How is a media whore supposed to make a living if she cannot have access to the media?

Sarah Palin is expected to make a visit next week to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in California, in what would be her first public appearance outside Alaska since resigning as governor, and the sponsors said on Wednesday the event will be closed to the media.

Palin, the self-described hockey mom turned politician, is slated as “our expected guest” on Aug. 8 for a 50th anniversary gala hosted by the Simi Valley Republican Women, Federated, a nonprofit group of GOP volunteers, according to an e-mail from the group’s president Peggy Sadler. An accompanying notice states bluntly: “No press or other media allowed.”

I have to wonder if this is Palin's idea or the Simi Vally Republican Women?

I can understand Palin not wanting to take any questions from the press but she certainly seems to want as much camera time as possible. I am pretty sure that if she does not get photographed every two to three days her skin begins to wither and slide off her bones without the rejuvenating affects of the television cameras.

That is a scientific fact, which just so happens to be devoid of any scientific facts. They just get in the way anyhow.

Why would our ex-governor waste her time on any event that did not get national coverage anyway?

In a reminder of her often-testy relations with the media, she took a parting shot at the press during her farewell address in Fairbanks, Alaska, on Sunday, saying: “Democracy depends on you. That’s why our troops are willing to die for you. So how about in honor of the American soldier you quit making things up?”

Okay, well maybe. But doesn't she know that if she does not actually say anything in front of the press that they have no choice but to "make things up"? I mean empty spaces on a newspaper's "What's happening in Palin-town this week" section certainly don't help sell any papers now do they?

And that just means that all of our troops will be dying for nothing now doesn't it? Hey this Palin-logic thing is kind of fun!

  1. I think the "no press" rule is the Repub Women's. We'll probably get red carpet arrival shots, but we'll miss the treat of hearing that screechy voice spewing hate and venom--assuming of course Palin shows up and doesn't cancel at the last minute. She's also scheduled for that Voter Values thing in DC this fall, but that's it as far as I know. According to reports, the big conservative radio syndicator Clear Channel said "no thanks" to inquiries about signing her up for a radio show. Anyone hear what happened with Pox News?

I'm curious: has anyone actually come up with examples of what the media supposedly "made up" about her (apart from the National Enquirer, which isn't exactly MSM)? I mean, they reported the "rumors" about Bristol and Trig and the "rumors" about the "federal investigation," and then there's the quote from her hair dresser saying that Palin's hair was thinning. But seriously? Is she referring to the wardrobe that she claims she didn't buy but somehow still appeared in the Republicans' financial disclosure statements? The boo-boo about Africa being a country? I frankly wish the media would simply quit talking about her, full stop.

  2. Oh yeah, if the media stops covering her, she will weep bitter, salty tears. No ka-ching then!

  3. It's the Market Invisible Hand. If I say you can't have it, then you want it more. If you want it more, the price goes up. Scarcity of $carah makes $arah more valuable. Excess of $arah made David Letterman more valuable. The Invisible Hand.

  4. Speaking of scientific facts that aren't really scientific, I'm amused by the increasing number of polls over "there" which seem to show INCREASING support for Sarah Palin now that she's quit halfway+ through her term...er, resigned for a "higher calling".

Based, no doubt, on the fantasy that Palin will somehow eventually learn how to appeal to folks outside a group of people who evidently not only speak in tongues like Palin herself, but actually understand Babel-speak.

Has anyone taken AKM's transcription of the Sunday Palin-Babel and put it through Babelfish and back out again? I wonder if it would read exactly the same both times...

  5. I think the Republican women at the Reagan Library might be in for a big disappointment.
Meg and Chuck Heath both said (after Fairbanks picnic) that the Aug. 8th even is NOT confirmed and that Sarah has thousands of invitations to "consider." IF she does show, only her drooling fan with a video cam (John Zeigler) is allowed to film it. Here is the funniest thing I have seen re this POSSIBLE event (from the sea of pee, paraphrasing): She will attend, but she has to be very secretive about her plans because "the libs want to do harm to her person."
NEVER have I seen ANYONE on ANY "liberal" site threaten her physically - NEVER. Projection much c of pee'ers?

    Gryphen,
As well as the media coverage that she " BEGS " for if she doesn't have any money to promote, whatever the message is, she has no Power.
I hope some Alaskans can file a suit to shut down that AFT Grifter Fund as quickly as possible. Using Alaska's name to steal/beg from people is just wrong. It's a smear on Alaska.

I posted this over on AKM's open thread as well about the SarahPac website. All the verbiage under the ' About Sarah' section describes her a " GOVERNOR Palin". She is NOT and she has disgraced that title and does not deserve the respect or the recognition of it.Meg, who runs SaraPac should not be allowed to use the title as part of their fund-raising.How would we make them change it.. who do you call?
Or maybe it deserves a ' snarky little story ' here on your blog pointing out what they are doing. She is NOT " GOVERNOR " Palin. No respect should be given.

  7. Gryphen: Is this now confirmed? Stapletongue said at one point that it was not confirmed.

Is this another "bait and switch" from $arah?

  9. I'm surprised, in that Sunday statement, she didn't suggest that everytime a story is made up "about her", a soldier is shot. I guess that'll be the next time out.
She'such a holographic ice cream cone,
all appearance, no substance. Her only accomplishment, as of late, has been to add
a new facet to William Shatner's career.

The Ronald Reagan Crowd lists her as an "expected guest," meaning that Sarah might pull another one of her famous switcheroo's again. At $100.(members)$150 (non members) admission, maybe they haven't sold enough tickets to make it worth $arah's time.

As for No Media, I am still laughing about that. If I lived in the area and was a serious reporter or blogger who couldn't resist attending a No Media event, it would be worth the admission just to show up.

Warning to $arah's friends who regularly patrol this website: There are video cameras small enough to be disguised as a pen in a jacket pocket. Ditto for tape recorders. Do you really want to put your loyal members through airport style security just to attend a meeting? Do you think that you can take away everyone's cell phone, purse, blackberry, whatnot? I would see it as waving the red flag in front of the bull, daring a reporter to crash the event.

And, we all have to wonder why someone who was twittering away at a furious speed suddenly was attacked by hand-cramps and writers block. I think that someone is having very serious withdrawl problems; it's hard to leave the spotlight when you require the nourishment of attention.

$arah, as usual, has not confirmed she will attend.

We all know why she is going, its for the money! I bet she rakes in between 50 to 100K for this shindig. I remember reading that they were expecting up to 900 people paying between 100-150 dollars per ticket.

She is in rehab. They are hoping she will be ready for release by the August date and a nice chummy event with repub editing is perfect.

Gods, her ego never fails to astound me.

Their "expected guest". Yes, she may be jetting off with Rupert, guess they will have to just wait and see. How is she expected to save the GOP if she doesn't get in front of the camera and "progress their agenda"?

  17. I keep expecting to hear that Sarah's family and friends got together to do an intervention, and after Sunday's word explosion, they carted her off to a nice quiet rest home where she could get hold of no more 'diet pills' for a while.

What else explains the eerie quiet?

she is recovering from plastic surgery. or so some people say.

she can't twitter all groggy on pain killers. give the bitter quitter a break!

From what I remember reading, only members ($100) and invited non-members ($150) are attending.

It would be funny if a gaggle of "tiny, talented Hollywood starlets" showed up with anti-Palin signs.

'I have never seen ANYone on ANY liberal website threaten her physically'

That is correct, but that also goes hand-in hand with the time when she claimed something like that during the McCain campaign, (re. the Toad involvement with the AIP, I believe) and her own people shut her down on her exagerated claims...

I'm just as happy with having Ms. Palin not in front of the cameras, not speaking and not on my front page news section. It has been a really nice break and I'm not ready for it to end yet.

Although she might be having withdrawals, I'm Not!

Shatner is keeping me well amused. Laughter is always the best medicine. I think he has enough material to go for a long time. If he needs new stuff, then she can speak.

"the libs want to do harm to her person."

That is too funny. It's the old repub women who despise her, including the ones with the money to spend $100 to see her act. Haven't they done any focus groups on the west coast? Not the kind that say she has an 80% favorable rating. Her Babel-spooks don't hang with the old or political money. Think of Nancy Reagan when she all but vomited as she endorsed McCain for the good of the GOP. The Young Republicans can get behind Palin and they would be there, too. I think her handlers are waiting to see how many tickets are sold. Palin should have joined a Benny Hinn tent revival if she wants numbers. Old repub women are not her best choice for a coming out party unless they can get the right wing radio nuts and Young Republicans to pump it up.

The Library is not a big security problem, I don't think any group could do anymore then a civil protest. A lone nut would be easily seen. Simi Valley is the smaller more anal version of Orange County.. The Library is more rural. She could helicopter in. What do they think could happen? It would be an inside job. Her paranoia is serious and has nothing to do with reality.

I hope they have Jason Jones do one of his in the area news reports, if she makes it to the cloistered Simi Valley farce. Has anyone asked Ron if Nancy is planning on attending?

For people who hate Palin, you sure spend a lot of time obsessing on her.

and btw, didn't sara burnhard say Palin would have her brothers rape Palin when she came to NY? That sounds like harm to me.

  28. who is sara burnhard ? why would palin have her brothers rape palin ? i don't even believe palin would say that.

there are many ways to like people. palin is a comic rock star. why do you think the repubicans want her ? she is also appreciated for her comic gifts here. when she is mean or lies, that is not appreciated.

@Anon9:17. You clearly don't understand how blogs work. Posting negative comments about someone on a blog is not a sign of obsession. It is a 21st century act of social communication. Snark is the new wit (see Wonkette)
