4th Avenue Theater to become Hard Rock Cafe? Yes please!

Ah kids. The memories I have of sitting in this wonderful theater are legion. I can remember that going to the 4th Avenue Theater was always different than going to any other theater in Anchorage.

With its beautiful murals depicting the history of our state, to the Big Dipper displayed on the ceiling in tiny lights, the theater was an experience unto itself.

It survived the devastating earthquake of 1964, completely intact, only to be victimized by increased competition from larger multiplexes and virtually non-existent parking. Even though I loved it, spending half an hour looking for parking and then walking several blocks to reach the front door proved too frustrating to compete with it's much more accessible competition.

My only problem with this plan is that I would not want the new owners to strip the theater of it's historic flavor by removing the Alaska murals and big dipper. I know that the Hard Rock Cafes have a certain theme but perhaps they would see fit to allow this HRC to preserve its inherent uniqueness.

I guess this means that we need to hurry up and generate some home-grown Alaskan rock...besides 36 Crazyfists and Jewel. ("Who?" and "she's folk, not rock.")

Maybe they can have a display recreating the 80's video by Robert Palmer "Addicted to Love"...but with Palin-lookalikes as the all-female backup band.

  2. The Hard Rock Cafe is not what it's cracked up to be.
I hope you won't be too disappointed.

I forgot to put the period after Portugal. Check out their website.

I really like their album “Censored Colors.”

    Hard Rock - Over-rated - Over-priced

  7. I used to live in Las Vegas - home of the Hard Rock Hotel and Cafe. Hotel is cool, the cafe is not. It's just another themed restaurant with overpriced menu fare and lame memorabilia. The HRC hasn't been relevant since the mid-90's.

What ANC really needs is an ESPN Zone. Now THAT would be popular.
