatred toward Jews. How any of these idiots can say this type of speech does not fan the flames, I will never understand.
Anon @ 10:17
ReplyDeleteDo you always judge the level of outrage by the number of posts? I think that a lot of people are just worn out this week from the sheer volume of hate being spewed and acted out by right wing nutballs. I was sick to my stomach yesterday from this newest example of right wing domestic terrorism perpetrated by a crazy person that law enforcement KNEW was crazy. I felt even sicker when I saw the interview on Rachel, with the woman who works with an abortion group and fears for her life every day because law enforcement isn't doing enough to stop these people. Stop judging people because they are still sick to their stomachs about the hate in Anchorage yesterday, or that they are sick to their stomachs that Palin helps give sickos like the Braun nutball a helping hand with their hate. People deal with kind of hate in different ways, not always running to their nearest blog to let off steam. Sheesh.
BTW, anon, the TOPIC of this particular post was about Palin's connection to these nutballs who kill, not just about the nutball himself. The people you judged negatively for lack of properly expressed outrage over the incident were merely staying on topic. Get over it.
ReplyDeleteThe right threatened this during the election...If Obama wins...blah,blah, blah, he will take away our guns, we will have civil war, his birth cert. Now the problem is, the administration is let this bs go on for too long!
ReplyDeleteI admire PO trying to "reach across the aisle" but its not working, they perceive this as weakness and now are the "Party of no" No federal stim fund, no health care, no this or that, no Sonya! The have no respect. Call him TOTUS, gino says FEDS! Limpbass wants PO to fail, eye of newt, says he already has! DHS came out with a report a couple of months ago detailing this right wing extremism and GOPland went crazy! Why are we kissing their asses?? Homeland security should be going after all hate mongers, right down to Eddie smurke, GOP'rs who say no, override them, the FBI had info on Dr. Tillers killer? But did nothing? On RM lastnight abortion clinics are constantly harassed, the home of the EMPLOYEES are harassed! Why does law enforcement do nothing??? I got some stupid thing from the DCC about GINO's RSVP, very silly, why are they not concentrating on serious issues? The hatred from the right? The extremism? Why no organized campaign against it? I will not give any money to any of them until they "grow a pair"and also b/c of the FEC ruling on clothes. The right has undercover hate sites, I just found one yesterday, #tcot on twitter, like drudge report. We as progressives need to get organized, get homeland security to do their job and close down these hate mongers so we can get this country going again. Close down church's who mix religion with politics.
CLEAN HOUSE!!!!
I think we have to be careful when we speak, especially public officials, there is a tremendous amount of undiagnosed mental illness in this country and these people are everywhere just waiting for someone to say something to support their feelings of anger towards whatever and to do away with whomever they feel is against their delusional mind. Wht the sarah palins of the world do is like yelling fire in a public place, comments will incite riots among these people wth undiagnosed mental health problems...all of this is very dangerous and we need to be able to stop these irresponsible comments...

Sarah “Screw the Political Correctness” Palin, on the other hand, seemed right at home. She marched into those same crowds grinning and winking, and “Yoo betcha-ing” like she was onstage at the Miss Alaska pageant. While her supporters waved watermelon slices and stuffed monkeys, Palin talked about who the “real Americans” were, and who was “palling around with terrorists.” She refused to address the blatant racism of her fans, or address the obvious exploitation of Obama’s middle name, Hussein, and the implication she herself was making with her “terrorist” comments.
She was, after all, playing to the accurately-named Republican “base,” the same crowd to whom George Bush had sold his second presidential term by pandering to their darkest and most cowardly aspect. This time out it was fear of gay marriage and adoption, carefully tended fear of another 9/11, fear of more fallout from a war they still didn’t believe he’d lied about.
One can almost appreciate the horrible honesty of the racists among the McCain-Palin supporters who were able to admit what the others obfuscated: that they didn’t want a black man in the White House. Certain videos from their rallies are deeply disturbing. They showcase the seething racism of her most ardent followers.
conected to that wack job who shot tiller or not.You can bet sarah is as much a FAN of him as he is of her.
