Don't you hate it when your parents fight?

The other day I almost posted Jon Stewart's spanking of Keith Olbermann in response to Keith's over the top evisceration of Scott Brown. I resisted because watching my two favorite TV personalities going at each other made me want to hide under my bed and call family services.

But when I saw how Keith Olbermann took what Stewart said to heart, and act like a man about it, well I just felt that we all needed to see it. I am sorry if it stings a little.

We should be more concerned about another set of parents who are publicly fighting. One day, Tripp will be able to read. A couple of clicks and his friends will be able to dial up all of the nasty stuff that has been going back and forth.

To his credit, Levi has been a gentleman, complimenting Bristol for being a good mother (whether she is or not). Sarah has either said it herself (Ricky Hollywood snark) or had someone say it for her (Chuck, Meg). They don't realize that they are hurting the kid.

Keith and Jon have a bottom line, ratings. They can stage a fake-feud for all I care. They want those clips played over and over on You Tube. They want people to talk about them. They want ratings. When Keith was imitated on SNL, he has to say that it was funny; he cannot say anything nasty. That's show biz.

Sarah is interested in ratings, too. She is trying to get as much press as she can. She does get good ratings; it is the only reason that Oprah had her on. Ratings. Ditto for Fox. Ratings. It is the same reason that Fox has not fired Beck, Bully O'Reilly, Hannity, or anyone else. Ratings.

Sarah also has this need to win at all costs. She can only see grabbing the ball (Tripp). She does not see that when he gets older, he may want to know his father and resent the person who kept him away. Sarah is also hurting Bristol, or should I say, punishing Bristol.

As for Keith and Jon, they managed to take Brown apart and generate ratings. It wouldn't have been nearly as bit a hit if they just clobbered the guy who offered up his available daughters on TV. Maybe Sarah could hire him to do some PR for Bristol and Willow, too, also.

  3. Good for Olbermann. Showed he's a big man, admitted he was wrong and he apologized. More than I can say for a certain former President.

And I'll bet he appears on The Daily Show and the Colbert Report real soon.

Should be fun. Stewart can do Olbermann and Olbermann can do Stewart. (Yes, I noticed.) And they'll both have someone of their level with which to discuss what is really going on with the Fascist Five decision regarding artificial people.

I notice that on the Sarah Palin page of the Huffington Post, there are two identical pictures of Levi kissing baby Trig, while Bristol is holding him (taken at the convention 2008). The captions have to do with Bristol suing Levi for child support. That's not the kid they are fighting over, or is it?

  5. Olbermann was not OTT. He was right on. Nailed the smarmy creep.

Brown and his daughters. Toad and his daughters. One can only speculate. Shocking, but not surprising, considering.

KO scored a KO with his admission.
His mea culpa proved his humility is as grand as his ego, his intellect, and his sense of humor.

My sense is he was overcome with an overwhelming sense of disbelief and horror that Ted Kennedy's seat was lost and, with it, too, any chance for HCR.

  8. i could barely make it through the Daily Show withoug cringing, for i've a tender spot in my heart for Olbermann and Stewart. but if anyone could jest at O's expense with heart and not to maim, it would be Stewart.

All I get when I click on this is the MSNBC report on Haiti.

  10. I am not a Scott Brown fan but Olberman was a little over the top. However, Olberman manned up about it and took the criticism in stride. Stewart was fair and funny. A little "checks and balances" is good for all of us.

PS I'd love to see Keith go on the Daily show after this. These two could have a lot of fun with this.

Watched this yesterday. Big difference is: these are two adults, brilliant in their own way, not like what's paddlng around in the deep end of the kiddie pool at Faux News. Stewart calls 'em as he sees 'em and dishes it out to one and all. KO acknowledged it and replied like the class act he is. Neither are afraid to speak out and that will be valuable to us in the days ahead. Love and respect 'em both.

Stewart's parody was interesting to watch, it was more silly and lesst cutting that most of his work, so it did on the one hand come off as a bit mealey mouthed compaired to much or his other work, but did make the point.

Instead of getting mad and getting back, which is what most ego driven TeeVee personalities do Olbermann took the hit rather well.
He did not appologize to Brown or to Stewart but to the camera and thus to this audience.

    Well done gentlemen.

The Dims have no one to blame but themselves. Brown was well funded and well supported and the DNC left a qualified but not sparkley candidate pretty much on her own.

The DNC needs to fight and fight hard for its candidates if they expect to win. From scool board to POTUS the national party need to get off their loosers, wo is me backsides and realize there is no such thing as a "local" election any more.

Good point. Most judges these days run for office. That means they need campaign cash.
The supremes had now made it possible for big money interests , if they have not already, to fund and buy PR for judges.

They should be revealed when cases that involve those companies end up in that judge's court. The supremes decision makes that discloure much more difficult.

When I tried to play the video, I didn't get Olbermann.
But....Crooks & Liars has the transcript and video up today.

    Otherwise, great post.

I love both of those guys. I thoroughly enjoyed KO's OTT reaming of Scott Brown because Keith is fun when he's all riled up, and there were plenty of grains of truth in the rant. I also love a good rant ribbing, which Jon Stewart delivered with style. I would like to see the Ben Affleck "special comment" run with the Stewart one (not an Affleck fan AT ALL but love his version of KO). They are both funny, and catch the essence of Olbermann in Overdrive. One of the best things about being on the liberal side of the fence is that liberals have the capacity to laugh at themselves, which can't be said for those right wing nutballs who take themselves FAR TOO SERIOUSLY.

  17. Keith Olbermann criticized a politician for unseemly behavior. Senator-elect Brown is chronically mentioned as a possible presidential candidate. Brown behaved like an unpresidential jerk. Jon Stewart is a comedian. If he uses foul language on television, that doesn't impact on our nation: he's just another comedian. I appreciate Olbermann's chivalrous response, but Stewart looked at this from the wrong angle.
