Uh oh! It looks like this teabagger crowd has broken its shackles and is running amok throughout the political arena, crushing GOP candidates and Democrats alike under its giant ungainly feet!
Many of the activists who helped knock out Scozzafava told POLITICOthat the passion is building despite — and sometimes to spite — Republican leaders in Washington.
“I don’t give a crap about party,” said Jennifer Bernstone, a tea party organizer for Central New York 912, which helped to lead the anti-Scozzafava charge. “Grass-roots activists don’t care about party.”
Says Everett Wilkinson, a tea party organizer in Florida: “We are not going to allow our [movement] to be stolen by the GOP or by any political party.”
This energy on the right seems to exist outside the control of the conventional political structure, and GOP politicians and operatives are as likely to be victims of this anger as beneficiaries.
It looks like this thing is just as angry at the Bush administration as they are at Barack Hussein Obama. We might just want to back away slowly here.
The newest incarnation of confrontational conservatism — driven more by animosity toward government and Obama than by the social passions of the 1990s — has plenty of energy and bodies to turn out big crowds at tea party events, hijack congressional town hall meetings as it did in August and defeat a GOP-establishment-backed House candidate.
Oh my God, there is no reasoning with this creature! Run! Save yourselves! Don't bother trying to stop it for no sane person could possibly speak its language!
It also has leaders with louder microphones than those of House Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio or Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky: former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Facebook page, Rush Limbaugh and his radio show and Glenn Beck with his popular 5 p.m. slot on Fox News.
Ohhhh, Tht's right! The language of the teabaggers is "crazy" and we all know that Caribou Barbie is fluent in that, now don't we?
So Sarah has finally found her constituency. "Too batshit-crazy for the Democrats or the Republicans? Well than YOU are MY kind of people!"
I wonder what their political platform will be? "A bottle of Oxycontin in every medicine cabinet, a Downs Syndrome baby in every nursery, and Schizophrenia for everybody!"
You know maybe those Mayans were on to something. I think 2012 really might be the end of the world!
Gryphen,
ReplyDeleteSchizophrenia is a real disease which touches many families. Please don't use this word in this context.
Thank you.
I was hoping you were going to seperate this out and do a different post on it. This article deserves wide dispersal so we don't all get complacent in our smugness about how "stupid" Sarah and her minoins are.
ReplyDeleteGryphen, how can you allow ads for McDonnel for governor of Virginia and ads for Palin's books, etc. to be on your blogspot?
ReplyDeleteAre you not aware of what is being put on your site?
My head hurts! Can't remember how I got directed to Brad's Blog today but He spends quite some time interviewing tea baggers in SoCal. Well done.
ReplyDeleteAnd O/T - Gryphen I feel readers have become a bit testy of late. Please ignore and keep up the good work.
Thanks Gryphen
ReplyDeleteReading Max's book has left me feeling a teensy bit fragile.....your post here has helped alleviate that. Thanks for the laughs - I'll now bury myself in the constant "Drumbeat of Death". ;-)
I just spent a weekend with a family member who is positive that President Obama was born in Kenya and is a Muslim. I am horrified that a former smart women has been brain washed by this movement. What is so very strange to me is she is NOT a born again christian and is very pro-choice. I don't think she has any idea that the party she is endorsing has been hijacked by the ultra religious right.
ReplyDeleteWay to go, Gryphen! You have outdone yourself with this one! Yes, the moose is loose on the field! The bats have escaped the belfry. The lunatics have taken over the asylum. I could go on, but I think I'll just wait for the election results to come in tomorrow. I expect all our TV news programs to become progressively more ALL PALIN ALL THE TIME as we approach 11/17/09! Ruh-roh....
ReplyDeleteI am waiting patiently as I said before, but for the good of the country, you or whoever your sources are need to spill the beans on Sarah ASAP. This is getting out of control.
ReplyDeleteJust read Sarah's message on facebook. I can hear her screeching as I read. She is in full hyperdrive. The only way to handle this is to be sure that Hoffman only gets about 10 votes from those within the district. She really is off her meds.
ReplyDelete10catsinmd
This is the movement of palin.
ReplyDeleteSome fibbing(lying) going on with the Hoffman supporters, concerning the endorsement of DeDe(she endorsed Owens, NOT Hoffman) and the record of Bill Owens.
This does not bode well when you start lying during the campaign, before you even get to Washington.
The "Down's Syndrone baby" comment was unnecessary.
ReplyDeleteSilvermoon (Mudflats poster)
The moon is full. Who knows what voters will go for.
ReplyDeleteI don't think gryphon has any say on what ads are used here.
I agree with anon @11:20. This is an issue that a lot of people face and you shouldn't be making light of it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteSo just got off the phone with my cousin's wife family in up state NY. Apparently they don't take to kindly to "stupid Alaskan chics putting their nose in their business...".... They don't appreciate the nationwide focus that the crazy chic brings.... "she maybe for sale but we arn't so eaisly bought and sold... ".
ReplyDeleteThey also think after the election, the stupid Alaskan one is going to launch a new party of stupidity... If the democrat looses, it will be launched as a coup, if a democrat wins, the newly party announcement will be a media free for all and the loss of a repub will be out of sight out of mind, due to the media coverage.
By the way, this family votes repub, but will vote dem. Just to take back their district from "the likes of rude stupid Alaskan chics that have no clue about us (upstate NY residents)"....
Just thought I would share some info.
I too believe Palin will launch her new party of stupid clueless ones...
Remember the lady at the tea bag rally with the straw hat with all the tea bags dangling from the brim? I wish someone cleverer than I would Photoshop that hat and Sarah Paylin’s face together. Just that image alone would be enough to dampen any hopes of higher political office for the Evil Queen of the North. It would be hard to ever see her face again without laughing.
ReplyDeleteJust sayin’
sunnyjane,
ReplyDeleteGoogle put the ads here, Gryphen doesn't have control over it.
ManxMamma you said it so well. Gryphen thanks for all you do.
ReplyDeleteYikes Gryphen....I'm afraid the crazies are following you today. I'm getting out of here.
ReplyDeleteI personally thought it was a very informative blog the baggers scare the s*** out of me.
"The GOP has created a monster that it can't control. With the tear ducts of Beck, the intelligence of Palin, and the body mass of Rush Limbaugh."
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine what this combination would really be like?
An emotional, homophobic, fat ass, paranoid, reichwing teabaggin nutjob who winks, lies, manipulates and back stabs.
Can we decapitate it before it grows?

Gryphen,
ReplyDeleteWhy isn't the press making it know that Quittypants brought SOCIALISM to Alaska? It seems like a missed opportunity. All her ranting about President Obama being a socialist, communitst, marxist, etc., needs to be countered by the truth!
SOMEONE needs to get busy and get the truth out.
Your Canadian friend,
FJ DANDY
You use phrases such as 'knuckle draggers,' 'mouth breathers,' and 'anklebiters' used to dehumanize those whose value systems differ from yours.
ReplyDeleteThis is the same type of dehumanization that supports racism, anti-semitism, genocide and hate in its many forms. Easy to dismiss as just 'sarcasm' when you utter it, but so ugly when used by those whose actions we find justifiably despicable.
I particularly abhor this usage on progressive sites where the essence of liberalism connotes open-mindedness and a belief in the essential goodness of humanity.
This is why I was moved to defend an unknown individual who was made the subject of scorn for asking a US Senator to say and spell her name. Whether she did it out of sheer ignorance, standard practice, or just the result of being new to the game or new to the 'market,' it is too easy to lose sight of the fact that there is a human being at the other end of the derision. One who probably entered into her exchange with good intention. A human being to whom we might offer the same grace we would wish to receive.
Mockery is so easy, but understanding requires both curiosity and effort.
Those whose intentional thoughtlessness, recklessness, or deceit harms others may well deserve our scorn, but I would hope we could reserve it for true evil and strive to be constructive in most of our undertakings.
@anon 11:53 I know exactly how you feel. On two different evenings during the summer, we had dinner with friends whom we hadn't seen for a whle.
ReplyDeleteA couple of evenings tuned to Keith Olbermann has made me familiar with Faux News' Talking Points, the ones that John Stewart will play in a comedy montage. Imagine how awkward it was to hear dear friends spouting those same ridiculous statements as truths.
I turned to the guy, a fellow who went to the university with my husband and is a brilliant lawyer. I just said, "Your have to stop watching Fox News." He was amazed, "How did you know that I watch Fox News?"
Think about the children's program "Sesame Street" which teaches through colorful cartoons and catchy jingles. They discovered that kids easily learned and remembered catchy advertising and designed their program to capture kids' attention in the same way. I am guessing that the same kind of thinking went into marketing Glenn, Bill, Rush, Sarah, Michele, the other Michele, and every other right wing nut. They have found slogans (thanks Frank Luntz) that connect with receptive minds and click- people actually believe that stuff. There is no talking to them. It is scary that people are so easily fooled.
Whew...sounds lke someone's got a stick up her/his/its ass (can we say stick here?.
ReplyDeleteEven political correctness taken to the extreme is still extremeism. I guess the best way not to offend anyone is what, be silent?
New Yorkers are smart enough to see through palin's crap and will vote accordingly. I hope Hoffman, Perry and anyone else she endorses loses by huge margins. It's time to take her down a few notches if not all the way...wouldn't hurt my feelings. I absolutely detest that creature.
ReplyDeleteman talk about some hypersensitive people!!
ReplyDeletelighten the f - up!
palin and her supporters are certifiably insane - so we're not supposed to say that now? good grief people.
thanks for the 2012 link gryphen and keep up the good work! keep calling it like you see it, you can't worry about offending people cause someone will always be offended no matter what you do.
To anon at 1:56 pm. A journalist who is unable to recognize a Senator from the state she is covering and doesn't recognize the Senator's name to the point that she needs it spelled out, deserves to be mocked out of the business.
ReplyDeleteSilvermoon, I believe that Gryphen is referring to a statement $P made in her quitter speech in which she said "we need more children like Trig in the world" (paraphrased), which she said in response to perceived criticism of her "choice" to not abort a DS child.
ReplyDeleteHope that made sense.
Well, I am a person who has had to deal with schizophrenia in my family, and yet Gryphen's use of it here is a less technical but perfectly valid usage of the term as well. It never occured to me to take offense. Let us lighten up and remember our humor and not get off onto PC tangents. Plus, Grypen is obviously a kind and sensitive guy who would not disparage the unfortunate.
ReplyDeletedistrict 23 is a "dead" district. the lines are being redrawn soon.
ReplyDeleteI think something to keep in mind when you hear polls indicate this or that keep in mind that they call people mostly on landlines and who is home during these hours answering landlines????
ReplyDeletethe big decider in 2010 and 2012 from what i've read is going to be the youth vote....
barracuda78
by the way is anyone else having trouble accessing Mudflats???
OK.
ReplyDeleteCALLING ALL ALASKANS IN GENERAL, AND ALASKAN BLOGGERS IN PARTICULAR:
PLEASE STOP THIS RUN-AWAY TRAIN IN ITS TRACKS BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!! The future of our country is up in the air, and rests in your hands.
Please do not wait any longer in disclosing what you know about $arah Palin, FORMER 1/2-term GINO of Alaska, Grifter and liar extraordinaire.
Anon @ 1:56
ReplyDeleteThe difference that you don't seem to grasp (for whatever reason) is that Sarah's point of view and "principles" fall under the distinct headings of archaic, narrow minded, manipulative and hypocritical. By default, those who dance and prance around her feet, by their own choice, place themselves under the headings you have stated: i.e. knuckle draggers, mouth breathers and anklebiters. Their choice, not ours.
When you say:
"Many a person has been one who probably entered into her exchange with good intention. A human being to whom we might offer the same grace we would wish to receive."
In this, I agree with you--many a person has and should be treated with respect. However, this response requires that I remind you that Sarah has stated that she believed that "God" personally and purposely opened a "door" just for her. This fact does not reflect "good intention," instead it glares of self inflation and arrogance.
Any thinking person understands that it was someone other than "God" who opened that door that she bolded crashed through..and after she and McCain lost the election, rather than step back through that door and finish the job she had been elected to do, spend time in some serious self evaluation, seek valuable insight about international affairs and even learn a little about geography outside Alaska, the Aleutian Islands and the eastern coast of "Russia," she put her fingers to twittering and her full out efforts towards making her millions.
The simple formulas for this are:
Sarah Palin's principles=cha ching!
Sarah Palin followers=paypals
All that being said--Gryphen, I think maybe Sarah has mistaken the Plebians for the Pleiadians. That's really too bad, since the collective Plebian vibration will be so dense by 12/21/12 that they are likely to shatter into nothing more than little piles of stone and miss all the fun.
These are the inheritors of the Chaos theory of politics introduced by the RepoTaliban.
ReplyDeleteJust remember that Hitler's little band of thugs took over a whole country during a time or chaos, economic turmoil, and weak political leadership from the old guard. They were able to galvanize the angry Vexed Populi and literally beat the other parties to a pulp, by creating as much chaos as they could and blaming governmental failure on everybody but themselves.
Also too, they were hate monger, and bigots.
Sound familiar?
Crusading for "unknown individuals", some of whom use the most vicious slanderous epithets themselves and some of whom may or may not be ignorant but also have no idea you're crusading for them -- that activity rarely is appreciated by those you defend, but if it makes you feel good, Anonymous @ 1:56 PM, go for it.
ReplyDeleteFedup,
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid you will be waiting awhile for the bloggers to let what they know come out. Gryphen already said he would not do it on his blog. I'm thinking we will have to wait for someones book to be published and I dont mean Levis. Whoever it is I hope they are not easily called a liar by Palin and that they have proof. Without proof all she has to do is say they are lying and its a he said/she said deal. I hope that is not what it is. I fear though that proof is not there because if it was I see no reason for the bloggers not to take the credit.
