Sarah Palin in her own words with Greta Van Susteren.

Though I NEVER watch Fox News, I did watch this yesterday and was amazed. As much as it may turn your stomach, if you watch this entire interview you will have seen Sarah Palin completely unguarded. She feels safe with Greta and does not hesitate to let her insanity come out to play.

Part Two: Palin gets pissed at our President.

Part Three: Sarah demonstrates jawdropping ignorance concerning foreign affairs.

Part Four: Back on the bus with Palin, where she takes the opportunity to lie about why she quit.

Unbelievable. And this is an interview with an ardent supporter. Did you notice that Sarah accidentally admitted she is running in 2012? I did.

The word salad evident in this interview is overwhelming. Sarah has absolutely no idea what she is talking about, and, as evidenced by yesterdays video of her supporters, some people are anxious to embrace it as "being real".

This is EXACTLY how George Bush got elected, and without vigilance it could happen again.

Not that I don't do botox, but she is frozen.

and there is a slimming of the jaw, not so squarish, which was a good feature and good underpinning for ageing.

On she goes about the troops again. Well, Sarah, let me tell you something, not everyone that enters the military does so in sacrifice to self. Geezez, some go because they want a job with the possibility of 20 + year security, some want college paid for and some need training they could not afford otherwise. As a vet, I've heard and seen those reasons. She is clueless and sorry, but she does NOT get to live vicariously through her son when it comes to the service. The military is not to be used by the likes of her as some sort of huge hammer with which to smash anyone that disagrees with us. Cheney and Bush tried that and here we are today...in a quagmire. The military is the element of last resort, when all else fails. Unfortunately we now have idiots like Sarah that would bomb their way into infamy simply because they seriously lack other skills. An NO, Sarah and Daddy Chuck, fear is NOT the way to be respected. You 2 can wake up from the cold war; it's a very different day. I am so sick of these clowns ASSuming President Obama disrespects the troops. What's disrespectful is Sarah's lies and insinuations.

  3. Gryphen,
I couldn't listen to much of it, That voice grates on me and causes my little Chihuahua Chiquita to yowl and whine as if in pain. But Sarah acts like only neocons are in the army, pandering again to her base with the t-shirt...my very democratic son has served 4 tours in Iraq and voted for and fully supports our president.

OT I would like to thank you for many things. I have never met you, but if I ever do..get ready for a big hug :) You have become an advocate for sexual assault victims and now are bringing to the forefront needs of special needs kiddos. And for those things you have my undying gratitude. Each person who speaks out for the abused and neediest in our society is truly a hero. Thank you, its amazing that one person, such as yourself can help with awareness. While I realize the main reason for your blog is to out SP (and a big thanks for that) I hope every once in a while you will continue to be the advocate that you have ( maybe unwittingly) become.
One voice, one blog, aon "pajama clad" :) blogger can and does make a difference in our increasingly uninvolved society.

  9. But we won't have to worry about 2012, will we? Please say she'll be done, politically, by then. This book tour is painful. How do her pathetic fans not see how manic, impatient and nasty she is? Watch the video of her at Orange something mall in FL. Nasty, hyper, classless piece of goods. No respect for her children, her parents, her aunt, anybody. Nobody matters but numero uno.

How about you end this right now? I don't really fear Palin. I don't understand why people should. She is not qualified for the Presidency. It is simple.

But why aren't you coming out with the information on Palin? I am beginning to think you either don't have it and want people to stick around so you can rack up hits on your website. (which is sad) Or you have it and it really isn't that great.

Maybe you will confuse my motives, but this is why I say you should come forth. Levi has been completely mismanaged by Tank and Rex. Ask anyone who does not post here and that is not relatively political. "Levi who?" is basically what you get or you get "that the guy who knocked up some person's daughter?" No one knows him and no one cares. Rex and Tank have made him irrelevant. He is not going to be the piece to take her down. I have said before here and will restate: He has zero credibility. His actions don't speak like someone who general populus is going to trust.

Now for Gryphen, I have read this blog for over a year. I like your insight, but it just seems like now you are trying to hold on to readers with "Breaking Palin News!" Dangling a carrot in front of us, but it never comes out. Like the divorce story that never came to fruition.

I guess one more question, since I don't have internet access all the time. But I have read the speculation that Bristol's kid, Tripp, is not hers. How would it be possible for Levi then to go for custody if that is true? The one positive that would come out of that is that we would then find out the truth regarding Tripp. Levi either gets custody or he doesn't based on him not being the "father."

I guess I am becoming skeptical and need to be made a believer again.

    Gryphen,
I am going to have to toss this laptop out. The past day has been a SP frenzy .. she is gleeful and energized ... and enjoying the glare of attention. I have reached my limit of watching her gloat.
In that period of absence it seems she hired a speech coach ... I watched the first and a bit of the second frame .. i don't remember hearing any "also too s." and no winking. she gets her clues from her critics ... she's working on everything... we won't see her hold Trig as much either ... because it shows she does not care about him.
Her facts, however, are still glaringly wrong:
    1. this economy during the Reagan years was not worse than the one we are in now.
    2. Obama does acknowedge the sacrifices the military makes ... and he said he would not send them in to a war that was not warranted ... I remember this clearly.
    3. Her response to the question about poor Americans ... she says we are all funamentally equal and implies that we all have the same opportunity for employment .. this is b.s.

Frankly, I am terrified and uncomfortable watching her ... I need to find a way to put blinders on ...

    This is all just unbearable.

I haven't watched this train wreck as yet because I'm eating lunch and have no Maalox handy. I can say that IF she is "elected" (a la Georgie Boy) my husband and I are contemplating leaving this once-great land of ours. It'll become an unimaginable nightmare, with Queenie (and whomever is actually behind her pulling the strings) totally justified in whatever "she" does in the name of God and America. If anyone disagrees, she'll enact swift revenge, I'm sure. Notice I'm stopping short of any obvious references.

I'm going to keep opening my librul face and spouting against her to anyone who'll listen.

And IF she IS "elected" by some horrible twist of fate or Rove, we can't sit back like we did before. We MUST take to the streets!!

I am stunned by how dangerously naive and ignorant she is. She has absolutely no clue what she is talking about with regard to foreign affairs. None at all. Her "solution" to the India/Pakistan issue is for them to "forge" a friendship and hold hands against the Taliban, which she mistakenly holds accountable for the Mumbai massacre. Gee, I guess no one has EVER thought of diplomacy in the India/Pakistan problem. She's a genius!!!
Her ridiculous ignorance about "free market" principles as the solution to everything economic is so trite and half-assed that there isn't enough space here for me to comment sufficiently.
I am floored by the complete lack of susbstance this woman has that I cannot fathom how she is a force in national politics. She doesn't appear equipped to successfully run as town dog catcher.
I'll give Greta credit - no one has asked her these kinds of questions on her book tour. I think if Greta knew what a giant ass SP would look like, she might have asked her questions about huntin' and fishin' and Todd.

Good grief, the constant repetition of a few key phrases in that screechy voice and the utter lack of new approaches for the problems America faces gives me renewed gratfulness she is no longer in office.

Her statment that staying in office and doing her job was the same as quitting, and quitting is the same as "fighting for Alaska" is no less absurd than the first time she said it.

In her mind, I think she is running a political campaign, not a book signing tour. Of course, she does not have to do anything but up show up, smile, and act nicely toward her fans. Interviews with sympathic newscasters replace the need for debate with informed opponents.

If her fans pony up enough dollars to keep her in luxury while she "runs" for office, I think she could be very happy with a losing campaign.

The plot of "The Producers" was exactly about how putting on a flop could be profitable for the top three or four people.

It's obvious that this "interview" was an attempt to showcase Sarah Palin. How did they just happen to put up the clip of Reagan when she talked about Reagan? BTW, she's full of it. A lot of businesses are failing not because of taxes but because demand for their products/services is down and they are unable to obtain credit as easily as they used to. If she's so concerned about debt, why wouldn't she support a tax increase to close the gap. BTW, she doesn't mention the trillion dollar boondoggle in Iraq, and the staggering increase of the deficit under Reagan and Bush (I and II). BTW, business doesn't create jobs when taxes are reduced; they create jobs when the cost of new employees is less than the revenue the new employees will generate. Only a poorly run and marginal -- on the verge of bankruptcy -- business would create jobs because its taxes are reduced.

They are all complaining about Obama's "dithering" on Afghanistan -- a Cheneyism, by the way -- because they know that a considered appraisal of the facts could result in less funds for the military/contractor-complex. It's as simple as that .. they're driven by pure greed, not the country's interests. Interesting that she complains about deficits, but supports greater indebtedness to strengthen a military she says should be "second to none," while ignorant of the fact that weapons' development could stop for some time and the country's military would remain second to none for some time.

Weren't the "15 minutes of fame" supposed to have expired about 10 months ago?

    Anonymous @ 9:28:

If Palin is elected and you want to move, if it's not geographically out of the question, I'll help you pack.

Anniebegood: I thought Palin was the definitive lightweight--a person
of no political significance; the ultimate sideshow.

Now we have Maureen Dowd urging the President to take a play out of Palin's playbook. The immovable Gryphen violating his "No Fox ever" dictum, and you are begging for someone to give you assurance that
someone sticks the proverbial fork into her before 2012.

    Why would that be?

Is she any savvier than she was a few days ago when the one liners by
Jon Stewart and Letterman seemed to have the power of silver bullets.

Surely you haven't given up on Levi Johnston as the giantkiller.

What is the reason for your teeth gnashing?

If I were in your shoes--that is feeling absolute disgust for the woman--and Gryphen had something on her, in the interest of the public welfare, I'd think he'd come forward. Every day she can continue her slash and burn tactics puts healthcare at greater risk. It opens the door for more innocents to be seduced--just like in Nazi Germany.

Now, if someone had something that could have stopped Hitler cold before he could get a toehold in the hearts and minds of the German people, would YOU have used it against him or been constrained by "confidentiality".

Would you rather be remembered as the woman who made a preemptive strike against the ultimate deaths of millions or the person who believed "confidentiality" to be the higher moral law?

Which would you be the more noble course: maintaining confidentiality
or risking breaching it even if it meant the end of your career but by doing so you saved the country from falling into the hands of a tyrant?

I'm not asking you to decide what is protected and what is not. I'd simply like to know that if YOU were in possession of information that could save this country from a leader that could destroy it, would you go public, piss off your sources, but spare incalculable suffering?

You'll have to summarize for me because I cannot contaminate my soul with her actual hateful words and mean voice any longer. She is awwwwful. Scary. Vacuous. Mean. and yes, per Bitney, a sociopath.

Mainly, today, though, I'd like to know why the comments from Mr. Mitchell posted through Mudflats and Huffington Post re: the alleged Sarah Palin/Brad Hanson affair have NOT made it to the top of the news, and whether or not she or her lawyer have attacked Mr. Mitchell about this.

We all need to be very wary that this person with no apparent brains or soul doesn't keep getting RESPECT from the media. She DOES NOT DESERVE RESPECT. She needs to be publically called out on each and every one of her lies, both professional and private issues. She wants people to think she is worthy of admiration personally? Then her character is fair game to be attacked.

And, she looks like 45 years old going on 60. She has aged tremendously and the gobs of makeup are making it worse.

I know this is upsetting to watch as she single-handedly displays/exemplifies the problems and holes within our system of government -- as she shouldn't ever have been allowed to run for VP and most certainly shouldn't be allowed to run for P.

But I honestly believe that she's hanging herself. What's to fear? Let her talk. And talk. The only people who will hear her are her base. Remember, she started out at the RNC wtih a lot of female support (PUMA). That quickly shifted.

Those women are never going to trust her again.

    She can't expand her base.

She's a dangerous sociopath, who could endanger the well being of this country. OR does endanger the well-being of this country.

But she will never be the P.
Every interview she does, she LOSES support.

You know how her fans always crow about her FB supporters? Well, I cruised over there yesterday and guess who's pictures I saw on the front page as her friends? Three of MY friends who despise her!

Saw this interview last night on Fox. Several things came out at me, including the high-pitched irritation in her voice, and almost yelling at Greta. It was like she was seething underneath. Must have been time for her meds.

And, it's very embarassing to hear her raise "solutions" on Afghanistan/Pakistan relations. They have been neighbors for centuries. Their understanding of eath other's culture and values are so much different than ours. Sarah claims, "they need to know this and that.....blah, blah, blah." The woman is not an ambassador, diplomat, and it's shameful to watch her spill out these simplistic points on a bus, on a million dollar tour, on American soil, where her right to promote herself is protected by the US military, and their allies, who we all hold dear.

I think even Greta was a bit annoyed.

I believe since Palin is calling for " no Press " at many of her events. Also asking the prefered people who are being allowed to quizz or interview her...that they put their questions in writing BEFORE INTERVIEWS and such. Yes, after listening and watching these four clips, I believe Greta gave Palin the list of what questions she would be asking. So Palin studied them and prepared for this interview. Otherwise Sarah Palin would have done her usual type interview of misunderstanding those questions. Greta has been a fervent butt kissing fan of Palin since day one...and as one can see, Greta still is fawning and butt kissing her idol Sarah Palin.

Sarah is more snarky than usual in her interview with Gretta.

  54. Anonymous11:59 AM

Hilary Rosen was on Joy Behar's program last week as Sarah's book first came out. Hilary, who has worked on numbers of campaigns and is often on TV as an advocate for the Democratic party had some words of wisdom regarding Sarah's possible run in 2012.

After the way that Sarah trashed Steve Schmidt, Nicole Wallace, and everyone else who ever spoke a harsh word to Sarah, it would be next to impossible to get people to work for her. They would surely understand that in a moment's notice, they, too, would be in the next book.

Sarah has poor organizational skills. That on-again off-again stuff with the speeches, and advisors telling her that wasn't "cute," that she should get organized is an indication of her organizational skills.

Another problem for Sarah is sticking to the same job, staying on message and not lettting criticism and fact checking get to her. She has the thinnest skin in politics. Bloggers post that Trig shouldn't be barefoot, and the next thing you know, he's got his shoes on.

The most frightening prospect of Sarah running for president is the people who will be backing her. This time it will be conservative, fundamentalist, evangelical religious fanatics. And, their agenda is very much at odds with our Constitution, regarding the separation of Church and State. That will most likely be the first rule of law that they revoke. Then, we'll have a rebirth of the Inquisition. First the motto will be "Palin 2012," followed by "Convert or Die."

  56. On Palin's ties to Scientology through Van Susteren and husband John P. Coale:

Last spring I wrote "Palin might prefer to run, or might be forced to run as a third party candidate if she hopes to run for high office. That requires either a personal fortune or supporters with deep pockets as demonstrated by H Ross Perot in 1996. With high unemployment and a depression looming, and the favor of a Third Party candidate that is in sore need of advice and financial backing, could John P. Coale, David Miscavage and Scientology finally be positioned to realize their long nurtured ambitions to infiltrate Washington by backing a contender for President? Could Palin's party, whether Republican or a Third Party splinter group, possibly become the party of Scientology as well?"

To read further on this: (skip to Part 7 of this article)

    http://nailinpalinnow.blogspot.com/2009/04/palins-coale-keeps-scientologys.html

And if you think this is just wild speculation, please read Part 6 of this article on how Scientology successfully influenced US Foreign policy under the Clinton administration, then tell me that Palin could not be subject to the same types of pressures. Or worse.

Well, Gryphen, I didn't watch those videos, but I surely appreciate your posting them here for all to see. I prefer a summation, like Anonymous @9:44, thanks! Like your reading of that book for the group; others are doing the same. She has become too much of a distraction.

Anonymous @9:24 sorta reflects my sentiments. I read a comment posted at palingates that spoke of people worshipping at her feet in heaven, I think I am saying that right. It was posted at Bree's blog, too. And I heard of a picture on the internet with her image as Jesus on the cross, but I am not sure. Bad enough I saw her image as a cherub. Sure made me think about those images I remember of Jim Jones and David of Waco. Gryphen, did that book contain the name of Jesus at all?

Anyway, changing the subject, I am shocked that any publisher or parent would allow children to travel on a book tour. The baby has a known disability and BW said there was a hole in his heart that might require surgery. Is that true? Then the best interests of that baby have been ignored. Is it in the best interests of a child to be among a group of adults 24/7? What about watching an interview where the parent discussed adult topics, even about sexual issues of family members?

Oh well, thanks for letting me rant, and for sharing those videos!

  80. First 10 seconds of Part 1, leading GVS to the side of The Big Blue Bus: "See my big picture? NO WRINKLES!!"

How cute, ANOTHER backhanded slap at Katie Couric, aided and abetted by GVS. That weird lump is still in front of her right ear.

It's obvious she went to the hairdresser; her hair color is back to all brown, and she's obviously not wearing the multicolored wig. I'll bet she got her hair tinted back to brown to match that curly little animal she's clapped at the top of her head -- it must be more expensive than it looked.

She quickly corrected herself from "our Federal government will quit taxing those who are creating the jobs....er, not quit taxing, but reduce the taxes and start incentivizing small businesses especially..."

Oooo, I was wondering when she'd get around to "reduce the capital gains tax on corporations...oh, and small businesses too (oops, almost forgot!)"

When GVS pointed out the diverse needs of folks in our various states and Palin answered her, I thought I accidentally re-set the video back to 5:10 because Palin responded with exactly the same thing again, starting at 5:40.

Oh, God, she LIKES the status quo with "the very poor" using emergency rooms for their health care! "That is that compassionate heart of the American people...and of our government." Aaaack!

"The very rich for the most part are business owners, small business owners, who are creating the jobs. If taxes rise so rapidly on a small business creating jobs, they're just going to move their wealth elsewhere..."

They already do, and they have for YEARS, you ignorant twit! It has little to do with taxes, but a lot to do with PROFIT.

Geez, if someone could get this woman to READ something instead of forcefeeding her neocon talking points, she might take a look at an article from last July in the NY Times:

"[Y]esterday’s tax code, unlike today’s, had separate marginal tax rates for the truly wealthy and the merely affluent. For a married couple in 1960, for example, the 38 percent tax bracket started at $20,000, which is about $145,000 in today’s terms. The top bracket of 91 percent began at $400,000, which is the equivalent of nearly $3 million now….

Today, by contrast, the very well-off and the superwealthy are lumped together. The top bracket last year started at $357,700. Any income above that — whether it was the 400,000th dollar earned by a surgeon or the 40 millionth earned by a Wall Street titan — was taxed the same, at 35 percent. This change is especially striking, because there is so much more income at the top of the distribution now than there was in the past. Today a tax rate for the very top earners would apply to a far larger portion of the nation’s income than it would have years ago.

I CAN'T LISTEN TO ANY MORE OF THIS WOMAN'S IDIOCY. Please, someone else summarize the other Parts of the interview!

"I can say that IF she is "elected" (a la Georgie Boy) my husband and I are contemplating leaving this once-great land of ours."

"I swear, if that twit gets elected to our highest office, I will renounce my citizenship"

I thought of that, during the Bush misAdministration, but decided then I would just become a victim of his foreign policy. If I stay American, I can fight from within.

Seriously? I used to think that I might die in the streets, shot while performing a nonviolent act of civil disobedience as political protest. If Palin is ever elected to our highest office, I'll be thinking that way again. It's not paranoia when they really are trying to get you.

In my calmer moments, I think Sarah couldn't get elected. She seems to have a congenital lack of abaility to organize. From the PTA members who complained that she'd sign up for everything and not follow through to her Quitter speech, she's all mouth, and no competence. I am cautiously optimistic. Too much is known about Sarah amongst the republicans. If she tries, I think they'll be the ones to oppose her. And she won't be able to hire qualified staff: the McCain campaign had a bunch of them, and they are now telling the world that she's lying about them. No sane person would want to be hired to work a campaign if the candidate had a history of blatant lying about staff.

That, of course, brings up the question about the not-sane people who like Sarah but can't articulate any of her policy positions. They may apply for jobs with her campaign, and even get them, but do they know how to do them? Sarah doesn't hire qualified people: that was the problem with her whole administration.

I remain cautiously optimistic, slightly disbelieving at the lies some people are willing to believe, and slightly frustrated at the hints of a HUGE scandal that nobody is willing to talk about.

Seriously. Levi knows something that will take her down. Kathy Griffin, who became friends with him and is smart as a whip, agrees, and won't say anything; Andrew Sullivan says it's a HUGE scandal... as do you, Gryphen... and nobody whispers.

Somebody ought to just bite the bullet and announce it. Get it out into the open. Dare Sarah to demonstrate its falsity.

I've only watched Part 1. Can only watch her in small doses.

Her comment as to taxing the rich - 'They'll take their businesses elsewhere'. Really Sarah - What rock have you been under - Bush already did that. He sat back and watched while the telemarketing, the textile industry, the digital/technical industry, name any manufacturing/service industry. He sat back watching education failing. Yet he stepped up and gave the leaders of these sectors whopping tax cuts all of which created jobs -- In India, In Indonesia, In Thailand -- I could name all the countries in the mid-East - but not in the US.

So the more she spews, the deeper she digs her own grave.

I'd chip in to win the chance to give the last kick to push her in. With pleasure!

To continue spewing more tax cuts - those the 'rich' business owners/corporations get are still in force and being used/received by them to continue lining their own pockets so quit spewing BULL SHIT Sarah.

And oh by the way -- Where's your unemployed husband Sarah? No where to be seen on the tour carrying around Trig. He's got all the time in the world now since he too is a "quitter" since he quit the slope.

Seems to be the Palin family characteristic -- Both parents are 'QUITTERS'

Palin looks at things as a challenge, but once attained is bored. Note her climb from her appointment by Murkowski, to Mayor, to Governor, to failed VP.

I named 4 challenges. She attained 3 and quit all three before her term was up to move to the next challenge. In doing so, she cares not about the collateral damage.

She failed at attaining the VP Office and therefore is still focused on that except she has moved the stakes higher to President as she doesn't have to wait for phone call for the invite from the old dog now.

As people have set out the joke bumper stickers sayings:
    PALIN 2012 - 2014 1/2

It too would be the run for the challenge, then boredom within a short timeframe, but where would she be able to go from there. She has a definite problem as she won't attain the President's office no matter how many attempts she thinks she can make. The more she goes at it, she'll get worse than what she is now as for us it would be frustrating, but imagine for her as she doesn't believe anyone can tell her no. She would self desruct.

I use to work in the book biz. I remember hearing once that when a book sold a million copies, it meant the stores ordered a million, not that the consumers bought a million. The million does not take into account all of the books that are returned after the 3 month sell time. (most publishers will take back what you do not sell after 3 months if you order the books 'returnable')

So what I am hoping is that after 90 days, Harper Collins' will have truck loads of returns. (especially from the stores that had to order 2500 copies to get the queen to appear)

I doubt we'll ever know how many copies people really bought of GR, but I have a little comfort knowing the publishers inflate the numbers.

  108. It's about time: Keith Olbermann just had a really good piece on Sarah Palin and the Assemblies of God, as well as the significance of
"the Rapture", Billy Grahams role as a promoter of Rapture theology, and the significance of Palin asking Graham about what the Bible has to say on Iran, Iraq, and Israel. Good point that she apparently intends to GET HER FOREIGN POLICY FROM THE BIBLE! That is really scary. She was also telling Barbara Walters about how Israel needs to be allowed to build more settlements for all the Jews that will be streaming into Israel from all over the world, again more Rapture theology. Of couse also according to that theology, some Jews will convert to Christianity but the rest will die in the battle of Armageddon, going to hell of course after since they would not be saved Christians. So it's not exactly a rosy picture for the Jews.
For those who do not already know this, this is why there is such strong support for Israel by conservative Christian elements in this country, and why they will never criticize anything that Israel does.
This type fundamentalism that has been so heavily promoted by the "Left Behind" series of books, and earlier by the Scofield Study and by the Moody Bible College, is NOT a straightforward reading of the Bible but is a very new development in the history of Christianity, cropping up in the 1800s and based in part on "prophetic dreams" of of a teenage girl. Most churches consider it a heresy.
This is all from memory, I might have a small detail or two wrong here, but overall this is the truth about this movement. This system of belief has been preached in certain circles for years, and recently the "Left Behind" books have introduced it to many people who do not know the Bible or traditional Christianity very well, and just assume that the Rapture theology is a mainstream belief system. It is not.
Thanks Keith for covering this. Next you might want to cover some more about how she is connected to a movement that wants to take over government and turn it into a theocracy.

Cammie: You are right, there is jaw-dropping idiocy here and you are its author

"Why would India waste one moment fighting the Taliban for Pakistan?"

That's suggestive that you lack any awareness of an important triangulation in the region: that between Russia, India and Pakistan.

Last spring, (March?) India and Russia agreed to shore up their fight against the Taliban in Afghanistan which represents a threat to the national security of both nations.

Russia also agreed to assist India in expanding the latter's civil
    nuclear energy programs.

At the SAME time, Russia in a joint effort with China has been involved in helping Pakistan meet its energy needs through the development of
additional nuclear plants. Russia would also help Pakistan modernize its rail system.

Russia, as a quid pro quo, called on leaders of both nations
to address the volatile situation in Afghanistan which remains a threat
to the development of India and Pakistan and as such, a threat to Russia's economy and strategic interests in the area.

Thus, Russia (and China) are doing precisely what Palin advises the U.S. to do with respect to Indo-Pakistani relations: employ its status as a super power to demonstrate there are significant practical advantages to be made if India and Pakistan can get on the same page to combine resources to drive out the Taliban and destroy it.

    Get it now?

You may want to recheck your bean counting. Harper Collins is now on target to have 2.5 Million copies. Now, if Palin's returns reach the industry average for "best sellers" (30%), that still leaves 1,700,000 unreturned.

Practically speaking, as far as your concerned, it's irrelevant whether anyone reads the book. The crucial issue is that HC believes it is a good risk to take and is committed to cranking out millions of copies.

Publishing is worlds different than the film industry where you make the movie after sinking a hundred mill into a movie only to watch it tank. A publisher has the advantage of monitoring sales and then deciding whether or not to push more money into the pot.

They may guess wrong with unknown authors but with celebs of Palin's
stature and first-week sales nothing will compromise the status of this book as a mega-blockbuster.

    Sucks, but true.

Keith Olbermann, Levi johnston, and Andrew Sullivan.

Now there's an alliance that must strike fear in Palin.

Has Sullivan gotten his hands on the amniocentesis report yet?

I think you can leave foreign policy decisions to Obama, 5;32. He's our President and he's making actual decisions.

It's kind of like governing from facebook, only you hve real responsibilities.

And by the way, Obama had a state dinner tonight with the head of India, so I think he's got this one in hand. He doesn't need advice from Palin, who's never even been to India, doesn't know anything about it, and has no inclination or patitude for diplomacy.

  114. Gryphen,

Thank you for slogging through this excruciating interview and posting it. I watch it and listen to it with horror.
    Why horror?
There are many people in the US that relish simplisitic approaches to problem solving. These people think it is easy. If it were this easy, President Obama would be a national hero.
Yes, I gagged watching most of it:
    I am paraphrasing:
Poor people with limited skills and no education can be hired for jobs as long as the government reduces taxes for corporations and small business owners.
Sarah: Read the want ads. The ads are short and to the point. The minimum qualifications are a HS diploma with the ability to speak, write, and read English. Today, more and more businesses are looking for college degrees.
    India and Pakistan:
Sarah, yes, all they have to do is meet and forged a friendship to defeat the Taliban. My God, wasn't this simple? I am so surprise that President Obama didn't think of this. Thank you for your insight. You might try reading about these nations' culture and history before you speak with such authority.Could you explain the reasons France and England don't always agree?
FYI: Sarah... President Obama did not hire General McCrystal, he was part of the armed forces (Sarah, Part I)
As far as listening to him, what the hell do you think he is doing?
Sarah: Check the facts. This recession is different from the one that occurred in the 1980's. Different recessions need different solutions and you don't have any.
Finally: OT Using your son who has downs syndrome as a prop is appalling. Here he is bare legged and feet at midnight with a sweatshirt thrown over him. He does have arms, you know. Edgar Bergen had more caring for his "dummy" Charlie McCarthy than you do for this child.
Its amazing, Lyndon Johnson received hell from U.S. citizens for picking up one of his beagels by the ears, yet nary a sound is heard (except for Alaskan bloggers) for treating a child with developmental disabilities or any child, so poorly.

I could go on but it has already been said by people "who are in the know".
To my dear Alaska Bloggers: Don't give up the fight! Keep sending those important message about her to all in the US.

  116. @05:48,

Palin is too busy enjoying her manic episode and adoration of her fans to be paying much attention to anything else right now. But this tour will send and KO, Johnston, and Sullivan will still be there. It's a long time till 2012. I had thought she was just a grifter who was going to milk this for all it's worth, but I am starting to think she really does want to run in 2012. But she'll never hold it together that long. And now that she's rapidly aging and has the money to keep on getting plastic surgery, botox, etc etc, she may already be unrecognizable by the primaries.

She is getting more "bold" in her interviews the past few days, which will not do her any favors with sane Americans. She's also looking worse by the day. All these different wigs and the heavy eyeliner is not helping. Why is is that she seems to have learned nothing from the hair and makeup assistance she received during the McCain campaign?

Palin has already managed to reveal she is obsessed with certain blogs in particular. She's changed her behavior already quite a few times in reaction to criticisms on the blogs. Which is fortunate for poor Trig, as she actually had his glasses on him once, and has now had Piper carry him onto stage a couple of times, an improvement since Palin herself seems to be the only one who can't hold that child in a way that looks at all comfortable for him. You get the idea she hasn't been holding him much at all before this book tour.

And her book shows that she holds grudges for years about the smallest things. Part of the reason she had trouble governing Alaska was that she was too busy wasting time harassing the likes of Trooper Wooten and bitching about her critics. And firing off angry emails to the ADN because, well, they weren't smooching her butt quite as much as she felt was proper. Seems like a great temperament for a head of state. Yeah, I AM being sarcastic with that last line.

When even Greta starts seeming disillusioned her, you know it's getting bad. Bill O'Reilly seemed to enjoy her legs and heels, her potential as the Commander in Chief not so much...

Palin may well be the one who brings her own self down. I cannot imagine a better way for her to be brought back down to earth.

Her resentment that there's a black man in the white house (instead of hers) is really showing.

She's clueless about world affairs, what a VP does, even about what she does or doesn't read, and she's talking about a Nobel Peace Prize Winner "dithering"? Has she been debriefed and met with her cabinet? Who's fridge magnets has she been plagiarizing?

That entire interview was pre-planned and she STILL can't get anything right. The only thing she's reloading is her salad shooter. And I resent her using "Patriotism" as her salad dressing.

Anon at 5:44: There is something in publishing called "velocity." It applies to how fast a book sells. If you regularly watch the bestseller lists, you'll have noticed that some books shoot up to the top of the lists and then fall off very rapidly. That's because they have "velocity" but not a lot of staying power. For instance, readers of certain romance writers are famous for rushing out and buying their favorite authors as soon as the new book is released. Those devoted fans will push the romance author to the top of the list, but there aren't enough of them to keep her there for long. Contrast this to someone like, say, Pat Conroy, who might not hit as high on the list but will stay there for months and months, long after the romance writer's shooting star is gone.

I suspect we'll see the same thing with Going Rogue. You can be sure that all the Palinbots ran out and bought the book the instant it was released--hell, they preordered it. Her sales in the first week or two will be huge (because the counting lags, she didn't appeared on last Friday's list). But I have no doubt we'll see her sales nose dive very quickly. Virtually everyone who is going to buy that book will have bought it by the time her book tour is over.

It is not at all unusual to have returns of 50 or even 75%. All those stores that ordered 2,500 copies to get her to schedule an appearance will be sending 1,500-2,000 of those copies back. That's not going to be good for her sell-through rate.

Think about how much Harper Collins has sunk into this book tour: two buses, drivers, jet, pilot and crew, accommodation and meals for 10-20 people (mom and pop and Aunt Katie, too!), security, full page ads in newspapers along the route. And then there's the coop (the money the publisher pays to get a book at the front of the store). The biggest promo budget in publishing history was for The Da Vinci Code. I've no doubt this blitz beat him by millions.

HC is going to lose a fortune over this. It's just Murdoch's underhanded way of contributing to her political career.

I don't blame the previous poster (anon: incentivise OMG) for not recognizing "incentivise" right away. Palin used it as a buzzword so many times in so many interviews that my first reaction was that she had made up a word for her word salad.

I'm very literate and I still double checked it in the dictionary. (oh wait, did I just do opposition research?)

Goodness! What political savvy she has! I believe President Obama should appoint her Commonsense Czar. Or, perhaps Ambassador at Large for Commonsense World Solutions. Why, she could just go on over there (wherever "over there" is) and get these people talkin'! That's all it takes, for goodness sakes!

    Grrr...

  121. You all hate Sarah so much, but have you stopped to think about why she is so popular? It' because Americans are sick to death of paying tax after tax for no rational reason. Take the Estate Tax. Here is a tax that kills jobs and small businesses, contributes $12 Billion a year to the bottom lines of life insurance companies in a sick form of IRS mandated corporate welfare, and has never produced more than 1.5% of the federal budget.
We need jobs, we need small businesses, we are sick of companies like AIG getting taxpayer money. Get all the facts at www.estatetaxtruth.org
No matter what you think of Palin, she is speaking to the people, ans they are listening.

  122. Oh wow, I was going to be objective and really listen to this interview. I can't stand it. I can't listen to it. It makes no sense, it is word salad. I really tried but I would rather listen to a rerun of something else than this crap. She really appears stupider the more she talks. Her talk makes something happen in my brain, I can't explain it, I just want it off.
When we capture terrorists, we should play these interviews over and over, I bet they would crack quickly.

[Anyone absorbing this web piece covering Palin etc. will know more about the "rapture" fly-away than most theologians seem to know! - Harrold]

    PRETRIB RAPTURE RUSTLERS

To see the long hidden side of the 179-year-old, British-invented-and-American-merchandised, apocalyptic "rapture" mania, Google "Pretrib Rapture Diehards," "Thomas Ice (Bloopers)" (the sloppy copyist "genius" that Lindsey, LaHaye and other "rapture" tycoons lean on!), "LaHaye's Temperament," "America's Pretrib Rapture Traffickers," "Edward Irving is Unnerving," "Thieves' Marketing," "Appendix F: Thou Shalt Not Steal," "The Newest Pretrib Calendar," "The Rapture Index (Mad Theology)," "Roots of (Warlike) Christian Zionism" and "Pretrib Rapture Dishonesty," for starters. The author of these items plus the bestselling nonfiction book "The Rapture Plot" (available online) is journalist/historian Dave MacPherson who has uniquely focused for 40 years on the bizarre history of this endtime craze which is anti-Jewish, anti-Catholic and anti- just about everyone else! MacPherson is the "Pretrib Rapture Answerman" who has researched throughout Britain and aired so much rapturesque "dirty linen" that he's found behind the scenes (clever revisionism of early 19th century documents, rampant plagiarism, phony doctorates, Swaggart-type scandals etc.) that he is now No. 1 on the hate lists of the leading "rapture" money-changers! As everyone's black, dust-covered book says, "There is nothing hidden that won't be revealed...." (PS: Google "Pretrib Hypocrisy" for stun gun shocks about the Assemblies of God with whom there's a Sarah Palin connection!)
