(Soon to be ex) Governor Sarah hoped that resigning during the 4th of July holiday would somehow bury the story. Wrong again Caribou Barbie!

Why? Why? WHY? Comes the cry of Sarah supporters.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Issues forth from every other American. That plus "What took you so long?"

But even those of us who are grateful that Sarah has finally decided to release us from the bondage of reporting on her everyday would like to know "why now? After all bloggers are a curious lot.

Oh we have theories.

Last night over at Shannyn Moore's house we let them fly.

"I don't think it is the house."

"But it could be the house."

" I heard that she does not want to have to divulge how much her book deal is worth and would have had to as Governor."

"Oooh that is an idea."

"Maybe it is Levi's upcoming book?"

"Perhaps"

The ideas flew fast and furious. There seemed an endless number of possible criminal or ethical problems that could be the one that snapped the back of Sarah's camel, but we simply could not be sure which one was the culprit.

(By the way WE know how the whole FBI story started and how it got out there. It was actually an inside joke that got out of hand and then got blamed on Shannyn Moore simply because she was the most public face of the Alaska blogging community. I will say this again, the real story is about an investigation that could have destroyed Palin's career, and the rumor has been that it is the IRS. But once again THAT is the "rumor".)

But hey WE are not the only ones trying to get to the bottom of this story:

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

Geoffery Dunn believes it was the bloggers that finally brought her down:

My sources in Wasilla tell me that Palin's father, Chuck Heath, has spoken repeatedly about the "liberal press" and dreaded "bloggers" taking their toll on his daughter. I recently discovered an early, telling email by Palin complaining to her pal Meg Stapleton about something a blogger had written in the Anchorage Daily News and how significantly it bothered her -- "kind of makes my stomach turn over," she wrote. Palin can dish, but she can't take it. She's got a terribly thin skin.

The Wall Street Journal also sent a reporter up here to ferret out the truth.

Bloggers stepped up their scrutiny. Ms. Biegel filed an ethics complaint accusing the governor of using her position for personal gain when she wore a jacket with the name Team Arctic, a logo of Arctic Cat Inc., at Alaska's Iron Dog snow-machine race in February. Bloggers alleged that Gov. Palin's husband, Todd, was being paid by Arctic Cat. A lawyer for Ms. Palin said her husband wasn't paid. A state investigator who dismissed the complaint said most jackets worn by Alaskans carry company logos.

In recent weeks, bloggers began posting rumors of a supposed federal investigation into Gov. Palin's affairs. "There's something big...something really big that's headed her way; the iceberg that's headed for the S.S. Palin," a blog called The Mudflats suggested.

(A little behind the scenes info for you. This reporter, Jim Carlton, met with AKM, Shannyn, and myself and since I gave him my real name I kind of thought he would out me in the article. But he didn't. So thank you Mr. Carlton.)

Hell even Karl Rove can't figure out what Sarah Palin is thinking:

"The media, if she wants to run for president, is going to be following her for the next 3½ years," said Rove, who called the move unclear and therefore a potentially harmful strategy for a politician. "Effective strategies in politics are ones that are so clear and obvious that people can grasp. ... It's not clear what she's doing and why."

So it comes as no surprise to anybody who has been following the Governor all of these many months that her attempt to hide this story by holding her hastily called press conference at teh start of a long holiday weekend has blown up in her face. But even WE were surprised that she would compound her problem by attacking a local blogger and ensuring that the blogging community would keep this story alive well into the following week.

Unless THAT is what she wanted all along. Hmmm, could she actually be just a little smarter then we gave her credit for being? Nah!

    I applaud you, Shannyn Moore.

Re: Palin. I have no idea what her big fat problemo is, but her brand is tarnished now. Quitting sealed the deal. If nothing is wrong, why quit?
She can never rehab her image now.

So the same 7% can pal around together as violent racists and wreckers of the planet, and support Palin, in the "name of Jesus."

Maybe someone will send them all a fake TWEET and tell them where to rendez-vous to support Sarah, and we can get all of them on film. Maybe another comedian will make a joke or something. They are such a national disgrace. (Yes, Palinbots, as an American, I am against you. To me, you are domestic terrorists.)

So why isn't Van Flein willing to provide details on the house:

    1. Who were Todd's buddies?
    2. How much did it cost (and how much was borrowed)?
    3. Recipts on building materials, especially the glass railings that match those in the sports center?

Or maybe the Palins got a "discount" on those too, also.

  3. Hey - to those who think Palin is done - this from Taylor Marsh on HuffPost today:

"In the 2008 election season, nobody was tougher on Palin than I was and for good reason. She was unprepared, ill-equipped and uninformed on all foreign policy issues, making a mockery of women who know what they're doing but don't have her other gifts, like the "it" political factor, which Palin has in abundance that draws people to a person regardless of it being earned. Sarah's now got another chance. She has to sense the millions of people behind her, because she saw it in action during the '08 election."

His point is that male politicians get second chances all the time, and there's no reason someone of her charisma won't too.

  4. A bit off topic, but as I was doing my dishes this morning my brain turned to the conundrum that is Palin. What popped into my head is that all of the articles I have read in the last few months about this woman, what struck me as odd is how we never hear from the women in her life.

This weekend is a good example we have heard from her Dad (repeatedly), her brother, her father in law, her attorney. I don't really count her attorney or Meg Stapleton as they are paid to comment and agree with Sarah, but never do we hear from her Mother, Mother in law, Sister or even her friends. I remember when she was announced as McCains running mate Good Morning America had on her friends, I think there were 6 of them and they were called the "Elite 6" by people in the inner circle.

As I keep thinking about this I find it so strange. I know that her religion is a bit whacky and it is based on a patriarchal system, but in a situation like this I would think these women have an opinion or comment about their relative and friend.

I know as a Mother if it were my child and I really thought that she was being unfairly attacked I would speak out. Period. There would be no hesitation or hiding in the background. Same if it were my best friend. This goes both ways. I know my best friend would have something to say.

It seems to me if you really want to know a woman you turn to the women who surround her. Believe me they know.

If the personnel board LET HER OFF so she could keep the millions from her bogus "trust fund" this is a serious problem. I hope that the personnel fund and Sarah are still investigated. I don't think they would have the legal right to just let her way away like that.

I know I can count on the bloggers and those in Alaska to do the right thing here. Do not let her get away with this if it turns out to be true.

She takes millions from her own supporters and then leaves them?

AGAIN A RUMOUR, SO SUE ME

  6. Whatever caused her to have this extreme reaction (resignation), happened on 1 July. Before that she was tweeting away about working with Dan Sullivan (1 July 10:59am) by that evening she was resigning (met with Parnell evening 1 July). On 2 July, family members are being recalled and on 3 July she resigns.

So it happened, the decision was quick, there wasn't time to "consult" with anyone, except maybe calling Todd or her lawyer, who knows.

That is the time frame to look at for what was going on. Anyone see her that evening to know what her demeanor was? Where any ethic meetings being held that morning? Questions, Questions.

Will any of it ever come out or will the state, the country and the world, always wonder, what the latest challenge was that couldn't be met.

For Palin to run for any government office her resume will always be that she has quit at everything she has tried to do, going back to before she was mayor and sat on the Wasilla council, she has Always resigned before her term was up.

What is the follow-up decision from APOC about the Artic Cat disclosures on the Palin's financial disclosure forms? As I recall, they were to investigate and determine if the financial disclosure is "proprietary" as the Palin's claim.

  8. Dishing it out and having thin skin are symptoms of a personality disorder. She thinks she is special. No one is suppose to say anything negative about her or she will retaliate. Now she sees herself as a victim, but is unable to see the harm she did to others.

  9. If Sarah was so bothered by the bloggers, why did she not consult Rove or Kristol or any of the other republicans that supported her?
She chose to go it alone and did a horrible job at it.
Sarah Palin is not ready for prime time politics. She is a liar, a whiner and now a quitter. It was demonstrated very early in her campaign the type of person she really is, ruthless, calculating and really a lazy, not so intelligent self indulgent whiner.
    She is not a politician.
I could really really see her a one of those tv preachers in the "pay for your religion by sending me donations" style.
This may be her higher calling

    The Palin Principle

The Peter Principle says people rise to the level of their own incompetence.

The Palin Principle says that with pandering and posturing, pretty pageant people can rise BEYOND the level of their own incompetence.

The Van Flame (excuse me, Flein) letter

"several unscrupulous people have asserted false and defamatory allegations..." So, asserting that Shannyn Moore has no scruples is somehow not defamatory? Mr. Van Flame sounds as if he has been using the Stapleton Style Guide.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH MSM THAT THEY DON'T SEE IT!!

My new theory about her resignation:

She's too arrogant to think housegate could take her down, even if the IRS is looking into it. But it could be that her advisors warned her that the emails Celtic Diva payed for and will be releasing are going to be a HUGE political embarrassment. Yeah, her minions in the Personnel Board can find her innocent of all wrongdoing, but the press are going to have a field day. Hence, the barely submerged fury (not nervousness) we see, and all the angry swipes at bloggers and the press. She's looking at the next opinion poll putting her state popularity numbers in the toilet, which will hurt her chances in 2012.

So, she thinks, "I don't need Alaska with all its uncooperative mean legislators. I have an adoring base in the Lower 48 who cheer me and send me money. This has been a good stepping stone but now it's time to move on to bigger and better things. I'll announce I'm resigning for "the good of Alaska" and everyone will believe me, because everyone always believes me, and I'll whine about the press and the bloggers being mean to me, and they'll go, Oh, poor Sarah. What a hero."

So she resigns. She doesn't say she's quitting to run for president, because that would look kind of sleazy. She doesn't say she's quitting for the sake of her family, because she has no intention of getting out of politics. She says she's doing it to save Alaska, and on Sunday she tweets about how her nasty critics are putting the worst possible spin on what she's done.

She thinks she can come out of this smelling like a rose. It's our job to make sure the shit sticks.

    Midnight

Ok Gryphen, try this one on for size: I think Palin resigning now is tied to the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend. Investments are in the tank and the price of oil has been pretty low this year. It's likely that the fund dividend for 2009 is going to turn out to be much lower than 2008. I think Palin realizes the fund payout will be low, and is bailing before everyone else figures it out. She doesn't want to be the one to have to break the bad news, expecially now that the native people are pissed off at her. (rightly so) Once such an announcement is made, her ratings would go through the floor. Easier to skedaddle, write her book. She may have thought the Republican Party would jump at the chance to send her out as their campaign goddess. Based on their reaction so far, I don't think there's many candidates, other than in the deep south who would want a quitter stumping for them.

I know today she is going to have guest on so maybe we will learn more. Also, wonder why Mitchell didn't interview S. Moore so she could have given her statement that way. Hmmmmmm??? But, maybe some one told Mitchell something that was going to be breaking in Ak. and it didn't go as she was told and Mitchell may be very very pissed off. If true, wonder who that might have been.

Here's the deal (from me, a woman's point of view)
A majority of men gloss over things.. as far as intuitiveness.. it is rare to see to any lengthy degree.. sorry guys! But hello.. like men are from mars crazy books
I have a son and a husband.. feelings and emotions.. they just don't waste valuable energy on.. Ignorance is Bliss (I wish I had it) .. just focus on what is in front of them.. the hour before them.. anything else.. is waste of energy.. us Women though.. we "know"
Like CATS! So many people claim to be a cat person ..but they have the meanest cats ever.. because Cats respond to how they are treated.. they stare at you .. they know.. (I have 4 crazy fur balls I love them)

    Here is the deal
The Elite 6.. her work out buddies.. all seemed to "roll their eyes" when talking about her.. mm hmmm
One revealed S.P. is afraid of cats.. err doesn't like them
I'm sure she went up to her friends cat and was like HI KITTY!! PET PET.. noooo
Cats want to first stiff a stranger's finger.. and then eye ball you .. you PET them on THEIR terms

Just saying.. only having men give opinions or care about you means she just puts out a front .. the real her is hidden.. actually quite sad.
NOT ragging on working moms.. at all! But going to work 3 days after giving birth (well hrrmm) to Trig? Why? I was so enmeshed in my son.. I didn't want to leave him for an hour.. Well.. she had to "give" with a baby.. she doesn't like having to "give"
She likes to "get" .. why men.. They don't drain her or ask questions or second guess her or raise an eyebrow .. they take her at face value..
Great for a politician .. but one with a family? and one that preaches Jesus and all that?
Shes a true nutcase I am sorry

Could be RIGHT, but for different reason that you suggest in your follow-up statements. I do not have the time or resources to address this RUMOR (out there since Sept. 2008) about Palin and her friend Debbie Richter and how they seem to have "lost" accounting of this 35 Billion dollar fund - due to computer errors?
"Debbie Richter was Palin’s campaign treasurer. Richter was awarded a job as the Director of the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend Division for her service. The State of Alaska gives its citizens “free money” checks every year out of this fund. This “free money” comes from oil royalties collected and investments. The Fund is currently worth $35 billion.
Under Sarah and Debbie’s leadership in 2006, all Permanent Fund claims from residents (you have to make a claim for your check) were lost in a computer data entry failure.

Audrey at Palin's Deceptions has a long list of events where Sarah was operating business as usual until just a day or two before her announcement. It's not a decision made some time ago if Todd has to leave fishing and suddenly fly in. Even family members were taken by surprise and couldn't show up for the announcement. So the big question is: what comes up suddenly to cause such panic?

If Sarah had been planning a book or speech tour, been offered some big time job, there wouldn't need to be a rush to make the announcement. And, the garbled nature of the speech, her rapid nervous breathy delivery makes me think that it was thrown together with little thought or time involved.

In addition to Housegate, there might be something in the emails that Linda is about to read, or something to do with her legal defense fund or PAC money. I like the idea that Arctic Cat was audited by the IRS and it's coming home to roost. These are all speculation based on rumors, so no lawsuits please!

They could have put out the Housegate leaks because that is where they felt protected and they want bloggers to focus on that and not what concerns them. Housegate could be an intentional decoy.

My opinion is that everything with Sarah Palin is personal. Everything. She appears to have very few personal boundaries, which indicates she grew up with weak personal boundaries, as well.

If we really want to find out what precipitated her resignation, we should look at what is threatening to her personally. Why didn't Bristol and Willow attend their mother's resignation speech? This is such an important matter that Todd had to fly in, sacrificing a precious few available days for commercial fishing, but Bristol and Willow were not "commanded" to be there? Was there a danger of either of the girls making revelatory announcements and therefore not obeying their mother's wishes? Was Sarah Palin absolutely infuriated with her lack of control over her daughters and some perceived possible "disrespect" on their parts because they now have opinions of their own?

I, for one, have no answers. But like many, I have oodles of questions.

  42. One must love how well Palins lawyer did in throwing suspicion off Palin with the FBI release. I'd never heard anything, other than people Wishing the FBI would investigate her and well, who knows maybe they were, kind of thing.

The only thing that Gryphen and the other blogs were speculating on was a possible fraud/embezzlement investigation, which Palins lawyer, never once mentioned.
I'd say a good case of misdirection.

After some of the lawyers over at mudflats went over the statements made by the lawyer, there was a good laugh in how exactly he left himself on "out" on quite a few possible issues. Slick dude.

As he has now stated, there is no plans to sue, and the letter was never meant to actually plan to sue anyone, it is a very bad attempt to try to intimidate not only the local bloggers but the MSM, which has had the exact opposite effect.

Lawyers have agreed, Palin has no case against anyone for defamation and her lawyer knows it.

I think an important question that's usually overlooked in the speculation over her resignation is: who benefits? I've got to think that it's the money wing of the GOP; they certainly know they're done as a viable party unless they wrest control back from the nativist, christofascist wing. If that's the direction to look, we may never know the truth; destroying her politically would be sufficient, they wouldn't need to make public what they've got on her. And they might well have gone with both the carrot and the stick, and promised her a lot of wingnut welfare.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The question that's not asked often enough in all the speculation about Palin's resignation is: who benefits? I can't come up with a better answer than the money wing of the GOP. They know they're going the way of the Whigs unless they wrest control of the party back from the nativist, christofascist element that's currently in charge. If they're behind the resignation we'll probably never know what they've got on her that was big enough to cause her to resign: destroying her politically would be enough, they don't need the rest of us to know how they did it. And, to keep her from fighting back, they're probably offered her a lifetime of wingnut welfare. This isn't even a rumor, just a guess, but I just can't come up with any other scenarios that fit the facts as well. From her perspective, almost any scandal is better fought from the governors desk; and no one invstigating her in an official capacity is likely to take the risk of attempting to push her out.

I think she resigned because she's lazy. She doesn't want to do the work of governing, which is fairly pedestrian. And, she can make a whole lot more money outside the Guv's office, and not worry about ethics. My only concern is that people wrote off Richard Nixon one time and he rose again to become POTUS. Please God, don't let that happen again.

We still have to be vigilant about "Bailin'Palin" - as one poster said: Do not let her get any of the benefits that governors usually get once they retire - she does NOT deserve the free health insurance, she does NOT deserve the government pension, and she does NOT deserve all the money her P-Nutters have collected for her.
She DOES deserve a padded room in a special wing of a high security prison. (Maybe the one she helped getting started earlier this/last month?)

  50. anne s., I hate to be the one to break this news to you because I'm a man, but if you were your cat's size your cat would play with you until you were nearly dead, then it would kill you when it tired of it's fun, and then it would eat part of you.

You know nothing about cats dear, and even less about men.

  51. Richard Nixon was a genius compared to Sarah Palin; and even HE didn't get away with his shenanigans.

Sarah Palin would need crutches propping her up every step of the way to a Presidential election. She's not going to get it.

And as we've seen, her Watergate is about ready to blow wide open. She doesn't just have sleazily-dismissed ethics complaints; she has a whole series of -Gates.

Another ethics complaint filed and it seems no wiggle room. See Mudflats blog.

A Guy on Rachel Maddow show said that after reading and listening to Palin's speech several times, she seems to be rebutting something not yet unknown.

Wonder if it's the new ethics complaint...or maybe something else.

... And here comes yet another ethics complaint, this one regarding the per diem. Someone please tell me that with more of the nation watching, the Personnel Board won't let her get away with this one, too?

When Palin gave her resignation speech I was actually surprised that she mentioned "Dairygate" as if laying the groundwork for her conservative base to stand behind her.( for taking the dairy back from Government) So I think that maybe Housegate was a red herring and there is something else looming. They have had since September to make special deals, clean up paper work, etc with their "buddies" who built there home. I don't think it would be so easy to cover up or pay up things to have Dairygate look legit.

She is higher than a kite at that speech!!!
Hyperventalating and gasping for air...some runner! Something Huge caused her to hastily call a pressor on Fri even dud didn't know or megamouth ahead of time.
She's on borrowed time mentally and psyically. I wouldn't be surprised to hear she is hospitalized b/c of "stress" in order to get out of the impending crash of the iceberg.
But yeah she might need rehab to get off the "red bull" LMAO!!
    Suck it up buttercup!
    Sue me!!!!

  58. I don't know why she's doing this, but come 7/26 SP will no longer control Alaska...which means that some people won't be intimidated by her anymore.

Levi could easily come clean now and prove Trig's parentage, and God knows what else. (BTW, I'm wondering if Mercedes is actually the mother and Track the father. It seems odd to me for her to call SP "MommyInLaw" otherwise. But I'm getting off track.)

Her oldest daughters both have reasons to throw Mommy dearest under a bus, though Willow is a bit vulnerable being 15 (NOT 14) and all. And Bristol seems to have inherited all her mother's nastiness, which means that she is not a person to be messed with. Also.

And there could be all sorts of sh*t out of left, right, and center field.

My point is, I think SP has opened the floodgates on herself. Whatever drove her impulsive decision to resign will be nothing compared to what's going to be released once she is gone. She's gonna regret resigning, if she doesn't already. She clearly did NOT think this through...its just like an impulse buy: no thought ahead of time, with resigner's remorse later.

  59. Verbose, From an outsider's POV with nothing in this horserace for pres in 2012, I have to wonder whether or not this is going to play in Palin's favour. That is, how is it going to play with the middle of the roadies? It all depends a lot on whether Obama can salvage anything of the economy of your country. If he doesn't before the beginning of 2012 then any opposition such as Palin is going to be hot. For example: Look at how Bush cruised to victory in his second term even after it was plain to anyone with any sense at all that he was a complete dunce of a politician.

Americans are just politically immature and proof of that is that Palin was ever elected. How could they have ever found anybody any worse than her?

There is little doubt that Palin will go for it in 2012 and I don't think her chances have been diminished one bit by this. Her chances can only be diminished by Americans beginning to deal in real terms with their politicians and seeing what a stupid person Palin really is. Dog almighty girl, pretty faces will not save your sinking economy and neither will all this combatitive politics.
