This from Palin's book tour stop in Iowa, which unbelievably seems to be inspiring talk of a presidential run in 2012. No seriously.
I am sorry but seeing an image of Abraham Lincoln, the man who united a nation, clutching a book by Sarah Palin, the woman who is one of the most divisive people on the planet, is an insult to the memory of Abraham Lincoln and should make school children all over this country weep.
Just take a listen to what some of her supporters list as reason to support a possible run for president.
"She's a down-to-earth person who will fight against the government," Millage said. "I can see her out there fishing with the guys. Plus, she's hot."
Is that what the American people are looking for in a President? An attractive, fish slaying President who will fight her own government? Well now that's intelligent.
"I think she's one of the few individuals who can whip Congress into shape," said Grant Buldhaupt, who drove nearly four hours from Des Moines. "She's conservative, and she can stop the runaway government spending."
Where do they get this? Palin was a terrible governor, who never had a handle on ANYTHING. She was slow to respond to a crisis, difficult to work with when she did not get total agreement, and more interested in self-promotion then doing the job she was elected to do. In her book she blames her political difficulties on the ethics charges, but those came in RESPONSE to her failings, they were not the CAUSE of her failings.
This over the top fawning around Caribou Barbie might be explained by this fact.
Iowa's Republican caucuses have been increasingly dominated by social and religious conservatives like Palin. Many strategists noted that her book-signing event was in Republican-dominated western Iowa, which would likely be her base if she ran.
"In Iowa Republican politics, the more populist and religious conservatives are in control," Drake University political science professor Dennis Goldford said. "They adore her."
And that just about sums it up. The people who line up to support her are only interested in putting an uber-religious leader into the White House. They simply do not care about competence or integrity, and that is a very troubling thing indeed.

But Gryphen, that's the problem that I have with Sarah's base. They think that she is an uber-religious leader because she is anit-abortion and against gay marriage but she is not. I wouldn't not doubt if Sarah has had an abortion as well as Bristol. She definitely doesn't follow all of the ten commandments of God considering it is said that she committed adultery, we know she bears false witness and stole tax payers money by charging per diem while staying in her own house. I just find it hard to believe that people who say that they are 'real Christians' can't see through this lady.

I spoke to an Alaskan this past weekend, who really thinks Sarah is great. I asked him why. He said, she seemed to get things done. He had met Murkowski and didn't like him, and voted for Sarah. He was very disappointed that she quit. I tactfully told him about - Troopergate and Dairygate, as I could speak from personal experience, knowing the innocent players. He said, wow, most voters don't go that deep into learning about politicians, they listen to issues that resonate with their personal beliefs, and the personality of the candidate. For the last year, he hasn't been aware of the issues we know about Sarah. It was a positive discussion. He went away from it enlightened about the real Sarah. Had I not spoken to him, he would have still have thought Sarah was great. We also talked about the millions of dollars she wasted on AGIA- the proposed gasline, and how hard-working legislators made her look good while she was governor. She does not have any fiscal expertise. (Didn't she get a D in economics in college?) So, if some Alaskans are still unaware of her lack of ability, surely, people from out of state are going to think she is great. aargh! What do we do?!

As in so much else, Sarah has been incredibly lucky in this. She burst onto the national scene as the vice presidential candidate, not a presidential candidate, which meant that no one really looked at her record, no one really went after her, and so she was allowed to create this false image. Once a false image is implanted in people's minds, it is very, very hard to dislodge.
ReplyDeleteIt's not hard to be a seen as a "good" governor when you've only been in office less than two years and the good times are rolling. Again, she was lucky; she got out of there before the shit started piling up too high around her. She was a horrid mayor of Wasilla; how the hell did she manage to overcome that and get elected governor? Yet by doing so, it makes the casual observer assume she must have been a good mayor,too.
The press should have gone after the details, and some of it did get out there, but not with enough of a presence to overcome the false image put out there by the McCain camp, which was so much more attractive to the media--the pretty, huntin', fishin', runnin' mom.
As for her creds with the wingnuts, they obviously don't know that she had to ask McCain what her position was on abortion and sex education!

Her book signing events are anywhere a bookstore will commit to buying 2500 books. She had an opportunity to appear at a must-do, republican event in Iowa earlier this year and declined to do so. There is a lot of wishful thinking in this "appeared in Iowa so is going to run speculation." She appeared for the dollars.

The Trig's birth story had spread, more lies in the book had been revealed, Sarah continued to incriminate herself in interviews ... but then we ended the week with her speaking in Washington, D.C. and being referred to as the most important person in the world. I feel sick and scared. Then Andrew Halcro teases us that his Friday post was going to "get serious." But Friday's post turned out to be about a cupcake, literally. Subsequently, I read that someone has alluded to being Andrew Halcro's secret, or something to that effect. I felt that he was about to expose and also to perhaps levy a charge of libel against Palin. Has he been scared off? Nothing from him now the rest of the weekend.

I was in Iowa for the last 4 days and my sis and I went into a local book store and there was her idiot tome. Sooooo, being me I said out loud "Oh look, an idiot book full of lies to be read by all the idiots that love living lies and think the National Enquirer is an encyclopedia!" Hah! Sis and I laughed and 1 older lady gave me "the look" so I asked her if she had an eye problem and suggested that she should see an ophthalmologist about that but the other 5 people cracked up laughing. As soon as she hit the national stage I told my wife she was elected governor because of the man to woman ratio in Alaska. What is it 6 to 1? She was elected by a bunch of horny men. Sarah, however, never said what CBJ advised and, in fact, ADN quoted CBJ as saying Sarah never asked for permission to fly. CBJ looks to be in the clear for the wild ride.

ReplyDeleteWhile I agree that your home state of Iowa is red, very conservative, but Iowans are also (for the most part) highly educated. I doubt very much that many of them cannot see through the grifter. While I have never lived there I have met many Iowans and my overall impression is hard working , conservative, but very well read and educated.
The pic of Abe is an abomination, Pres Lincoln stood for and was worried about keeping church and state separated.

There are SarahPAC types slagging the unenthusiastic reviews of $P's book at Amazon.com. One in particular loves to point out, over and over, that $P is another Honest Abe. Her name is Audrey Ihrig--Google connected her to SarahPAC in a trice. Ihrig also slagged a one-star reviewer who bought the book from Amazon and clearly read it as "one of the people who would have cheered when Jesus was nailed to the cross." I'm paraphrasing, because Amazon took the comment down when I went back to check it. Not the thing one forgets in a hurry.

My husband and I have a close group of friends who are highly intelligent and well-read. Whenever I mention Palin (and I have been since August 29th of last year.) they look at me like I have an extra head on my shoulders. Why don't they believe what I tell them? Simple, "If what you say is true, why hasn't the media reported on it?"
This brings me to the greatest scandal of all:the failure of our press.
Months ago an iceberg was predicted. Apparently it melted over the summer or Gryphen is as full of BS as SP. In my opinion, Gryphen has some "splaining" to do.
On the other hand, maybe Gryphen is being used. If in fact SP does read these blogs as everyone seems to think, all of the ranting and raving and inaction is pure and simple enabling. Her mouthpiece is leaking items to make Gryphen mad and he reacts accordingly. Sarah is Teflon - nothing sticks and she will take attention any way she can get it.
Andrew Sullivan is the next best hope because he is high profile and does careful research. If I were king, I would schedule a personal appointment and let him meet the Alaskan bloggers one on one.
You could even put up a little pay pal link to buy him a first class R/T ticket to Alaska.
Remember what Frank Rich of the NYT said a couple of weeks ago. SP may not be electible, but she could pave the way for a clone with less baggage. American is facing something very akin to its own Taliban.
Lastly, I live in St.Petersburg Florida which is the home of the St. Pete Times.
Recently, the SPT did an enormous well- researched week long piece on Scientology. (One of Scientology's headquarters in in Clearwater just 15 miles north of St. Pete.) The SPT really went out on a limb with investigative journalism as the Scientologist take no prisoners. (I predict a Pulitzer Prize.)
Everyone who reads this should "storm" the editor, offer to tell what they know and call attention to the Palin effect. Gryphen, tell me what you know and I'll personally get the message across.

It occurs to me sometimes that perhaps Sarah herself is being used. There's a chance, ever so slight, that she could run for Prez in 2012, but I think it's quite possible that she'll almost get there and then the nomination will go to someone else, particularly if the movers and shakers in the Republican party suspect that she actually can't handle it.

(Imagine what would happen to her career if she suddenly had a disfiguring car accident or a botched plastic surgery or something else that screwed up her looks.)
In 2012 when they tell her they're nominating someone else, they'll get her closest religious adviser to tell her to stay home with her kids, 'cuz that's what God wants. And then she will finally realize how she's been used.
