Is it possible that Sean Parnell will be a much more effective Governor than Sarah Palin? Yes I realize that she set the bar pretty low.

Governor Sean Parnell today sought to secure federal disaster relief for Yukon River residents. Parnell urged the U.S. Secretary of Commerce to declare a fishery disaster due to poor returns of chinook salmon on the Yukon River.

“I trust Secretary Locke will recognize the severity of the situation on the Yukon and declare a fishery disaster,” Governor Parnell said. “I look forward to working with federal agencies and Alaska’s congressional delegation to secure disaster relief assistance for this region.”

The Magnuson-Stevens Act authorizes various forms of federal assistance through the National Marine Fisheries Service when the Secretary of Commerce determines there is a commercial fishery failure due to a fishery resource disaster.

State analysis indicates that the decline in the Yukon chinook fishery meets the standards in federal law as well as National Marine Fisheries Service policy for disaster declarations and criteria.

I have not known exactly what to make of our new Governor up till this point. But I have to say this is a good start.

  1. He is professional at least and looks out for people as he should be. Sarah was unprofessional to say the least. As far as watching out for people, she sure likes her fans and positive attention and pageant walking before them.

He sounds positive about the federal government which is nice for a change. Sarah was more than negative about them. Her anti-government clues came through loud and clear!! There are many examples (video, written word) of her disregard for the "Feds." If she ever runs for president, and I pray she doesn't, there is so much evidence to support her affiliation to the AIP.

Even if Parnell is conservative and belongs to a Dominionist church, (read Theopalinism blog) he's professional and seems positive and sincere. Those are big improvements compared to $carah, Vain & Simple, the government bashing narcissistic secessionist.

  2. and I have confidence in my ex-gov of Washington the State --- a salmon state, too! --- , Gary Locke, that he will do the right thing (wow, Alaska, I am still flabbergasted on the horror that you all have unleashed on the rest of US ... )

Good for Parnell. It seems that his administration interprets what qualifies for disaster relief differently than the Palin administration.

Yes - a good sign - at least he is engaged and proactive. I can handle his conservatism as long as he demonstrates that he serves ALL the people.

I think I know why Parnell went with urging this Declaration of Disaster:

He doesn't know how to bake cookies!!!

  6. I sincerely hope that he means to TAKE the office of Governor and clean up some of the freaking mess left behind by that woman. Until he makes some changes to positions she appointed, I doubt he will have any success.

It seems that Parnell actually reads and got the open letter from Anonymous Bloggers to John Moller, the rural advisor MIA...did he quit?

  8. Good on Parnell! But will the MSM or even the AK newspapers print this story - OR will they choose to print stories on the vile, hate-spewing exGINO's lunatic rant re Health Care bill? TG Parnell does not seem the type to do ANYTHING, ANYTHING AT ALL to gain attention.

  11. For a minute there, I thought the new Guv might be seeking disaster relief from the Palin regime era. She was a disaster!

  12. I had E-Mailed Former Gov.Palin,Gov Parnell and then John Moller who answered my E.Mail in minute's and assured me that he was doing whatever he could for rural Alaskan's.Short and long term solutions.Could it be that former Gov.Palin was holding him back? It kind of makes sense ? I guess it's wait and see.

  13. Yay Parnell, and he did it without his kids standing in front of him. Proof that Alaska CAN make change and there ARE good people that care. (Knew that all along).

SP's latest craziness is going to turn off a lot of people. The ignorant will believe anything anyway.

Well, at this point, as long as Parnell doesn't wink, blink and nod through his press conferences and sidestep questions, he's light years ahead of the Quitta from Wasilla.

Interesting how Parnell hasn't pushed his children out front and center and used them for political gain? Refreshing, isn't it?

While it may be a step in the right direction, and I am willing to give him a "good job" on this situation, one good decision does not a good Governor make.

I am going to wait and see how he operates and how closely he runs things like Palin did. Let's just say that Palin had everyone fooled at first also too, so I'm skeptical!
