The so-called "Values Voters" demonstrated those values by ridiculing President Obama's health care plan and harrassing the press.

Poking fun at President Obama's health care plan, Tony Perkins opened the Values Voters Summit in Washington on Friday quipping that he fears the effort will produce a system with the empathy of the Internal Revenue Service and the efficiency of the Federal Emergency Management Administration. (B the way if you want to learn more about Tony Perkins, and the rest of these wingnuts I urge you to buy Max Blumenthal's "Republican Gomorrah". It will REALLY open your eyes.)

The religious-social right has never been about fire and brimstone but about moral behavior by government and citizens. Legalized abortion and same-sex marriages rank at the top of the movement's must-stop agenda.

The next speaker was former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who proceeded to rock the house with humor.

Dismissing the health care "reform" approach of Mr. Obama and the Democratic Congress, Mr. Huckabee compared the "real" health problem to "an NFL game on Sunday 22 people down on the field desperately in need of rest and 70,000 in the stands desperately in need of exercise."

"There is America's health care problem right there," he said.

Mr. Huckabee, who ran second to Arizona Sen. John McCain in the Republican presidential nomination contest last year, has been an increasingly important figure in the religious-social right movement that bemoans what former Education Secretary William J. Bennett has called the "coarsening of American culture."

Now a Fox News talk-show host, Mr. Huckabee let fly with such zingers aimed at Mr. Obama as "The audacity of hope has become the audacity of hypocrisy," and America is being trivialized and demeaned into "land czars, clunker cars and Hollywood stars." (To read the Washington Times entire article just click the title of this post.)

And when they weren't trivializing the lack of medical coverage for millions of Americans they were attempting to bully the press who they must have feared would accurately depict just what they were up to at this summit

Poking fun at the President for trying to help poor people? Making false statements about health care reform? Christian wingnuttery? Blaming the press? How could Sarah Palin possibly have missed this? This summit seems tailor made for somebody like her.

In Palin's absence disgraced Miss California Carrie Prejean tried to fill the void.

If I may Miss Prejean. I know Sarah Palin. Sarah Palin is an ex-Governor of mine. You miss are NO Sarah Palin!

Thanks for posting this. What has happened to these people? I feel like I am in a parallel universe! Oh, and Perjean stating that she is "disgusted with all the intolerance" is priceless. The Ultimate Pot calling the Kettle. Shaking my head and wondering how this all came to be.

P.S. I saw that incident with the MSNBC reporter and it was upsetting to watch. These people are out of control.

  3. OT, but very very bizarre: the palin/biden debate becomes an opera. a real, produced opera.

yes, there is a video. yes, it is embedable (hit play, click "get code" select blogger....).

i can't say it looks "good", but it sure is worth a look!

I don't know. I think she indeed could be the next conservative media darling, in the vein of Sarah Palin. She's cute, spunky, and very conservative (just like Sarah) - but unlike Sarah, she seems pretty well spoken (even if you don't like what she has to say). Geesh, that's all we need - another Sarah Palin!

The idiotic, non-sensical Sarah is bad enough. If we get a copy cat who is well spoken (and better looking)- look out!

  5. To the Editor:

I know I should not be surprised--but I still am always surprised whenever a conservative complains about how that conservative has been mistreated by either the public at large, or by the ever popular "vocal minority."

Ms. Prejean is a good example. She begins by saying that she had "never seen anything like" the storm that rained down on her, after the Miss (sic) USA pageant. Of course, she is twenty-two, and admits to having "never paid attention to politics," but she is a "college student." I mean, doesn't anyone talk about the shitstorm that rained down on Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew? Or the horseshit that was the Whitewater/Vince Foster/Travel-gate/File-gate/Paula Jones etc etc investigations of Bill Clinton (resulting in a bogus and insulting "impeachment") that amounted to nothing? Has ANYONE in contemporary life been vilified to the extent that Hillary Clinton has?

I did (and still do) despise President Ronald Reagan (and if anyone cares, I'd be happy to explain why--I'm sure no one does), but at least when his administration virtually collapsed after the Iran-Contra scandal, I don't remember him complaining about how people talked bad about him. President Jimmy Carter was denounced every way humanly possible a person could be denounced--and he didn't complain about it. Same with George HW Bush. But President George W Bush, Private Citizen Sarah Palin--good grief.

And now poor little rich girl tool Carrie Prejean: No one's EVER been treated worse than me! At least she didn't talk about how she reads the book of Job from the Christian Bible. That makes me crazy, because either the self-professed Bible reader is lying, or has miserable reading comprehension.

    But that's another rant.

    I remain:
    Really cranky.

  6. There is a formula, and Prejean is mining it. The "poor abused martyr on a cross" act that plays to misguided conservatives from Peoria to Dallas to Pittsburgh. How MANY times can she stand up and wring sighs of sympathy out of that same story? As many times as the rubes will come and pay for it, in other words - forever.

    Gryphen,
They sure are an ' arrogant ' bunch... ur bitch.
    Maybe instead of buying $arah's book they would be better off purchasing Dale Carnegie's " How to Win Friends and Influence People"{ like they would really practice anything it}
Jimmy Kimmel last night on his Show showed the same NBC clip you have. He also showed a clip from a FOX reporter as well. They were just as nasty to the Fox guy. The Fox guy was sort of giving it back to him.He was saying... I am trying to help you out here by telling your story... THEY didn't care.Find it if you can. It was funny. These people hate everybody.

Oh yeh, I'm all Christian now, maybe the ruffles on my shirt will help cover up my fake boobies which are what Chrisians are all about and everyone will forget about all my nice Christian family-value photos

I know so many people who say they are conservatives and don't want govt in their lives....except when the kids go to college they scream that their kids don't get enough financial aid or I've known the rich to try, not try, they do scam the financial aid system...these people voted mcfailin in the last election...good thing OBAMA won or there wouldn't be much financial aid for them to scam
I know someone who screams republican/evangelical and when her furnace broke down and she couldn't afford a new one where did she go...Yes, a govt sponsored program that helps pay your heat bills and if needed they will buy you a new furnace...oh yeh, a group also came out to her house and did an energy assessment and she received a new refrigerator and free weatherization, in actions, she is a democrat/liberal when it helps her or her family but she doesn't want govt in her life and how will we pay for insurance when we're too busy paying for free furnaces or refrigerators... She counts on that tax refund also..why don't all these repubs forfeit a tax refund..she didn't need to get help for these items..if she wasn't spending so much money going out to eat because she doesn't want to cook, ...I got mine by buying used I didn't run to the govt for help and I'm one of those flamin' liberals
For these people just like Ms Prejean who wants to do what they want and carry the repub flag when they want, when it may help her cafreer(was going to correct the spelling but I think cafreer is the right term here), Oh no, my shirt blew open at the photo shoot I wasn't trying to show by boobies..oh no that wan't really cocaine I was snorting....but if it helps me I'll do it.... Republican when it helps me and Democrat when it helps me too...We want it our way, don't we.......I see so many fake republicans/evangelicals it's making me nauseous....Sorry my soapbox for today

Huckabee came in thrid. Mitt Romney suspended his campain, as he did the Math and he had no chance of winning. Huck was way behind Romney, the second place candidate. Huckabee hates Romney, and is rabid Anti-mormon. He stayed in the race until he had one more delegate than Romney.
Huckabee is dishonest as they come. He likes to get his jabs into romney whenever possible about the Mass healthcare. While not perfect, it's a da*mm sight better than what he did in Arkansas. Huckabee will never have Romney on his bigot show to talk about health care. That's too easy, and folks might know what their hearts are telling them. Huck is a liar, a thief, a bigot and most of all, dishonest.
I also don't regard Prejean as a role model for my daughters. True 'christian' women don't take their clothes off for a photographer in the hopes of advancing their career, as she did. And she still dresses like a lady of the evening. She was 'fired' not because of gay marriage views, but because she frigging broke her contract. What a maroon.

  10. I really despise Huckabee - he's a snake beneath the pseudoChristian veneer.
Last year, didn't they sell the racist Obama Waffles Mix at this same Values Voter event? They cannot hide their true selves, masquerading as Christians while making fun of the sick and the poor. Disgusting!

Is this her? The one who hears the voices of God and Satan in her head? Isn't that a sign of acute psychosis or schizophrenia or something? Why isn't she getting her meds? Maybe she can't afford them any more. Maybe her insurance company dropped her because blonde is a pre-existing condition... health reform NOW!

  12. Oh prejean.. what was her point?
That she was attacked "viciously" for standing up for God?
Even though her comment offended a bazillion folks including the person asking the question?
    And her other point was..
? uh.. oh she has a crown of glory waiting for her in heaven
She did get that bony finger action and they are all out to get me "Palin Style" down..
    anyhoos

I find it a bit bizarro that the folk rattling against Gay people.. just going off about how disgusting, perverted, it is just wrong, immoral.. let them all burn in hell.. ship them off to another island
sick sick people those Gay people are

hrrmm.. Aren't these the same folk that like to sit in a dark room, alone, for some "private time" watching two Lesbian ladies go at it on video?

I thought Gay people's are pervs and should burn in hell?
Who here is more creepy, pervy.. oh all those words they throw out there?

This babe is a really fine ventriloquist!
Just you try and say an "m" word without bringing your lips together. She did her entire speech with 9 upper teeth totally exposed. This is an important pageant skill. Are the teeth real or implants?

  14. If you read Republican Gomorrah you will get an insight into these people's minds, how they think, and how they use people for financial gain. They love to play the victim card.

As far as all the anti-gay shit...it is all to hide the closet self hating homosexuals that are in their ranks. Haggard, Foley, Craig there are so many. These guys turn to the evangelical movement to hide themselves. Many of their leaders are also sex addicts, drug and alcohol abusers, and just plain freaks. They use religion as a substitute for their vices, but it never works out in the end.

I think Miss Prejean is going to have to fight Mrs. Palin for that crown she was talking about.

At least these people televised this event so we can all see their crazy on display. I am trying to get through as much of it as I can, but I think I have to push most of it off to tonight when I will have a refreshing beverage on hand.

After seeing the C Prejean address, I actually feel bad for that young girl, because she has been deluded, maybe by ultra-fringe fundamentals, that she too has a Queen Esther purpose, with her reference to "at such a time as this". Meaning, that Esther had a great conflict to save her people, and chose to risk herself by speaking out. All of the Type-Fringe christian girls want to be an Esther it seems. But at what price? Most of these ladies have been pampered and brought up to high places in a short time, not by hard work, and hard sweat, and studying, but by their exterior beauty. Voters values seems to have switched gears from the real meaning of the bible. Not to mention that the real Queen Esther's life was probably no picnic living with a King who had many wives.
They romanticize this story and sell it to the "beautiful" youth, who take it and run with it, thinking they are going to be the Miss Christian of the world. It's very sad.

VV seems to unveil young people by rewarding those who seek the spotlight. These are the same who thought SP was their Poster Girl.

The VV has turned to the tv evangelist crowd, adorning themselves with pride about their maytyr accomplishments, their trophies, prosperity, they look like the money-changers at the tables of ego, empowerment meant only to serve themselves.

    Rant over.

She uses her hands like Sarah, rolls her eyes,( looks crazy as a result) keeps her teeth visable at all times. Must practice in a mirror.

    so far she hasn't winked.

    Yup, a Sarah clone.

Wonder if the altercation with the reporter was a planned attack? Bet it was. Because it was done during the 1-2 minutes the camera was on. Those nasty reporters!

The young lady lied on her 14-page application to the CA pageant about previous modeling shoots. And then she said she forgot. She should have been fired when the photos were found on the internet. Oh, but the photos were okay according to the boss. So, she was allowed to keep the crown and a few weeks later she was fired for violating the contract. Then she filed suit against the CA pageant for religious discrimination. Of course, the boss was not listed as a defendant.

I had a hard time listening to her speech. She said she knew that Miss USA wanted her, they needed her. Oh, and that she has the courage and bravery that not many people have. Wow. Big head, with a lot of I's. And you know what, boasting, like lying, is not Christ-like trait.

She's utterly pathetic and a good example of why we should NOT INDOCTRINATE OUR CHILDREN. Geez louise. The part about intolerance was priceless. She does have the Palin hand gestures nailed. And the eye movements. She is easier to follow than Sarah. Ultimatley she is just a superficial nobody who lost a stooopid beauty pageant crown for goodness sakes.

  23. I agree about "Republican Gomorrah". I received my copy in the mail yesterday, and although it is horrifying..really...it is an excellent read. I think I love Max Blumenthal.

There is something really creepy about these people and heaven help us all if they come to power any time soon.

Our Canadian prime minister is bent along the same lines as many at the VV summit. He just cannot get away with it here. He is stuck with a minority government, and I hope it stays that way as long as he is in power.
