Newt Gingrich offers six steps to help Sarah Palin with her comeback.

1. Write a book. Palin is already set to do that, which Gingrich applauds. A book, he said, helps a politician lay out his or her philosophy and experiences in their own unhurried words. It also helps score TV time, which in turn helps sell books, he added. (Go ahead Sarah write a book. And then when Levi writes his book, we can do a side by side comparison. That should be fun, don't you think?)

2. Land a regular commentator slot on television. It’s a sure way for an outsider to stay inside the national dialogue and in touch with the incumbents, activists and strategists who can help launch a comeback. (Yes get out in front of the cameras as often as possible so that the people who have not been seduced by your "hockey mother gone rogue" routine can see how quickly your "Mary Kay charisma" disappears when they are exposed to it day, after day, after day, after day, after day, etc., etc., etc.)

3. Consider getting a condominium in New York or Washington. An East Coast base of operations would ease what could become an onerous travel schedule from Alaska. (That way you can see crackheads and hookers from your front porch.)

4. Write and master three types of speeches. One speech “is to make money,” he said, and should be something smart and entertaining. (I'm sorry, did he say "write something smart"?)

The second set of speeches includes what Gingrich calls “high-value” addresses designed to be delivered before major interest groups and universities, enabling Palin to “project her brand.”
(Palin's brand is that of a quitter, a victim, and a liar. Good luck marketing that.)

The third speech, of course, is a campaign stump speech that she can take on the road in 2010 to help Republican candidates raise money and gain attention. (This is something that she just might be good at. I agree with the Newt on this one. Shh don't tell anybody.)

5. Create some sort of national project or center. This can serve as a base for her political return and an incubator for ideas and action on issues. A National Energy Project, Gingrich said, would be a natural for Palin. (I don't think that Palin "incubates" ideas. I could tell you what I think she incubates, but that will just sound ugly. Here is a hint: It rhymes with "lazy".)

6. Plan on working really, really hard. Many ex-politicians confuse being a celebrity with being a serious political player, Gingrich said. “She can be a personality for a long time,” he said. “But that is very different from becoming a national leader.” (This is also good advice. And advice that I absolutely do not think that Palin can follow. I don't believe that Sarah entered politics to be a "serious political player". She did it to become a somebody. She did it to finally teach that bitch who beat her out for the Miss Alaska crown a lesson. She did it to be famous. Period.)

I am not a fan of Newt Gingrich but I think it was very nice of him to give Sarah Palin some advice that she will never, ever take. And it has inspired me to do the same.

Gryphen's six pieces of advice for his ex-Governor:
1) Don't incite hate against the President. He won the election, you didn't, and acting this way just make you look petty and hateful.

2) Don't keep using your children as props. It does not make you look warm and motherly, it makes you look creepy and manipulative.

3) Don't blame all of your mistakes on others. Eventually there will be so many bodies thrown under that bus that it will be too high centered for its wheels to even touch the ground. Then what will you do?

4) Don't Facebook. Even if you hire a room full of ghostwriters the messages coming from that source make you sound less like a future leader and more like a spoiled teenager complaining to the world that nobody likes her because they are all jealous of her good looks and cool clothes. This is not how serious adults get their messages heard.

5) Don't twitter, it makes you sound insane.

6) And finally, just don't bother.

You are finished.

The media knows it.

Alaskans know it.

The Republican party knows it.

Even Todd knows it.

The only ones who don't know it are you, your small group of crazy-ass sycophants, and people who still think they can make a buck off of you.

Do yourself a favor, prioritize your family, make some money with public appearances, and try to find some peace. Learn to like yourself again, and perhaps you will be able to break your addiction to the limelight and accept that you have value even if the world is not looking at you.

A brain transplant is the only way Palin can make a comeback.

    Good luck with that.

  2. These people who claim that Palin will be a huge fundraiser are wrong. Remember right after she quit? She offered to help raise funds for whomever requested her, she even offered to help certain Democrats. Most people shied away from her some outright said they didn't want her help as it would only hurt their chances.
I have always believed she would suck at fundraising. She does have a base but her base is batshit insane. Any politician with half a brain knows they cannot win an election with just Sarah' base. They tend to scare off moderate and Independent voters.
As far as learning? She is too narcissistic to learn. Remember, the narcissistic personality thinks that they are always right. Even mild constructive criticism is too much for Sarah. You would end up on her enemy list.
Today on Hardball, Michelle Bachmann said she did not want to be "Palinized"! Can you believe it? Bachmann actually said that! I hope yo got to watch the segment. It was Lawrence O'Donnell today and he is so much better than Tweety.
Sarah will continue with her lies and outrageous comments where ever and when ever she can. But I think she went too far with the death panel crap. If that wasn't enough, she'll soon come out with something worse.

Anyone who would give Sarah Palin $$ now--in any form of a transaction such as book purchase, for speeches, donations, etc.-- is just plain stupid.

Oh, and wake me up when Newt Gingrich has been politically rehabilitated. Because taking political advice from Newt is like buying coffins from a corpse.

  8. Yeah Gingrich - "him" ... about every 4-5 years, he makes a valiant attempt to resurrect himself as someone "pertinent". He hopes and prays that everyone has forgotten his reprehensible behavior when he went to his dying wife's hospital room to ask for a divorce, rather than just wait for her to die. He thinks people will forget that he is lacking in moral fiber of any kind.

I think he and Sarah are a cute couple. He looks like a giant round lollipop and she's got the mouth to wrap around it, and the lips to suck it.

Her base is now officially in a frenzy - no one knows or cares where she is. She isn't writing her own stuff. No one wants her to fundraise and the only publicity she's gotten recently is the Star.

You couldn't pay people to line their birdcages with her news. She is so yesterday. Even her most loyal followers are having difficulty worshipping at the feet of St. Sarah when she's hiding in a cave somewhere with her mouth taped shut.

Narcissists like her do really shit*y at being nobodies.

I'm not positive about that, but pretty sure I've heard it stated that way. Confirmation?

She is such a fool She honestly thinks her little term papers from Facebook changed something Congress did??? She is emotionally disturbed and delusional if she thinks she is actually so powerful that she can change public policy!!! ROL!! She is NUTS! Everyone is making fun of her and yet she thinks she is protected from the media now because she is only using Facebook!

  37. Newt is wasting his breath. His 6-step program sounds reasonable but Buttercup doesn't listen to anyone. She had similar advice after the McCain/Palin ticket was resoundingly defeated in the presidential election- go back to Alaska, finish out your term with good legislation, make speeches on topics like energy, study hard and learn about national issues, foreign policy, and the names of a few newspapers and magazines. What did she do with that advice? Not introduce any meaningful legislation, nominate an unqualified and polarizing man as AG, plagiarize someone else's words, get into a tabloid war with an 18-year old boy and then quit her office without explanation. She's not disciplined enough to follow Newt's (or anyone else's) advice and is too unprofessional and irrational to be counted on to not back out of speaking engagements or communicate for any organization outside of facebook or twitter.

Gryphen- your own advice is incredibly insightful and well reasoned and very generous given how you have been treated by Buttercup and her disciples.

Re Palin's pageant placement...and this hurts ...3rd in 1984 or, more diplomatically, 2nd runner-up. She was Miss Big Lake in 1985 but did not place at all in Miss AK contest.

    http://articles.latimes.com/2008/oct/21/nation/na-palincollege21?pg=2

"Maryline Blackburn, who beat Palin for Miss Alaska in June 1984, said Palin, who competed as Miss Wasilla, earned at least $1,250 when she placed third and was named Miss Congeniality. The following year, Palin competed as Miss Big Lake and did not place, said Blackburn, a professional singer in Georgia."

    "Her imagined win" Lizabeth.

The Wall Street Journal asks the question, "Palin Wins:
If she's dim and Obama is brilliant, how did he lose the argument to her?

The L.A. Times, that renowned center of prop-Palinism, also reported
that Palin "has won a legislative victory".

I'm not quite certain if you understand how the process of drafting a bill, refining it, presenting it in commitee, and then on the floor works.
There is no need to vote on any potential legislation before it is presented on the floor. Nor does it matter that the congressional leaders drafting this bill are not in session. All it takes are a few phone calls and it's done--which it is.

In addition to the L.A. Times and the Wall Street Journal two other liberal commentators, Mickey Kraus of "Slate" and Charles Lane of the Washing Post conceded that despite Palin's inflammatory rhetoric, there was some merit to her argument. (You won't believe this, of course and you probably won't hear about it because Mr. Griffin has a very stringent editorial policy: only posts which paint Palin as moronic, irrelevant, and evil make the cut.

Others buying into Palin's imaginary victory are the U.S. News and World Report ("Score One for Sarah Palin on the Healthcare Reform Death Panels"); The Huffington Post ("Palin Wins"); The Kansas City Star (Palin Wins Death Panel Victory").

What's the latest on the divorce?

lth care, including Slate's Mickey Kaus and the Washington Post's Charles Lane, have argued that the end-of-life provision in the bill is problematic--acknowledging in effect (and, in Kaus's case, in so many words) that Palin had a point.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anon you don't get it!!!! She did not win a legislative victory period because there is no final legislation! That is what you are missing! The senate hasn't a bill!! Clearly you don't understand that nothing is won until it's all over and yes I do understand the process. Do you have to be so patronizing? Just as many news sources are reporting the opposite of what you said. The senate has not voted because it's a house bill.

And there is no panel period! So the house removed reimbursing doctors for end of life care? That isn't a win for anyone! It hurts doctors, it hurts patienes and their families. And it has nothing to do with a panel of any sort does it?? Where in the house PROPOSED bill is there a word about a panel??

No matter what you say or a few papers say, Palin is not crafting or effecting policy from Facebook. Anyone who reports that has not really read the bill sorry!
And 98% of congress think she is a nut job.

Why don't you quote for us the part about "death panels" that was taken out?
If she is accusing a physician of being that panel, then she is truly loonier than anyone thinks.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Re: Imagined Win

Sarah Palin set off a fire storm with her remarks. It was removed because members in the Senate and the Congress want to be re-elected. These "august and learned" members of our legislative branch were concerned about the public's perception and the recent uprisings at town hall meetings. Many people read about the "death panels" and panicked. Those headlines sell newspapers. It was far easier for our legislative branch to remove it stating that"the wording can be confusing" than try to convince the citizens of its merits. I am angry because they are assuming that the majority of the citizens of the U.S. are morons and believe her rants.
I don't care who the winner is. Its the losers that I care about. Doctors will not be reimbursed for the visit. Yea, reduced costs. People want advice and I was one of them. Now there are many who might be left to solve the problem without sufficient information. It is obvious that Sarah Palin has never had to face these very hard decisions concerning end of life care for loved ones.
Yeah, she won. What did she win? Will her statement cause people to shy away from seeking their doctor's advice fearing his/her response? These consultations involve hospice, feeding tubes etc. It is a way to make end of life care better for the person. We are human beings and we do not want to see our loved ones suffer. So, yeah, she won.
PS: Great Post, Gryphen, I was going to send the article to you but you already had it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anonymous9:41 PM

All that Palin is apparently opposed to is doctors being reimbursed for advance care directives by someone other than the patient. Unless she has changed her mind on the importance of having a living will/advance directive, and discussions with physicians regarding your own end of life care, then she just wants people to pay for their own visits to the doctors for these discussions.

So in essence she is simply looking to ensure that the poorer people who may not be able to afford that extra visit out of pocket don't get the help that they need, while the people who can afford it will have no problems. Which simply proves yet again she can make the claim that she is "just one of the regular Joe's out there" when in reality she supports only those who have $$$. She wants to be part of the 'elite' set which she constantly demeans but is desperate to obtain that title for herself.

It would take a miracle for her to come out and speak of these issues she finds so important and answer questions because she has no hope of discussing this issue with others. She just isn't capable. She needs to have someone write this all down for her, clean up what she wants to say, and add a little research to her claims for it to seem as if she has some intelligence on the issue, when in fact, if she were to sit down with a real group of people (not fox news who would allow her to spout her talking points only) and have to attempt a discussion of the facts and show a bit of knowledge on the issue she would just be lost. We know this simply because this was her same behavior when she was trying to win the seat as Governor and specifically stated "do facts & figures really matter".

She doesn't care about facts. She would rather appeal to people's base emotions and play on their fears to make a point. That is all she has. She is nothing without someone else doing the work for her. NOTHING!

Don’t worry Sarah is writing a book. It might be a picture book or a book on how to field dress a moose. She will give some great interviews to People Magazine and National Enquirer. She will do plenty of face time on TV shows like Jerry Springer, SNL, and Tyra Banks. She has three speeches already prepared….a resignation speech, a "dump on the media speech" and “everyone else is to blame” speech. She doesn’t want to opt for a condo in NY or WDC but would settle for a trailer house in Arkansas. She already has a credible organization called SarahPAC (the name really stands for Sarah’s Products and Cosmetics). "Get an East Cast base of operations"

You mean among the "elitists"? You know, those effete, liberal elites who live on the coasts? Unlike, of course, "real" Americans, those salt-of-the-earth commoners out there in the heartland??

God, these fuckers are such hypocrites....

Newt Gingrich actually does make some sense here. Paul Begala has this one almost right, she is more like the McCain handlers described. She is a whole whack job, not half a whack. Sarah Palin the listener, it's a mute point for the quitter has been. She is a lost cause whether or not she listens. The GOP is clinging to the sex star power they saw in her, it is all they have. It is why none of it will last. They are getting a small boost from insurance and health, that is hardly over. Let them puff up, the deeper they will implode. There are those that will hang on to their dream forever. It is time to ignore them. If she is able to return to the spotlight she will be rebranded and just another kind of freak. Her disciples don't care. They will love a new version and will glorify her as if she did it all and it is perfect. Reasonable people will know they are being duped. There is no reason to take a quitter and a grifter serious.

I'm watching for the next fake Sarah to twitter. It should be good to put her in her place in the a$$clown hall of infamy.

LOL! Gryphen, you hit the nail on the head. I've been telling my pals for months that we would all be better off if only Palin had won that damn crown. She's been crazy pissed off since then.

You lost credibility when you listed Huffpo and US News as being on the Palin Wins boat.

Did you even read the Huffpo article? Or did you just read the headline? It wasn't really about Palin winning.

And the US News piece wasn't actually from the editors, rather an opinion piece by Peter Roff, who obviously has a woodie.

Re: "Anon, you don't get it"

To the person whose only tool is a hammer, every problem is seen as a nail.

You have a strong dislike for Palin. I get that. If you can just back away from that for a moment I'm sure you'll see that to HER supporters (and, yes, even, to one or two contributors at Huff Post and the other sources I cited) she won this round.

You can deny that this part of the bill still has the breath of life in it but it is dead. We can discount sources who see it either way.

I think I might have mentioned this on another thread but fighter pilots
    have a maxim: "You can't achieve a best-case outcome until you're willing to accept a worse-case scenario."

You have a suspicious mole on your arm? Until it's proven otherwise
prudence suggests you accept the possibility it's a melanoma.

There's important legislation needed to be passed on health care but
one of the few republican congressional leaders who has the president's back on a bipartisan bill says a part of it is DOA?

Is it wiser for the president to buy John Dean's "Grassley probably won't
even get to vote on it." or accept that this part of the bill, as written, and perhaps even much of the entire legislation is strongly disapproved of (44%-26% according to Rasmussen and according to Gallup is now 35/36, down from 56/33 in July.)?

The answer, in my opinion, is a no-brainer. You accept the worse-case scenario that the "death-panel" issue is certainly a dealbreaker and you get back to the bottom line of trying to save the 20,000 lives that are lost annually because the decedents were unassured.

There is nothing to be gained by making this a turf war between Palin and the Oval Office. There's a lot to lose by denying that Palin won a
substantial "publicity" fight: she has proven--even as far away as in the U.K., France, Germany, and Australia--that her "five minutes of fame" are not over, she is not irrelevant, and, almost incomprehensibly, she is a "player" on the national political stage.

"A man's enemies are those of his own household."

Not only does the president have to deal with a sick economy, a divided country, and a potential military disaster in Afghanistan, he's got to contain the hatred his supporters feel for Palin and which seem to only be empowering her.

    That's what I get.
