Palin book signing at Elmendorf Air Force base.

I have to imagine that when Sarah requested that this book signing be closed to the public it was probably people like myself and my fellow Alaskan bloggers that she had in mind. Unfortunately for Sarah she seems to not be aware that we are the "new media" and keeping us out is simply not an option. You betcha! Nice try though.

So let me start off with a compliment. I am not always looking for the negative after all.

I thought Sarah looked quite fetching today. Her hair looked good and she was smartly dressed.

It even looks like her surgery scars were completely healed. See I can be nice.

I looked around to see who all had come with her. I saw Mama and Papa Heath, big brother Chuck Jr., Willow, and a very bored looking Piper.

No Bristol. No Todd. And even favorite Palin prop Trig was nowhere to be seen. Hmmm odd.

If you look in the picture above you will also see that there was still no wedding ring. (Haven't they dredged that lake yet?)

Here is the whole famn damily. Chuck Sr., Chuck Jr., and Sally Heath were showing their support and posing for pictures with the teabaggers and Palinista's after they had received their autograph.

I talked to Chuck Sr. and he said that Billy Graham's plane had flown Sarah and family to a "few places" along the book tour, but that Harper Collins had flown them up here for this event. Since when do "bus tours" involve multiple planes as well?

Today Piper got to play "Fidel Castro hat wearing socialist" instead of mom.

I think it looks cuter on Piper. But boy was this kid bored.

And so was this kid. Willow looked like she wanted to be just about anyplace else in the world rather than standing in this mall watching people fawn over her mother. You and me both kiddo.

I talked to a number of people in the line. Every single one of them were gaga over Sarah.

I asked them what they liked best about Sarah, and almost every one cited the fact that she was "honest". No I did not type that wrong, they actually believe her to be honest! Then I followed up by asking if they had read her book. NONE of them had actually read the damn thing yet. I wish I could go back for a follow up interview after they finish it, and ask them "Do you think she is honest NOW?"

I tried to find out from the very cordial female soldier in charge of this event if Palin had been invited or not, but she did not know. I also asked if it was common for the base to have authors on to sign their books. She said that it sometimes happened and cited Mary Tillman, Pat Tillman's mom, and C.B. "Sully" Sullenberger as two examples. However she said they had never had a crowd as large as this one.

I kid you not, some of these people waited outside this place for up to four hours to have their book signed by Caribou Barbie. Almost all of the people in line were from out of state, but I did find three Alaskans from, you guessed it, Wasilla. And pretty much each and every one of them thought having Palin run for president in 2012 was a great idea.

I bet this guy felt the same way.

Damn, what is wrong with these people?

Willow seems to be quite the sullen teenager. Can't blame her except for the story of the 13-year-old who got yelled at by adults and stared down by Willow for wearing an Obama t-shirt to the signing. I guess it's pretty impossible to be raised by Sarah Palin and be a pleasant person.

Why so many out of state people? Do you mean out of state as in service members who are not from Alaska? If that's what you mean, then I can see it, but non-residents? What?

Piper is a little cutie pie. I hope that she has a shot at a normal childhood sometime soon -- I mean playing with friends outside & at school, baking cookies with mom/grandma/dad/whoever, doing arts & crafts, watching the disney channel, etc, etc -- all of those things that my girls do in some form or other every single day.

Gryhp - you are such a guy! Fetching she is not - her soul is putrid slime and it shines through in every unhealthy Red Bull soaked pore she has.

Plastic surgery is her only option with its near instant gratification - much easier than a healthy lifestyle. I hope she continues down the path of the vain demagogue - her stamina will fail with her health and that's OK by me! So fortunate for her that she believes in the Rapture - it's a much more romantic thought than a quickly deteriorating body.

Love the pics by Dennis. Willow looks to be quite the Diva in training JMO!
Kim Chatman tweeted on Diva's blog her daughter got harassed for wearing a OBAMA T-shirt???
    WTF?

  9. I think Piper is tired of drinking the kool aid...she looks like she's coming around. Hi Piper....we are here for you! I think the entire dysfunctional family is fed up. Can you imagine what family life is like? I bet I know where poor old Trig was...with Bristol. When they arrived on the scene during the election I thought the kids seemed weird & world weary....they were. I can only imagine how horrible their lives have been. Good sluthing Gryphen...thanks for you efforts. We will prevail!!!

PS I guess GWBush seriously dumbed about half of the populaiton down. I'll just bet those folks that were in line for 4 hours & got an autographed book will never read it. It's not what they are for it's what they are against, but they don't really know what they are against. Jesus.

  12. Well, as far as poor Trig being MIA, I hope he isn't sick after all that overexposure while underdressed in the wintery places visited on the month he was away from his therapy -- if he's getting any at all.

Remember how chapped and red and rashy Trig's cheeks were the ONE time he was photographed wearing his glasses during this trip? He looked like he was ill that day

  13. kdusmdd, I looked at the enlarged picture of Bristol, and that shirt just looks a little lumpy to me -- while the adults have been gone the kids have probably been eating fast food for a month. They're probably sick of moose chili and cheese hot dogs.

Glad to see Mrs Todd Palin reads this blog ...the Castro hat looks cute on Piper. See Sarah, it's good you read this blog. You looked silly in the hat, you are way too old for it....Piper looks adorable in it...although she looks a little like a cutie pootie commie....she's also looking a little rebellious as it Willow. Willow appears to have a little attitude tonight...hope this is Jounreys End for the "book tour" ...your family looks like they have had enough.

Three weeks of watching Mommy sign all those books, and the only thing that kept them going was Mommy hissing under her breath, "Shut up and smile. There's gonna be a little nest egg for each of ya."

OT, but I missed the Meg discussion last thread. Didn't Sarah set up some kind of company fronted by Meg's husband that had to do with health care and/or therapy for the disabled and elderly?????

    ReplyDelete
  18. In regards to Willow being PG...don't you guys realize that's the only way to get off the campaign trail. Ask Bristol. I wonder is Meg is working on her new book yet? Hopefully, by next year this will all seem like a bad nightmare.

Willow does not look pregnant. That's a little teeny bit of belly fat on her. Let's not go starting things that are not there, especially with kids (although I am rather pissed at her for glaring at a kid whose only crime was to wear a shirt with POTUS on it).

    Martha unalaska yard sign --
exactly so. Oddly enough today, my 9 year old was looking over my shoulder at that pic of Palin with Trig where everyone else was warmly dressed, but Trig didn't even get pants, and Piper looked bored, sad, tired and pale (but at least dressed). I didn't say a word to him; he asked why the little girl looked so sad and why the baby had no pants, and why the lady holding the baby looked so mean and "so much like Sarah Palin?" (no I am not making this up). I told him that it was Sarah Palin, and those were her kids, and it was almost midnight when the photo was taken, and maybe that's why Piper looked so sad, and I had no idea why she wouldn't put pants on the baby. We talked for a little while about the situation.
My 9 year old expresses how he feels by drawing. I can't even begin to describe the horrible, hideous, skeletal, evil, demented looking drawing he went and drew of Sarah Palin. I truly did not try to vilify Palin to him. He just didn't like how she'd treated her children according to the photo. Her ugly soul comes right through her pretty face. Even a nine year old can see it. I am glad she went on tour without handlers who know better than to just let Sarah be Sarah.

Willow didn't seem to be on the book tour -- she was probably home going to school. She looks very bored and not happy to be one of the "props". She does not need speculation about her. The only time she should get it is if she puts herself out there in interviews by herself with People, Greta, Barbara Walters, etc. It is not her fault she has the mother she does. We all know we're born to our parents, we don't get to choose them! By the same token, she should not be given any "breaks" because of who her mother is and she shouldn't try using momma's name to get her way.

Piper is bored. She was upset at how much school she missed from the campaign. From all I've heard here in Juneau, she likes school and being with friends. Can you imagine finally getting home and having to go do another couple of book stops?! No wonder the kid looked bored.

$P -- be kind to your children. Quit dragging them on your "tours" as props. They belong at home with dad, in school and getting the therapy they need. Traipsing about the country as you have does not give your children any education about the places they have been, driven by, and flown over. I doubt you stopped at the local Chambers of Commerce in the communities you "toured" and picked up anything educational, interesting or anything else for your kids. You did not go to museums, libraries or other educationally relevant stops along the way.

Get Trig the therapies he needs. Have him wear his glasses and, if he has/needs them, his hearing aids. He should be getting physical therapy and speech/occupational therapy to help him swallow so he can eat solids. He needs regular doctor appointments and DOES NOT need to be exposed to all the germs and different people handling him! He needs his mother's attention to bond and to make the strides his little brain is capable of! And for God's sake, dress the kid appropriately for the weather you take him out in! Be his mother, not a celebutant!

Gryphen, do you have any proof whatsoever that Palin had surgery?

Anything? A witness. A document? A source that leaked it to you?

    Where are these "scars"?

One more question: this was a book signing. I'm guessing people in Alaska, as they often do here in New york City, wait in line after picking up a book and then get it signed.

You mentioned you asked "a number" of people about their thoughts about Palin. How many would you say? Did you ask them if they had bought their book prior to coming or at the commissary prior to or after getting a wrist band?

It would seem to me that if someone had just bought the book they probably hadn't read it yet. Did you make any attempt to establish who had bought the book prior to the event at the commissary.

More importantly, are you drawing some sort of oblique conclusion about the people who did not read the book and Palin's alleged popular appeal.

A final thought: the fall from grace of certain elements of the mass media does not make a small-time blogger like yourself who inhabits a very, very small pond a representative of "the new journalism" . You are
a blogger. They are 10 to a penny.

Get a job for one of Alaska's major newspapers and you then might call yourself a "journalist".

    Ernie Pyle was a journalist.

    Edward R. Morrow.

You are a dreamweaver serving a toxic brew that is two parts paranoia and one part wild-ass speculation.

You are accountable to no one--and it is accountability that separates the contenders from the pretenders.

Oh, I disagree. Down here in the lower 48 newspapers which were once "major" are closing down right and left. Our own hometown paper has raised its prices so often and reduced the news coverage so much that its subscribers have left in droves. We left years ago, because anything they report on we had already read about 2 days before on the internet. Even my 75-year-old parents quit taking the paper--in the largest city in the state.

Anyone who doesn't understand that the future of communications is online is deluding themselves. This includes ALL news sources--including bloggers. This is only a problem for people who have something to hide.

LOL for calling Gryphen a small-time blogger, though. Sounds like wishful thinking! I would hardly call a well-known, politically astute blogger with readers across the entire USA "small-time". The magic of the internet is that people like myself can connect with Americans all across the country and share ideas. I am convinced that ability both elected Obama to the presidency and kept McCain (and his poorly-vetted, unqualified, five-college, fake-pregnancy liar of a VP "candidate") out of the highest seats in the nation. Excellent.

I'll trust a small-time blogger any day. They're regular folks just like me!!! Oh, and that's the same argument the evangelical Palinbots here use to describe their Quitter Queen, so you know it must be valid.

Keep up the good work, Gryphen. If you were small time, the trolls wouldn't even BE here.

A blogger in todays Anchorage Daily News wrote: (get your barf bag ready)
I just finished reading Sarah Palin's book, "Going Rogue." Those critical of it are wrong. After all the garbage that has been said about her it was refreshing to hear her perspective on everything. Those people who hate her will never change their minds. However, this book is a must-read for Alaskans with open minds who have questioned some of her decisions. You will then understand why she did what she did, every step of the way. She saves the best for last in her final chapter, The Way Forward. She gives all Americans hope for the future. While she doesn't say it, to me there is no doubt she will run for president in 2012. America will be lucky to have her, and all Alaskans should be proud.

There are people who still love Hitler. I was on a train in Austria going to Vienna, when a neo-nazi, very blond handsome Aryan type got on. Very well dressed and articulate. He proceeded to open his briefcase and show me his Hitler memorabilia to impress me.( I am attractive.)

Well he not only didn't impress me, but it was on my mind to change compartments immediatly as soon as we made any stop.

There will be Palin Bots out there long after she is nothing but a bad joke in History.

    A very, very bad joke.

Maybe it's time to remind the trolls that six Alaska bloggers did a better job of vetting Sarah Palin than the McCain staff ever did.

  68. I used zaba to see if Richard Rhyner was a real person or just a fabrication. He is, he lives in Anchorage. I kept thinking Chuck Heath reminded me of someone & it finally came to me....the Penguin in the Batman & Robin series. What a strange family. It's just amazing they get away with being all American & honest. What's the matter with people. Where are their intuitive instincts? These people have crooks written all over them. Then again there's good old Jimmy Baker & Tammy Faye (I do have a little soft spot for Tammy), Jimmy Swagert...the list goes on & on. These people really had it down, they conned people on tv so all they had to do was rake in the checks.

Hi Bailon from Poland glad you stopped by.

  69. The trolls have been especially mean spirited recently which makes me think we are close to something. What happend to Trooper Wooten hope he stays in the picture. She demands total loyalty from everyone & yet aT the blink or wink of the eye.....UNDER THE BUS.

That was quite an outfit she wore yesterday. I didn't get to appreciate the full effect until I saw a photo on Bree's site....Nicole Wallace where are you when Mrs Todd sees fashion advice....oh that's right....UNDER THE BUS.

Anon @ 7:04, absolutely right! The state of traditional journalism in this country, and the world, is in transition - to say the least. I don't think many of the bloggers are pretending to be professional journalists. But what they are doing is holding the MSM accountable, since they have failed at their own mission and they continue to do so. If it weren't for people like Gryphen, Sarah Palin would be much further along than she already is. The blogs are what are keeping her in check - relative term though that is! Bloggers don't need to be held accountable - they are watchdog citizens, nothing more. They probably won't take the chance on breaking this story wide open themselves, but they will provide the invaluable nudging to those who can, which is so critically necessary at this time. They are putting the MSM's feet to the fire, and without this our democracy is/will be dead. Why do you think so many bloggers try to remain anonymous - because they are up against huge power structures. And why do you think Sarah Palin is so obsessed with these same bloggers, because she knows they are a real threat to the very institutions which would enable her to rise up to a position of power herself.

  71. Gryphen: OT for this post, but am afraid you will miss my comments if I put them on the previous and pertinent post. Re: Meg Stapleton (one concession - calling her by her name and not the one I have been using for months) - I disagree vehemently with your comment to her that she can have her former life back and to come on over; we're waiting for her. I don't think Meg can have her former life back (I can't remember what that was exactly, but...); who would hire her? I mean, really. What is she going to list under special abilities on her resume? That she can lie, lie, lie ... on camera, on paper, on Facebook - as long as she is paid or gets a little affection from the person regardless of what they have done or said. I remember the first time I became aware of Meg: the tv interview outside the courthouse during the Monegan hearings. She was so hateFULL! Vindictive, vitriolic. But sometime after the election and before the inauguration, when ethics charges were being levied against Palin, I either emailed Meg Stapleton directly, or I may have posted a comment on a related article in ADN, that it was not too late, Meg, you should run. Jump off the boat before it sinks. I had no idea the boat would still be afloat, but it is. Meg did not jump. She got worse. The statements about Levi; the lying about speaking engagements. Even when the lies were obvious, she still maintained the deception. So I have no sympathy. I do hope that she is not depressed enough to harm herself. My husband and I work in mental health; my husband is recognized by our local Crisis Services(Helpline) as an expert on suicide intervention. I would never want anyone to harm themselves. But Meg (if this story is true) will have much work to do if she is having the "Oh my God, what have I done?" awareness. Meg, if you read this, get some help to deal with how you are feeling about the lies and hate you helped perpetuate.

    Right on.

Gryphen you are our watchdog citizen, since the BIG Dogs like Murdoch are backing $arah Palin to the hilt.

Murdoch tried getting cosy with Hilary and Obama, and they didn't get on board.

    $arah Palin did.

And Faux News is Murdochs pet poodle. So they might sniff a bit at her heels and up her skirt, but they won't bite.

  74. Now a comment about this thread. I agree with everyone who says Willow is full of attitude above. (and to those who are speculating she is pregnant, no need to go there. plus, I think she is wearing a loose like t-shirt or blouse over a pair of jeans and it is just bunching out a bit because she is leaning and has her arms folded over her chest which too indicates she is closed down; angry). She looks sullen. I don't know if she is angry at her Mom or if she is angry about the President Obama t-shirt. If it is the latter, then she is just more of the same, and that is shameful.

I think people need to relax about Willow. She's just a kid still, she has wretched parents through no fault of her own, and focusing on her is completely counter-productive and a waste of brain power.

  76. Anonymous7:32 AM

It is OBVIOUS that she had work. NO one needs a source to tell us that.

In fact, I'd venture to say that the trolls would love nothing more than for us to get caught up in analyzing Willow's behavior, her appearance (!!!), etc. Far better that we take such a detour if it leads us away from the real story at hand.

@Zane, excellent observation! You are right, Chuckie does look like the Penquin from the old Batman and Robin TV series! Thanks for pointing that out. It has been driving me nuts trying to think of who he looks like. LMAO.

Not to detour at all, but how the hell did Chuck Jr. get so tall with two clearly small parents and a small sister? Weird.

Palin and her family are one and the same. She cannot be without them, nocuous symbiosis. Not healthy. They are all on the same celebrity tour bus. As in a Twilight Zone episode of the Partridge family. Examing them the same as her, no difference. Chuck and Willow can leave the spotlight when they want. If they made a deal with the devil, this is what they bargained for.

  83. I guess the leaf doesn't fall too far from the tree. I afraid little old Mr & Mrs Heath have created a child (Mrs T Palin) that they should be proud of. The fact that the penquin so freely drops racist remarks speaks badly about their upbringing. I think the penquin is a nasty little redneck racist that has brianwashed the lovely queen of the North.

Oh common Queen of the NORTH, are you one of them?

Chuckie has said $P is stubborn and when she is crossed will not back down. You can't change her mind he has said.

I doubt her parents have had much influence, beyond supplying her with an endless supply of moose meat to put dazed stars in visiting media types eyes. And plenty of baby sitters.

Moose meat, Moose chili, Moose hot dogs, all in Chuckies freezer. I wonder where he gets it all.

The whole Heath / Palin family is a disgrace to the beautiful and wonderful citizens of Alaska.

Disfunctional at best..otherwise how could the Heath's have raised such a malfunctioning person as Sarah. They are a very sad family and to stand proudly by Sarah shows what sick minds they all have.

Thanks, Gryphen for the write-up and the pictures. I am not the least bit surprised that those fans you talked to hadn't read the book or that they thought she was "honest." They are enamored with the fantasy Sarah, and if we hadn't done our homework and discovered that the truth contradicts the fantasy, we'd love her, too. I don't give a rip about her family life - it's none of my business - but her track record as an elected official and her inability to be consistently ethical and honest has convinced me that she is not fit for public office, nor is any candidate that would choose to associate themselves with her.

Portrayed in these photos are two young ladies whose childhoods and lives have been, and continue to be, stolen from them.

Piper appears to be detached from the world she has found herself in and seems to be peering into a distant world that only she can see. Her own mother is actively destroying her.

Willow's stance and expression are indicative of defiance, as if she is past numbness and has moved to thinking: I'm here because I have no choice--but you just wait, Mommy Dearest--you're going to pay for this one some day--I am going to make sure of it.

I wish just one Palin supporter would look at what is going on here. What SP's ambition is doing to these children. They are being robbed of any semblance of normalcy in their young lives. To support and worship SP is to contribute to their undoing.

Apparently SP's supporters consider the lives of the Palin children dispensable.

  88. Willow just looks like any teenager who is sick and tired of having a narcissistic, grandstanding mother who controls every aspect of their family's existence. She also might be tired of holding the door shut on the closet full of lies. That's a full-time job in that family.

Run, girlfriend! Go to college (for a SERIOUS education only, please) and see what Real Americans are like. There's still time to get away from perpetual babysitting duties, jiffy pop Bumpit hairdos, plastic surgery and staged photo ops. You can always go home for Thanksgiving or Christmas....maybe your mom will even drop by!!

    Anon @7:04 and @7:18:

Excellent points both, regarding bloggers vs. professional journalists in today's world. Watchdog citizens with a platform have a very different role than the MSM, and they can serve as checks and balances for each other. When one is out of balance (or in this case, asleep at the wheel), the other can step up to the plate and fill in the gap.

However, they are held accountable in different ways. While one looks for credibility in any media, the test for bloggers comes not from established quarters or the powers that be, but rather from their fellow citizens. While journalists are supposed to be accountable to their readers, we know in fact that being beholden to corporate sponsors sets up an inherent conflict of interest, often resulting in less than independent reporting.

Bloggers on the other hand, have far fewer resources to work with because of their independence, but have the freedom to pursue the truth as they see it. It is up to their readers to determine whether that pursuit and viewpoint is driven by honesty and integrity, or merely a mouthpiece for other interests.

Putting the onus on citizens to determine the credibility of information sources requires an educated and informed electorate, as our founding fathers so wisely stated. Those who are not up to that task will be satisfied with whatever they read in any media, as long as it tells them what they want to hear. Discerning readers who make informed choices as to the best sources of information will ultimately determine the credibility of those outlets. Truth has a funny way of catching up with people.
