Fake pimp filmmaker, and Fox News golden boy, busted by FBI for attempting to bug Democratic Senator's office.

James O'Keefe, the young conservative filmmaker who was behind the undercover operations that led to the ACORN scandal last year, was arrested with three others for allegedly trying to bug the New Orleans office of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) yesterday.

The FBI announced today the foursome have been charged with entering federal property under false pretenses for the purpose of committing a felony.

The affidavit alleges that the botched phone bugging began with two of the four men -- Joseph Basel and Robert Flanagan, both 24 -- entering Landrieu's office in downtown New Orleans in Village People-style construction worker garb, claiming they were telephone repairmen.

Each man was wearing blue denim pants, a blue work, shirt, a light fluorescent green vest, a tool belt, and carrying white, construction-style hard hat, when they allegedly asked a staffer to show them to the telephone closet.

O'Keefe, meanwhile, was already in the office, and he allegedly told the Landrieu staffer he was "waiting for someone to arrive." The affidavit alleges O'Keefe held up his cell phone to record Basel and Flanagan.

Oh God, I can barely stop laughing! This is by FAR my favorite story of the day!

Now my question is who was bankrolling this kid? Who sent him into the office of a Democratic Senator with the equipment necessary to bug her office? Fox News? The GOP? We don't really think he did this without help do we? And how long do you think a punk kid like this will hold out, before he spills his guts to the Feds?

This may just be the beginning of this story.

For me the truly hysterical part of this story is how eagerly Fox News embraced this ridiculous kid. He, and his Facebook girlfriend, were featured guests on Glen Beck, Sean Hanity, and Fox and Friends.

Here is the Hardball report on this story.

Update: Here is the affidavit from the investigating officer.

And here is a link to Republican Congressman Pete Olson's resolution praising Hannah Giles and James O’Keefe III.

Text of the House Resolution:

Whereas Hannah Giles and James O’Keefe III filmed investigatory videos uncovering the fraudulent and illegal practices of the Association of Community Organization for Reform Now (ACORN);

Whereas the House of Representatives voted to completely defund ACORN on September 17, 2009;

Whereas these videos resulted in the potential annual savings of millions of taxpayer dollars to organizations that contract with ACORN;

Whereas Hannah Giles and James O’Keefe III have displayed exemplary actions as government watchdogs and young journalists uncovering wasteful government spending; and

Whereas Hannah Giles and James O’Keefe III are owed a debt of gratitude by the people of the United States:

Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the House of Representatives— (1) honors Hannah Giles and James O’ Keefe III for their work as investigative journalists; (2) commends Hannah Giles and James O’ Keefe III for bringing to light the fraudulent behavior of the Association of Community Organization for Reform Now (ACORN) and helping save millions of taxpayer dollars that otherwise would have funded ACORN; and (3) respectfully requests the Clerk of the House to transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution to Hannah Giles and James O’Keefe III.

Like I said, my favorite story of the day.

    Gryphen, O'Keefe has ties to the RW blogger and WA Times writer Andrew Breitbart (who denies any involvement, of course).

  6. It would seem that O'Keefe would know when to stop. He and his little pastor's daughter accomplice are already facing charges in Maryland for videotaping ACORN employees without their pwermission. As I was watching the video clip of O'Keefe & companion, I finally got a chance to see the outfits they wore on their visits to the ACORN offices, and I burst out laughing. Even their outfits weren't representative of what pimps and prostitutes would wear. They must have been watching that old Superfly movie to come up with those outfits! Hahahahaha! I sure hope they get the book thrown at them in federal court and in Maryland. Matthews was wondering what Fuchs Noose and the rw will say about them since they gave them a lot of attention when the doctored ACORN tapes came out. My guess is they'll do the same thing that they did when news about Vitter and Ensign was revealed: act like it's no big deal and/or act like it never happened because they don't want their viewers and listeners finding out that there are some seriously rotten apples in their barrel.

    Crap like this always comes back to bite the idiots of the right wing in the ass. Sadly it seems most of them are window peepers. They love listening in to phone conversations and " hiding in closets".

    Funny-when Pat said "what did they think they'd hear?"--I wanted to gag. He's acting like they had some legal standing to do this shyte. It doesn't matter what they thought they'd hear. It's a felony to try and hear it. Morons.

    Tomorrow these guys will be heroes on FAUX and their financial "backer" will have paid them off to shut them up.

They must be hit every day with this lack of morals/ethics since they always love to spew the holier than thou nonsense.

    The excuses are already flying and so are the conspiracy theories:

    1) they've been set up by Obama and his goons/DOJ/ACORN!
    2) They must have heard some whispering going on and thought where there's smoke there's fire.

    I saw this else where, weren't the people that solicited Acorn under investigation for their illegal solicitations?

    They were trying to get money from a non profit under false prestenses.

    The plumbers went to jail for a long time. Especially, since this was Fed property and an elected officieal of the US I hope the federal laws cream this creep.

    My husband is the mayor of a SW Louisiana small town for 3 years now. The Louisiana Republican Party tried to sanction him for endorsing Landrieu's re-election. He is a registered Republican but votes for the person, not the party. While we do not agree with a lot of her politics, when we have a hurricane or other major problems, Mary Landrieu has been the ONLY person to show up in person to help our town. His comment to the Repub party was "Thank you for letting me know I am such a prominent Republican, I didn't realize that" So "Bring it on". They dropped it quick. I say, follow the money on this stupid attempt to bug a Federal office. It will be interesting to see where or who that leads to. What a bunch of idiots!

    This goober is what passes for investigative journalism among the teabagger set. I hope a few of these sanctimonious asshats go to prison. If we are REALLY lucky, someone at FauxNews and a prominent GOP figure or two will get jammed up in this mess.

    This guy is about as credible a spy as Shawn Eckerd was. Remember, he was the bodyguard for Tonya Harding who claimed that he'd been a consultant for the CIA when he was only 16. O'Keffe seems to fancy himself some sort of latter day James Bond. Hell, he should go to prison just for that ridiculous "pimp" getup alone. The fact that he thought he was convincing in the part gives us a glimpse into the intellect of Mr. O'Keefe.

    Sadly, this clod is about as bright as teabaggers get.

    Check out the comments on the page about the GOP tactics in UT. Man everywhere we turn is illegal activity just because they are so threatened and freaked out about Obama actually winning the WH. I'm sure they never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever thought they'd have to worry about a 'colored' in their WH.

    So now they're resorting to stealing our democracy and breaking the law, anything that sticks just so no one ever votes for another non-white president.

    Imagine the eruption of lunacy if liberals had attempted these crimes against a sitting GOP senator. How loud would be the outrage at FauxNews? We would have nothing but continuous wailing and gnashing of teeth from the right 24 hours a day. Thirty one GOP members of the house were quick to sponsor a House Resolution lauding Mr. O'Keefe when he enacted his laughable "I'm a pimp" routine. Where is their outrage at Mr. O'Keefe's felonies?

    The news as of last night was that they had discovered a receiver capable of monitoring listening devices in the car of one of these bozos. The charges are being added seemingly by the minute.

    These peawits very well may be acting on their own. However, it would not really surprise me to learn of some possible connections with either a FauxNews producer or Breitbart. O'Keefe's brand of "journalism" isn't really too far removed from the ambush tactics of FauxNews and Breitbart ain't too bright. Imagine the irony of some of the GOP echo chamber's biggest sources of noise being associated with felons?

    It is also quite interesting that Acting U.S. Attorney Flanagan is only in that position because Sen. David "Get Me A Hooker" Vitter has been holding up the confirmation of President Obama's nominee for that post. Could we lay some blame at the feet of Vitter as well?

    So, the GOP has been palin' around with felons and hookers? To quote Dana Carvey's Church Lady, "Now, isn't that special."
