Sarkozy applauds choice of Barack Obama at recipient of Nobel Peace Prize.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy says the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Barack Obama embodies the "return of America into the hearts of the people of the world."

In a message to the US president, Sarkozy expresses his "very great joy" for Obama and says the honor should strengthen the US leader's determination to work toward peace, justice and "maintaining our planet's great balances."

Uh oh! Now that the President of FRANCE has given his thumbs up for Obama's award you know what that means.

Now McDonald's restaurants in red states like Georgia and Texas will have to change their menu's to say "freedom fries" again.

I wonder how many crocodile tears for Glenn Beck and apoplectic outbursts for Rush Limbaugh THIS will inspire?

Update: John McCain demonstrates the class that seems to be in short supply with most of the Republicans by congratulating Obama on his win.

“I congratulate President Obama on receiving this prestigious award. I join my fellow Americans in expressing pride in our president on this occasion,” McCain said Friday in a prepared statement.

Anybody want to guess at what Palin's response will be?

  2. Ok, I will guess on Palin's response: "It is a disgrace that he-who-must-be-obeyed got this silly award and it means nothing - I GOT THE SENIOR MOTHER AWARD in honor of OUR troops - take THAT, HA!"
Meanwhile, Stapletongue admits that $arah has volunteered to campaign for major Republican's for their 2010 races.
    NOBODY WANTS HER THERE.
    Wonder WHY?

  3. Oh yea, President Obama is donating his $1.4MM winnings from the Nobel Peace Prize to charity.

How much you want to bet that his critics will then complain about the charities he chooses to donate to?! These people are really just sad.

Sarah Palin, needing to nudge Obama out of limelight, anointed herself with "Piece of Work" award today. No one has nerve to tell her diff betwn piece and peace, but she did give PR statement: "Sarah can see Nobel from her kitchen window".

Can you imagine what the right wing radio people would say if Obama donates his prize to Acorn???

  6. This letter from our President was in my inbox a few minutes ago. I am sure many of you received it as well but I thought I would still share.

    My Name was here --

This morning, Michelle and I awoke to some surprising and humbling news. At 6 a.m., we received word that I'd been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.

To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize -- men and women who've inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.

But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it's also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.

That is why I've said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won't all be met during my presidency, or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it's recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone.

This award -- and the call to action that comes with it -- does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better.

So today we humbly recommit to the important work that we've begun together. I'm grateful that you've stood with me thus far, and I'm honored to continue our vital work in the years to come.

    Thank you,

    President Barack Obama

naked truth...you are spot on. I was on Palin's facebook page earlier (got to keep up with what the Palinbots are doing and saying)and they were ON FIRE about the award.

First it was how dare him, how greedy blah blah blah. When it was pointed out that he was donating it to charity they started saying he would donate it to Acorn, Planned Parenthood, Rev. Wright's church yada yada yada

Rep Alan Grayson said it best tonight when he said if Pres. Obama found a solution for world hunger the Repubs would blame him for overpopulation

OK, you know I'm losing my mind when I read your headline as Sarah Palin applauds choice of Barack Obama . . . as if!

  10. Barack Hussein Obama has accomplished two things that Sarah "the Quitter" Palin will NEVER attain:
    1) President of the United States
    2) Winner of a Nobel Peace Prize

Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside just knowing this.

During the Democratic primary season, I was asked by family and friends countless times who I supported - Obama or Hillary. (Everyone knows I am a political junkie).

I sent out an email to everybody on my list, saying that after much thought, I was supporting Barack Hussein Obama and listed my reasons. My NUMBER ONE reason was that I thought that by nominating (and then hopefully electing) him, was that we would tell the rest of the world, "Hey, we're open for business again. We want to be part of the world community after eight long years of spurning all other countries". That was my NUMBER ONE reason, and reading Sarkozy's words made me know that I was right about electing Obama.

Oh, and like Patti@6.22p, I usually refer to him by his FULL name. Because the more you say it, the less "scary" it is.

By the way, I also said in my email, that if Hillary were nominated I would support her candidacy fully and that I hoped everyone I was writing to would as well.

Wow, I can see now how Chicago losing the Olympics was a huge blow to Obama's credibility on the world stage. Wait, Sarkozy must not have gotten the memo from the Republican bloviators. Doesn't Sarkozy know that Obama lost his street cred? Even bro' Michael Steele says so. So does Beck and Lord Limbaugh.

Who are we going to trust, the Nobel Prize Committee, France's President Nicolas Sarkozy, and most of the world or a few embittered imbecilic losers who envy Obama's popularity and success?

Anon @4:39, you beat me to punch suggesting that Obama should donate the money to ACORN. Better yet, an endowed Sarah Palin scholarship fund to ACORN.

What will Sarah's message to President Barack Hussein Obama, Nobel Peace Prize Winner be?

Nothing. Her silence will speak volumes.

  15. When I read this morning the prize Obama won was $1.4 million I said outloud to myself that he will donate it to charity. You know I was awake all night from pain which happens to me sometimes. I saw the first posts about it in this country and they were negative. I then checked newspapers in other countries and many of their leaders were just thrilled. If you talk to citizens in other countries they were very happy for us ordinary citizens here when Obama was elected, but really a pres like GWB harms a lot of people in the world, so they were happy for the world.

Ella, would you like to guess again?

Palin has refused to comment on the award of the Nobel Prize. How could she do otherwise?

There are MANY in the media--not just on the right--(i.e, The Los Angeles and Washington Post (both solidly in his corner) who are not particularly thrilled with the honor.

Not surprisingly, there are many congressional leaders on the right who outwardly may have been magnanimous but who are equally unimpressed.

If Palin is congradulatory it will doubtless offends many in her base; if she is critical, she will reaffirm an image she is trying to abandon as
a politician with a mean streak.

So, she is taking a middle path, "No comment" which will only further alienate those who already despise her.

    It's the safe course.

At the same time, I wouldn't be panting for her to unload on Levi. He has stamped himself as the Kato Kalin du Jour and he will get nothing more than a token acknowledgement in her book. I'd even bet she comes off quite maternally, suggesting he was just a kid with an awful lot on his plate that had he another chance, might have made a few choices differently.

    Yo, anon 9:06,

The Los Angeles Times is not a liberal paper and they are not in obama's corner. they are actually a right wing conservative paper. The WaPo is not in anyone's corner, either.

You might want to repeat this to yourself several times a day:

"Not everything in Los Angeles/Hollywood/on a coast is against me".

You should really know what you're talking about before you come here and try to defend Palin by attacking the media and obama.... and yawn!!!!! that tactic is as old as the sun with you people.

Sarah is furious about Obama winning the Nobel Prize. Reportedly her comment was "I should have won the NO BELLY piece prize, just look at my abs and didn't they notice I had NO BELLY when carrying Trig. Plus, I could use the money there are a lot of mouths than need to remain shut and that takes money."

  22. A little something I posted on a site today that I was on:
The naysayers are entitled to their opinions, whatever they may be, but there's one thing which can from this point on be established as an historical fact, and that is that we now have as CIC one President Barack Hussein Obama, Nobel Peace Prize Winner and Laureate, and no amount of negativity will ever cause this to change one iota.
The Nobel Peace Prize Committee chose President Barack Hussein Obama as the winner, and I don't recall reading anywhere any media, foreign or domestic, that stated that the NPP Committee admitted to consulting anyone posting here to obtain his/her prior approval of their choice.

Simply put: Suck it up, buttercups. Take the horses of hate and divisiveness, mount up, and ride off into the sunset to parts unknown, taking your cohorts with you. You're just that important to the members of the NPP Committee.

And they didn't consult me either. I didn't ask them to. It was a done deal before I or any of you heard of it.

    It is what it is.
