Fresh off her "success" in New York, Sarah Palin decides to try her hand at influencing the Governor's race in Virginia.

Sarah Palin isn’t staying out of the Virginia governor’s race after all.

Less than 48 hours before voters head to the polls to elect a new governor, several Virginians reported receiving robocalls on Sunday from the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, urging them to “vote for Sarah’s principles” on Tuesday.

Now for those of you who are unfamiliar with "Sarah's principles" let me explain. "Sarah's principles" are ANYTHING that helps Sarah. You know like lying about giving birth to a Down's syndrome baby in order to garner support from the evangelical crowd. Or by trying to squeeze as much money out of your Governor's job as possible by charging a per diem to stay in your own house. Or like taking advantage of a host by bringing your children along on official business without clearing it with the party that invited you first. Or by asking for $100,000 dollars to attend a fundraiser, having the money raised by your rabid supporters, and then canceling when you receive criticism by other Republicans, and leaving your disciples looking like idiots.

I know what some of you are thinking. "No way Gryphen! Even Sarah Palin is not so arrogant as to assume that she has the clout to have an impact on the Governor's race in Virginia!"

Really? Well does THIS voice sound familiar?

It is little difficult to hear, but this is what she said:

“Virginia, hello, this is Sarah Palin calling to urge you to go to the polls Tuesday and vote for Sarah’s principles,” the former Alaska governor says in the call, which was provided to CNN by one Democrat who recorded it. “The eyes of America will be on Virginia and make no mistake about it, every vote counts. So don’t take anything for granted, vote your values on Tuesday, and urge your friends and family to vote, too.”

And in case you are STILL having trouble believing it,

Meg Stapleton, a spokeswoman for Palin, confirmed the authenticity of the calls.

Well there you have it. If Staplemouth says they are real, then by God they are real.

But hey get this, Bob McDonnell, the Republican gubernatorial candidate did not even ASK for Sarah's help. As a matter of fact he has been staying away from her because he thinks she might be polarizing. Gee no shit!

Sorry Mr. McDonnell, but just because you do not want Sarah Palin's "help" does not mean you don't GET Sarah Palin's help. And did you notice that the calls don't even mention McDonnell's name? Make no mistake, this is all about Sarah, and "Sarah's principles".

And if that is not unbelievably arrogant enough do you remember THIS from her VP campaign last October?

"If I called all the shots, and if I could wave a magic wand," Palin said, "I would be sitting at a kitchen table with more and more Americans, talking to them about our plan to get the economy back on track and winning the war, and not having to rely on the old conventional ways of campaigning that includes those robocalls, and includes spending so much money on the television ads that, I think, is kind of draining out there in terms of Americans' attention span.

"They get a bit irritated with just being inundated," she continued, "and you're seeing a lot of that of course with the huge amounts of money that Barack Obama is able to spend on his ads and his robocalls also."

"Could somebody please tap Sarah on the shoulder? I have a call from "Hypocrisy" on line one, and another from somebody named "Irony" on line two. They say it is urgent."

Not to drop names but I was just talking to Shannyn Moore (Radio host, MSNBC contributor, and star of her own upcoming television program) last night and we were discussing just how bizarre our world has become since Sarah Palin dropped into it, but even WE are at a loss to predict just what she might do next.

(I must give a warm blogger shout out to my friend Bree Palin for bringing this story to my attention. Damn girl you are the shiznit!)

Update: Well apparently Palin actually said "share our principles" and not "SARAH principles". I swear I listened to the call three times before posting, and was convinced I was hearing "Sarah". I would like to apologize to both Sarah Palin and my visitors for getting that wrong. Ah what can I say? If you post as often as I do you are bound to step in it once in awhile.

Should be interesting! I hope Deeds plays this for all it's worth. I'm a Virginia voter and the only people Palin MIGHT influence are those Virginians in the far western part of the state, jammed up against the likes of Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia. In Northern and Central Virginia, diverse and savvy areas of educated and politically astute citizens, she'll get little traction.

    Let us PRAY!

It's actually a little more insidious than you mention. The VA governor's race is almost a done deal for the Republican. Creigh Deeds - the Democrat - has not run a good campaign and will very likely lose big tomorrow.

So, WHEN the Republican wins, and wins big, Ms Palin can claim the victory is because of HER influence. People who don't follow politics as closely as most of us here, may think Ms Palin WAS the reason the Republican won.

it sounds like she says "vote to share our priciples" although that really doesn't make sense. but I really have no idea.

maybe meg can release a transcript?

"hi meg, we the people need you to translate palin's robocall." pretty sad.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Anonymous6:24 AM

Oops. I think there must have been a clerical error in transcription, Gryphen. Something tells me that it went more like this:

"If I called all the shots, and if I could wave an AK47," Palin said, "I would be sitting at the desk in the oval office, with more and more Americans being manipulated into emptying the money out of their pockets into my various trusts and marketing schemes--and believing in the neocon preemptive war malarkey. They won't have to rely on the old conventional ways of campaigning or spending so much money on the television ads, cause once I'm sittin' at that desk, I ain't movin'--from there, I think I can kind of drain the remainder of America's attention span. They get a bit irritated with having to think for themselves," she continued, "you're seeing a lot of them liberals paying too close attention to what I'm saying in those robocalls."

"Bristol, give me the baby--the photographers are here. Smile Trigg. Damn it, 'I said smile, you little...!"

Aww, Gryphen, I'm so feeling the love this morning!

I love this part of your post:
"If I called all the shots, and if I could wave a magic wand," Palin said, "I would be sitting at a kitchen table with more and more Americans, talking to them . . ."

Now that she's got all this free, unemployed time on her hands what's stopping her from sitting and talking to Americans at their kitchen tables?

Mitt Romney has been in VA, working hard for the GOP candidate. Leave it to Palin to steal the show, and cast herself in the limelight, and not those that actually WORKED their butts off.

But that's saraugh for ya. Unless she can be the queen, the star of the show, she won't run in. And the last place I'd want to sit is across from this bimbo at a kitchen table. I hate mooseburgers, and I hate hypocrites.

Phoebes...you're right, Deeds HAS run a lousy campaign. His first mistake was not accepting help from the White House when it was first offered. Great sigh!

However, I'd sooner see Mickey Mouse in the governor's mansion than McDonnell. He's an awful choice for Virginia. The RNC has been throwing money his way for ages.

I'm just hoping people will wake up tomorrow morning and make the sane choice.

I think SP's speech in Milwaukee is coming up this Friday (if I am not mistaken). I also can't wait to find out if she shows up for real, and with which family members, or if Megletongue has to make some excuse for her again, too. And if she will deign to speak as well to some local reporter, perhaps, also, who might ask WTF her future plans are, and is it true that she thinks she has been appointed by the Almighty in the Sky to lead (small portions of) this nation into the Rapture and just leave the rest of us evil heathens in an earthly firestorm?

  18. Oh, I love that--"locks on our doors"!! you betcha!

I'm in NJ and I do NOT want Christie to win. And not just because it would empower Sarah even more. I live in a town that has been staunchly Republican for eons and you should have seen the number of people at a Democratic party this weekend. I thought after the Presidential election the enthusiasm would have faded but maybe there's reason to hope that people are in this struggle for the long haul. I hope so, as it seems like Sarah and her like-minded folks, are not going to go quietly

This woman's ego and ignorance is simply beyond belief - even for those of us who have been following her the past 14 months! That little head of hers must just be exploding with self importance and "I'll show them". I have to say at this point, NOTHING this woman ever does will surprise me. I wish all the candidates would take out an ad saying "Dear Sarah Palin, please keep you nose out of my campaign", but then I guess that would just be a waste of good money.

God Sarah is so incredibly mentall ill. McDonnell did not want her help! If you remember she was mad he had asked her a long time ago but then recently basically said thanks but no thanks. I wonder if this is her screw you response? Especially because she doesn't even use his name! That is the really wacko part "vote for Sarahs principles!!" not vote for McDonnell because of HIS principles! She is one sick puppy. I got one of those robocalls....she actually says "vote for our shared principles." Romney was supposed to make 4 stops here last week---they stopped at 2 because he was only drawing 100 people or less to the rallies. The President had nice crowds in the Hampton Roads area (never saw a number reported) but it's probably too late for Deeds. Palin drew huge crowds in the Richmond (32,000) and Roanoke (21,000) areas last October but no idea what kind of crowds she'd have drawn for McDonnell. He's been up by nearly double-digits since August, so he didn't need anyone's help, really: no wonder he doesn't want to rock the boat.

    Dear Sarah,

You were released from the psychiatric facility on a conditional basis. Your "principles" as you defined them were malleable, contradictory, and narrow in content. Themes, though, were persistent and a cause of great concern to the staff as you decompensated quickly in euphoria, paranoia, disconnect, and a generalized psychotic state. As you may not recall, the antipsychotic medications helped to diminish the hallucinations, agitation, confusion, and delusions of your psychotic episodes.

You were released conditionally to Meg Staplegun when you were stabilized and continuing to take your antipsychotic medication. It was assumed that Ms. Staplegun was stable and capable of adhering to the outpatient plan designed for you. Ms. Staplegun did not display any outward signs that might have alerted staff--at that time.

We have not been able to connect with Ms. Staplegun. She has not returned the one call that actually got through to her voicemail. Subsequent attempts to contact her have not been successful. We have learned since that Ms. Staplegun does indeed have her own psychiatric issues that prevent her from exercising appropriate, thoughtful, and relevant responses in her role as (?) for you.

Our concern is for you (not to mention millions of others who listen to your crazy, insane, stupid rant of the moment) that you will need longterm psychiatric care in One Flew Over the Cuckoo Nest Rehabilitation and Psychiatric Facility.

This letter is merely a formality. We are sending a team for you Sarah-- and no, it is not TeamSarah, to bring you back where you belong at the Cuckoo Nest. You may choose to take your medication or not. The choice is up to you; however, your new residence is a high security facility that cannot be penetrated by the outside--cannot be escaped from the inside. We look forward to having you back.

  47. Bob McDonnell is just as much of a wingnut as Sarah. They are almost kindred spirits. Bob is a flat earth, global warming denier, dominionist, pro-lifer even in cases of rape and incest. He is Pat Robertson's Manchurian candidate. He has reinvented himself as a moderate in order to win as Governor. But, unlike Sarah, he is actually intelligent, so he saw the writing on the wall after the Resignation on the Lake, and distanced himself from her. I wish he hadn't. Sarah Palin was a very big factor in our state turning blue in a presidential election for the first time since 1964. Bob McDonnell can read a poll...Obama's favorable rating is high in Virginia, Sarah's is low. Unfortunately Deeds didn't heed the help offered to him by Gov Kaine and the DNC. He ignored it, and ran a piss poor campaign. I didn't vote for Deeds in the primary because I knew this would be the result. He never connected to voters here in Northern Virginia, which basically decides elections.

Anyway, regardless, Sarah has to show the FEC that she is actually campaigning for candidates and donating money to them to continue on with SarahPAC. I think it was incredibly egotistical of her to conduct these calls...."Sarah Palin principles"?? WTF? Like let your daughter have premarital sex with her baby daddy in your home?

    Excellent question KaJo!

Palin is just plain dumb as a hole in a doughnut and, apparently, afraid of the big bad, bad media! But why? Hmm.

Paranoid? Riddled with fear of the truth plus a slew of untruths just plain ol' lies? (Wouldn't you if you were Palin? Sheesh!) Feelings of being Inadequate? (Um, yep, you are). Stupid? (Another bulls-eye). Childhood development incomplete? (No doubt!). Unable to stand/sit and talk or think at the same time? (Really tough to do, ya know?)

I was out for the day on Saturday and when I returned, I was going through the 12 voice messages that were left for me, quickly hitting delete as soon as I could identify that they were political in nature. I could kick myself as I hit the delete button just as I heard *hello this is Sarah Palin*; I never got a chance to hear the rest. I'm registered as a democrat but I'm sure she wasn't stumping for Corsine. Or was she? lol

  55. Anonymous 3:53PM:

So Sarah has entered the NJ Governor's race with a robo call. I thought she would leave this one alone. Don't know which candidate, it will help. We,in NJ, have our own difficulties selecting from a group of three candidates and choosing the one who will be the less evil. We don't need Sarah who knows nothing about NJ to help us decide. After reading the posts, I have to agree with many. She is a spoiler. The Republican candidates for Governor of Virginia and NJ did not want her help. She had to show them! Should they win tomorrow,( Ihope not in NJ) it was all due to her one robo call ( in her mind and those of her followers.)
In my reality, I hope to wake up on November 4th and discover that Corizine won in NJ,and Owens won in District 23 NY. As far as Virginia, I defer to those who posted who say a democratic victory is not in the cards. I wish Sarah could be stopped in her tracks. It really scares me that a person of no substance can be deemed powerful and influential. If she prevails, our country has a third plague......the economy, the war, and Sarah Palin.

She's AGAINST robocalls if Obama is making them. . .but FOR them if it's her voice on the line.

She's AGAINST releasing her own email record but FOR the release of her opponents emails in a previous election.

And she's got Fox shilling for her again this morning, telling flat out lies. They actually reported that she was first ASKED to help with the VA race but DECLINED (instead of the other way around). And then at the last minute she decided to jump in and do the calls independently.

They got the last part right, but entirely LIED about the former.

And the NY race is fraught with fraud. It appears that the Hoffman camp created a fake Dems for Scozzofava site days before the Siena poll making it look like she was a Dem shill.
