Sarah Palin has written a book for a very specific audience.

(H/T to Zina Saunders for the image. Thanks Phil!)

On virtually EVERY page of "Going Rogue" Sarah Palin mentions God.

She brings it up on page 56 when she learns of her miscarriage/abortion, ("Why God, Why?"), and then again on page 57 where she thanks God for blessing her with Bristol.

(In what can only be a completely fabricated account) She talks to God when she "learns" that Trig has Downs Syndrome, and then mentions God when she is tapped to be the VP, and again when she learns they have lost the election, and when she decided to resign her Governorship, and when she decided what to have for breakfast, and again, and again, and again.

In "Going Rogue" God is mentioned more than Todd, more than Bristol, more than Trig, and almost as many times as Sarah herself.

It is clear that this book is aimed for a very specific demographic. The demographic of believers, as opposed to the demographic of the thinkers.

As I have watched the numerous Huffington Post pieces leaked from the McCain campaign staff, and other sources, adamantly disagreeing with Palin's version of events on the campaign trial I kept thinking, "Wow she is going to destroy herself by showing the world that she is a complete fraud!"

But I failed to understand that she could not care less about the "world" that WE live in.

This book is not for "us", it is for "them".

And that point is clearly evidenced by THIS passage:

Elsewhere in this volume, she talks about creationism, saying she “didn’t believe in the theory that human beings — thinking, loving beings — originated from fish that sprouted legs and crawled out of the sea” or from “monkeys who eventually swung down from the trees.” In everything that happens to her, from meeting Todd to her selection by Mr. McCain for the Republican ticket, she sees the hand of God: “My life is in His hands. I encourage readers to do what I did many years ago, invite Him in to take over.”

If your response was like mine you thought "Holy crap! She has just committed political suicide! Nobody would elect somebody that simple minded!", and if you did then you are not her target audience. You are an "intellectual elitist", and this book is not for you. It is for them.

And who are they? They are the evangelicals and biblical purists who believe that every event is a struggle between the powers of light (God, Jesus, Sarah Palin) and the forces of evil (Satan, Islam, Barack Obama). To them there are always two versions of everything. The evil version (truth) and the good version (Sarah Palin's "revealed truth"). And NOTHING that we can say will dissuade them from that point of view.

In many VERY Christian homes throughout America, "Going Rogue" will share a special place on the bookshelf sandwiched between the Bible and "The Purpose Driven Life". It will be read repeatedly by devotees looking for inspiration to tackle their own difficulties in life. And every word within will be believed as if it were carried down on stone tablets from Mt. Sinai itself.

Sarah Palin is NOT running for President. Her goals are much loftier. She wants to help control the process. She wants to, in some way, have a hand in how we pick our political leaders, either by supporting certain candidates and convincing her minions to vote for them, or by creating a third, more Christan based, party. In that way she, and her handlers, believe they can reform this country into a theocracy where only the "saved" will have influence and others are marginalized and hopefully driven out, leaving this "Christian nation" in the hands of the true believers.

Will she be successful? No. Not completely.

But the question is how much influence WILL she have ? Much of that will depend on what happens in the next couple of years. If Barack Obama does a great job, then she will only keep a rabid, racist, group of fundies paying attention to her. But if we have another terrorist attack, or the country continues to slide toward economic disaster, then she will have her opening, and her influence will grow.

Hopefully before that happens we will have revealed, for all the world to see, the "real Sarah Palin". Will that be enough? In a world driven by logic, yes. But of course the followers of Sarah Palin are not part of that world, so for them I simply cannot say.

  1. Gryphen - you NAILED it! This is the best review (of her book) that I have seen. I totally GET it!
There is no point in arguing facts or reason with the group for who this book is written. My evangelical relatives just smile a SMUG smile if I try to point out the importance of logic, facts, and scientific proof.
Here is the chiller: There are many religious fanatics here in the U.S. - 'Going Rogue' has just gone into SECOND PRINTING - 1.5 million is not enough to meet the demand (WTF?).
President Obama cannot waive a magic wand and erase eight years of economic disaster. I worry about the people who vote based on "anyone but the incumbent." That is how AK got Palin in the first place.
May I suggest, Gryph, that you send out this post to various publications - as a book review?

Well Gryph - I must say that for national interest purposes, I think this post is your best ever.

We can all have fun researching and speculating about the babygate business but we must remember WHY Sarah's lies and hypocrisy are so important to begin with. Lots of politicians lie, and lots are hypocrites. Lots have scandalous behaviors they're trying to hide. What sets Sarah apart and makes her so dangerous is her dominionist beliefs and associations. She is up to her neck in the New Apostolic Reformation. Google it !!

research can be found at Theopalinism, God's Own Party?, Talk to Action, Theocracy Watch, Southern Poverty Law Center and Military Religious Freedom Foundation - just to name a few.

She is on a roll now. From all the leaks, where the hell is the policy that rush was talking about?

Newsmax is offering her book for $4.97 to their audience/her followers.. so they can spread the myths and lies. I hope Mitt Romney and other GOP'ers have a think tank going on, to stop this cancer named Sarah Palin, save their party, and our country from America's Taliban.

@ella- you have got to be kidding. SECOND printing? That's a huge downer. With her book discrediting McCain's campaign, and all her "God" stuff included, she IS creating a third party.

Of course they don't care about facts. They are in a CULT.

They are now claiming that they already knew that Trig wasn't hers and they don't care.

It's Machiavellian -- they stand for NOTHING.

I have a few mormon neighbots (nor neighbors) and they are as empty as an over turned glass. They don't swim in the deep end of the thinking pool because they would sink like a stone.
The same with the fundie xtians (cannot type Christian in reference to them). They give over every thing to their "god" and "pastor". Just see Jim Jones, Haggard, Swaggart, et al. Palin is the same shit, different decade in high heels, also, too.

While the religious right will buy her dribble, I am hoping her world will start to crumble. The book may start the people who know the damning information to speak up and contradict the stories. Everytime the woman opens her mouth about a situation, she has a different story. I am hoping some news source will compare her comments at the Indiana RTL speech, Wisconsin RTF speech, other speeches and her book so show America the woman is a big time liar.

Gryphen, you are right on Sarah's belief that she is greater than the President. I have been afraid for some time, she thinks she is the Messiah. I have thought her hatred toward Obama was because many referred to him as having Messiah-like qualities.

If they hadn't "vetted" her and waltzed her out of Alaska, she wouldn't have this deranged bunch of fans following her. She would still be just your problem. Just because she didn't win the Vice Presidency doesn't mean she didn't hit the jackpot and we stand to lose big time as long as she's a viable impact on policy and elections. She's dangerous, dangerous, dangerous.

Great post Gryphen. In Sarah's America the end justifys the means, lying, cheating, all of it is done in the Name of God.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Great commentary, Gryphen. It's been apparent to me for some years now that the group of people Palin is directing her book at are "faith based" about *everything*. They have been molded by their extreme fundamentalist churches and preachers to accept anything they are told based on "faith" if it comes from one of the people they have been persuaded is "one of them".

GW Bush was an incomplete example of this phenomenon, as he did have typical money and power connections in the Republican party. But Palin is the full flowering of the "faith based candidate". Statements by her followers bear out that they believe what Sarah does is always right because of who she is. This has been shown at the Sea4Pee numerous times.

Just one example of the faith based mindset of the Palinbots: Sarah quitting as AK governor and the 'bot reaction to this at online pro-Palin websites. As the story started to break it was seen as a fabrication by the "liberal media" who are "out to get her". When she actually came out and gave her speech, the palinistas were freaking out online, some saying they were crying, and some were praying together on line. They thought the resignation was frightening, extremely upsetting, and bad for Sarah. And this was clearly their intial honest reaction. But then major players on the blog stepped in, reminding "the faithful" that Sarah said they were to trust her, that she always knows what she is doing, she quit for a higher purpose, etc. By the end of the day most had come around and were saying it was the best political move in history. The usual comparisons to Reagan etc came out. Some said Sarah is literally the "only person who can save this country".

Gryphen, you are correct to say that this group of Palin's followers are not inhabitants of the world of logic. But I still think we can fight back. The overused cliche of "the best offense is a good defense" has some merit here. One of the biggest dangers today is that many Americans who would completely oppose the theocratic goals of the dominionists unfortunately remain unaware that the movement even exists, or if they are aware, they discount the zeal and depth to which this mindset has become entrenched in our society. Blogs like this and others mentioned above by GenieO help to educate people about the danger this movement poses to this country.

I do have hopes that reaction to Sarah's book and the continued fact checking and exposure of her lying and ethical problems, even as she claims in her book to be such a religious person, will help to expose more people to what she's really all about. Hopefully attention will also be drawn to the lengths to which some fundamentalist evangelicals are willing to go to force their beliefs on everyone else. The first step to fighting back and defending this country is recognizing there is a serious problem and real danger from those who want to turn this country into one ruled by a set of particular religious principles. This blog post is an excellent encapsulation of how Palin's book illustrates her theocratic goals and mindset.

If $arah's "life is in His hands" and she did "invite Him in to take over", then why is she not listening? God keeps slamming doors shut on her, but she is intent on breaking them down anyway.

Disgusted with $arah's repeated obstinate and self-serving ways, perhaps God finally decided to let her enter the Book Door. Oooh! For a few moments $arah was elated beyond her wildest dreams.

Then the reality hit. Knocked her down, called out her lies, began questioning her motives, her overall lack of knowledge, her incurious views about anything that was not MeMeMeMe, being an intellectual featherweight and on, and on. $arah's anti-intellectualism, provincialism and one-dimensionalism was showing.

here is one thing I have learned in all my years of being a "quiet, non church going" christian

    God adores humility

Palin can blab all she wants about yakking it up with her best bud God.. and I am not trying to judge her relationship with him.. her own biz (even though she wants the world to know..alot like the Pharisees.. hrmm) but

if she had any sort of meaningful spiritual screw in her head.. she would of learned long ago the ticket is Humility

    She is the exact opposite
She will drive her snarly claws into anyone that doesn't put HER (not God) on a pedestal

    one creepy lady

I was just watcing the Jaycee Lee story.. her whacko rapist kidnapper became a God freak
    all loons become God freaks

I think that might be it
When people go on and on about God .. they are missing what the personal relationship means
You say "Jesus" .. your relationship is with "Jesus" .. you have a lil' talk with "Jesus"
    not GOD

just shows she bypasses the Jesus part of the equation and goes right to the all mighty power plug.. God

if that makes sense...and yep, here I go judging oh welly

    Matthew 7:15-23 (KJV)

-Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
-Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
-Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
-A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
-Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
-Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
-Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
-Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
-And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

True, what's posted here. Also, we're witnessing a manifestation of foolish men (palinbots) worshipping man (Sarah). Throughout history, this has happened before, where leaders, kings, became the focus of people's adoration until they were claimed as "Gods". Usually, the "God-man/woman" became delusional, and would kill any and all critics. When I read Sarah's FB statement, "Hang em' high", it made me wonder how fundamentalist christians can embrace this woman.

Jesus' mother and father had to flee Egypt and stay 7 years, because the King was afraid he would be usurped by the Messiah-child and felt threatened. He had the first-born Israeli children killed. You think Mary didn't have reason to complain and whine? Mary didn't want to be worshipped, neither did she provoke dissent, divisiveness, go rogue, or complain or try to start a political uprising, or even say, "Hang em' high".

This rogue group of fundies are to me like King Herod and his minions, only concerned about their political power. They don't want the truth. I think Sarah's set herself up for something that even she washn't ready for. I hope and pray she hasn't opened a can of worms that even she can't control. Just my 2 cents worth.

Palin is using religion in much the same way the Taliban are.

Bush used fear mongering as his platform for his 2nd term. Fear mongering is a chapter in the old yellowed pages of the GOP Campaign Binder. Listen to them with the announcement of the trials to be help in NY. Same old, same old. They are the owners of the Flip-Flop like Palin - They were for it before they were against it. As in the successful trials on US soil that terrorists are now jailed in CO. Yet now, the US justice system is uncapable of carrying out trials. Palin is like that pulled from the nets in the Andrea Mitchell interview - A Flip-Floppin' Dead Fish.

I'm looking forward to the media person who seriously investigates and challenges her as to who the ghostwriter is on FB as we know it's not her. I still think it's XPeeMan. You know Palin's cult following have seriously scrapped the bottom of their brain when they accept FB as a political platform as her speeches have been no different than her old stump speeches yet FB is on present issues. FB today also gave mention of Pee'er today. Person on national stage highlighting a blog.

  53. I knew what this book would be about the minute I heard her first stop was GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN!! I happen to live in GR, and West Michigan is known as the "Bible Belt" of Michigan. I have watched, with trepidation, for more than 40 years the evolution of "The People". The Christian school population here is abundant; growing up our neighbors were not allowed to talk to us or play with us as we were "public school" kids. We would watch them "stroll" on Sunday afternoons in their "church clothes" waiting around to go back to church in the evening.

Churches in this area have thousands of members! You can't swing a dead can in West Michigan without hitting a church or a golf course. She will be right at home here! I just hope she leaves!!

'The Family'. These people want this country to be a Christian-only country, led by political and corporate evangelicals. Very worrisome.

  59. I found this in comments at HuffPo and thought you would get a chuckle:

    "A poem for Sarah"

    Funny how facts
    Ultimately fail to
    Counteract any
    Kind of twisted reality
    Yanking words
    Out of thin air
    Undermines the truth
    Simple minded people
    Always seem to be
    Rushing to your side
Admiring your simple wit and complete lack of
    Humility”

"But if we have another terrorist attack, or the country continues to slide toward economic disaster, then she will have her opening, and her influence will grow."

What you are saying, and I agree, is that Sarah is doing, in a different way, what the Republicans are doing, which is wishing for the failure, not so much of Obama,, but of the United States of America’s government.

That means that the blogsphere has to keep her in defensive mode as much aa possible so that her influence doesn't spread.

It is also worth considering that the Catholic Church isn't likely to sit idly by and let Sarah steal their thunder.

It would be a wacko moment in history, but they might have to ally themselves with the liberals to maintain their status as the most powerful religious lobby.

She still wants to be the President,... she just no longer cares HOW she gets there,.... if she ever did. McCain is an honorable man,... but he screwed up big time when he awakened this bimbo's ambitions.

The type of people who will honestly believe the crap she spew are the type that don't want to think for themselves anyway.

It's sad,... to think this country is now stuck with these nuts having any power. It'll be a true "1984",... and "Big Sarah" trying to eradicate all the "heathens".

She has her first convert,.... Rudy Guiliani has just come out on her side. As the Republicans self destruct,... and they will if Health Care passes. They will all come over to her side,... as she will be the only one left will any support base in the GOP. It will be about "power",.... and it will be the only form the GOP has left.

Isn't there some obscure Island somewhere,.... maybe in sight of Russia,... that we can send them all to ? hhmmmmmmmmm

I really believe Palin has the Salem mentality that would make her push her adversaries into the nearest duck pond to see if they floated.

  63. I'm sorry, I didn't catch who had wrote this in the comments, "But we still need to expose Babygate."

I think that's what Sarah is setting herself up to do with all of her stories about miscarriages. She'll try to say she suffered so badly that she had to adopt a Down's Syndrome Baby for the loss of her own.
I also think she is scared shitless about Levi having anything to hold over her head. Or maybe she sick of paying people to be quiet. In Sarah's warped, twisted logic, she thinks that her admitting to lying about a pregnancy will make her out to be more X-tian.

She is one twisted bitch. And we all know that in her worshipers minds, she can simply do no wrong. She could have murdered Trigg's real Mama and they would find justification for it.

I hope that you have a lot more than babygate to reveal about Palin. I have a sinking feeling that her shit will come out smelling like roses, that is, to her followers.

Religous rethuglican't whack jobs who are pro-life only are pro-life until you are born. They are of the Govenor's who put people to death in their states the very most.
Rick Perry, nut job, just executed another innocent man. And don't even get me started on G.W. Bush when he was gov.

Consider too that her parents raised her as a Catholic.

I really think Palin has just promised her family that all they have to do is get through this book tour and she will be done. Even if the right wing tea baggers think she is going to continue ahe not. She is just going to quit after she gets her money. It's all too hard work for her at this point...

  67. "“My life is in His hands. I encourage readers to do what I did many years ago, invite Him in to take over.” -- Sarah Palin"

Aha--so that's the spin. GOD is responsible for her ethics violations, her teenaged daughter getting knocked up, her revenge issues with Wooten, her lies about Trig and faked pregnancy, her grifting, and her neglect of freezing and starving Alaskan citizens. Oh, and her stunning ignorance, he's responsible for that, too.

Because, ya know, nothing is ever *Sarah's* fault!

a book Crazy for God by Frank Schaeffer would be a good book to read to understand the c4pers and how they follow palin.i know some read here so this would be a good book for them to read also Kind of dry and I had to skim over things quickly but it does tell about the type of religion like the focus on family, saddle back church and others and how they sucker people in.

    Lilybart-

She talks to God rather than Jesus because she feels she is a messenger of God. Remember the birth announcment of Trig was signed by God. She thinks she is the Messiah and views her role in that context.

I suppose God made John Mc Cain to forget how many houses he owns?

Thanks Gryphen, this is a great commentary on the why behind the lies and the book!

  71. The fact of the matter is, Palin showed herself to be a complete fraud long ago. And we keep hoping that if she embarrasses herself further, she will finally go away. But what we should really be concerned about, is that the only reason Sarah has any voice in this country is because the media keeps on giving it to her. Now why is that?

  72. "If Barack Obama does a great job, then she will only keep a rabid, racist, group of fundies paying attention to her. But if we have another terrorist attack, or the country continues to slide toward economic disaster, then she will have her opening, and her influence will grow."

If we have another terroritst attack it has all to do with the GWB regime. They are created by the attacks on other countries. This is especially true of a situation where the war was started based on lies, greed, and crazy religious beliefs. Obama's decision on Afghanistan could increase or decrease terrorism for many on this planet, that is why it is so important to weigh all the factors.

I agree. So since we can think, it's really the up-coming generation of voters that she'd be trying to get her Lee Press-Ons into. So maybe this would be a good time for mom & dad to take a look at their public school's curriculum and demand that it be fact-based, rather than faith-based.

Because there are some very interesting donations and political hand-ups going to institutions that promote 'intelligent design' as a replacement for hard science in the classroom. I'd call that a good way to soften the ability to see fact into the acceptance of perception. Which would be a Palin thing... hmm?

I find her to be a complete joke. Its people like her that make America look bad. Is she really serious about running in 2012? Forget the whole talk of the end of the world in 2012, it would be the total destruction of america to have a president like her! She is dishonest and if she wins I am out of here, I would rather have Bush be president again than her! I would not pay 2 cents for her book! And no one else should either. Using god to make her look better or target christians is as low as anyone can get! One word Hypocrite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
