White House Communications Director Anita Dunn slammed Fox News in an interview on CNN with Howie Kurtz this morning, saying that Fox News "is more a wing of the Republican Party" than an objective news organization.
"The reality of it is that Fox News often operates almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party," Dunn said.
This follows up on Dunn's comment to Timeearlier this week that Fox News is "opinion journalism masquerading as news."
Well I say good for the White House to finally say out loud what all of us who follow the REAL news have known for quite some time.
Without a sympathetic White House pretending that these guys are the real thing, maybe the rest of America will finally stop choosing these asswipes as their source for information.
God wouldn't that dramatically improve the IQ of the average American!
Update: Oooh I found video!
I found it here at Huffington Post.
I have heard a lot of creative nicknames for "Fox News", and some are so funny and fit so well. I can't take credit (or blame for that matter) for coming up with these two, but they are the ones I've decided to start using: I will say "Clusterfox" when I am speaking about the channel, and I will say "Foxsuckers" when I am referring to people who get their "news" from that channel. I'm usually quite soft spoken and don't have a foul mouth whatsoever, but this issue really has me fired up because of how misleading this "news group" is and how damaging it is to our very democracy.
ReplyDelete"Meet the Foxers"
ReplyDeleteFaux News is much more than a faux pas...
ReplyDeleteFrom RU Murdick's own mouth:
"For better or for worse, our company [News Corp] is a reflection of my thinking, my character, my values."
Did you see this Fox report on terrorist?
ReplyDeletehttp://tiny.cc/usgcC
Disturbing explosives case: Family ran a day care with bomb-making material and neo-Nazi lit in the back
"Yep, they were hoping it would be part of their favorite new storyline about radical Islamists hiding out in American suburbs and preparing to strike with a fresh round of terrorist acts."
I think Obama should yank the press credentials from any FauxNews personnel. They aren't reporters so why continue the farce of including them in the White House Press Corps. They would howl like scalded cats, but how would that be any different?
ReplyDeleteMarginalize them and make it difficult for advertisers to do business with them. I am hoping that the FCC either proposes further regulations which would curb FN's excesses or allow for a la carte cable selection. If people had to actually purchase FauxNews instead of having it bundled, it would cease to exist. Sure the sheeple might buy it, but the channel's revenue would go in the toilet and they would not be able to pay the ridiculous salaries that they do for their "stars," They would either disappear or have to drastically scale back their operations.
I will not get cable or satellite until I can make sure not one damn penny of my money ends up in Murdoch's filthy clutches.
The best way to affect Murdick is to tell your friends and family to not buy anything murdick. This is not easy but it must be done. Money is power, take away their money, you take away their power. Now lets come of with a list of all things Murdock. Thats a start.
ReplyDeleteGasman I also refuse to by anything Murdoch. No cable no satelite no books nothing till this crap is a thing of the past. Tell your family tell your friends that this will not stop till we stop giving money to them. Frankly i dont mind as now my wife and i spend more time together not watching TV.Life is lived not absorbed.
ReplyDeleteYou know Fox news is not fair and balanced because they are always trying to defend that they are.....Any person with a small amount of common sense can see how much of a farse this Fox Entertainment channel. Morning time Fox and friends...HORRIBLE bias!! Glenn Beck, Cavuto, Hannity, all the short skirts there and Billo to an extent
ReplyDelete@GASMAN
ReplyDeleteNo need to silence their voice. This is America and they can say what they want. If you don't like fox news, dont watch it.
We all know there are millions of stupid people in this country and if they like dishonest reporting, so be it. Its their perogative.
OT - a C4Pee-er is reporting that Walmart no longer has Going Rogue on its website. He immediately goes to the positive and thinks that it's because Walmart must have already sold out. Wonder if there might be other reasons. It's hard to believe that a giant like Walmart wouldn't be given books if it wanted them. -
ReplyDelete"I reported on an earlier thread that WalMart no longer has Going Rogue on their website where it has been #1 in pre-release sales for the last 2 weeks. When you type in the title you come to a page with the title typed in, and a link to Barnes and Noble. It makes me wonder if WalMart has already sold the number of books it was allotted. Which leads to another question, just how many books would WalMart be allotted, keeping in mind that there are over 2,500 WalMart stores, and over 580 Sam's Club stores. If they did already sell their allottment, that must be one boat load of books."
REAL news ?
ReplyDeleteOh please girl, you wouldn't know REAL news if it slapped you upside your silly head.
You mean corporate news ?
Look, you need to go outside this corporate controlled bullshit to get the real story.
Try Amy Goodman, or Al Jazeera to start.
CNN isn't real news, either is MSNBC FAUX or any of the other tripe that's out there.
Do yourself a favor, Kill Your TV.
Matt,
ReplyDeleteYou cannot claim protection as a member of the press if you are not a journalist. Constitutionally guaranteed speech applies to individuals and not to organizations. Organizations have no Constitutional rights to do anything. Rights are granted to individual citizens, not groups of citizens. ights are not accrued in groups. Otherwise, your rights would multiply you joined more and larger organizations. If they are not legitimate journalists then they cannot claim protection as such. Besides, protection under the law is different than having rights. FauxNews as an entity has no rights.
Economic boycotts, refusing to purchase their "product," and even banning them from the White House is not silencing. They are still free to pretend to be journalists to their heart's content. However, they are not afforded any legal protections while doing so. They are nothing more than a Republican Party organ and as such should not enjoy any special access to the White House.
The Constitutional right to free speech applies to individuals not being silenced by the government. It does not guarantee a right to broadcast nor a right to White House press credentials. If the White House yanks their privileges, there isn't a damn thing FauxNews can do except bitch and moan.
When FauxNews quits the company wide talking points, the overt integration with the Republican Party, when they quit engaging in the Orwellian practice of editing their transcripts to alter content, and when the cease their Machiavellian campaign of lies meant to deceive the American public, then they can claim to be journalists.
Until then, they should not be treated like a news organization by the White House or anybody else, because they aren't even close.
Faux news should not be treated like a news organization. Sarah Palin should not be treated like a politician.
ReplyDeletePALIN: NOTORIETY AND CASH vs PRESIDENTIAL POLITICS?
GOP Presidential material, Mitt Romney has a book coming out on "weighty policy matters"
'No Apology: The Case of American Greatness.'
'Will Palin use her books to score revenge points? (Levi Johnston, this means you!) Will she dish dirt on inside Republican politics? Will she have anything original to say about policy matters?'
