To be fair, I did watch a little coverage of this while I was doing my cardio.
Some of the regular talking heads did report on this story However they also spun it to give the O'Keefe the benefit of the doubt, saying that he MAY have been involved in a legitimate investigation that will protect them from prosecution under their First Amendment rights. Yeah that one kind of confused me as well.
You can see a little of that argument expressed here.
It is rather interesting to note that Andrew Breitbart, O'Keefe's employer, quickly and vehemently denied any connection to this potential crime.
So much for fair and balanced reporting. Which just makes me even more confused as to WHY Americans seem to think that Fox News is the most trusted source for news.
This is from O'Keefe's Twitter page: I am a journalist. The truth shall set me free. Hmm well claiming to be a journalist will not protect you from prosecution if you are caught trying to tap a Senators phone. But good luck with that kid.
Yesterday on HuffPo I saw the Repubs making comments on this story already trying to trivialize it and tamp it way down. Saying O'Keefe and his gang of clowns just tried to do something good and messed up... Aw, shucks, boys will be boys, they just went a little bit too far, can't really blame 'em for trying...blah, blah.
ReplyDeleteWhat would Sarah say?
ReplyDeleteThe same thing as when some teenage hacker tried to access the emails she hid from public disclosure by using a private account for state business)?
Might be wise for that Great American Andrew Breitbart to lawyer up now as well as few of the other folks at Faux.
ReplyDeleteGryphen, believe me there are alot of us who know Fox does not report "fair and balanced" news. It's slanted and twisted news and that's why Palin fits right in even if she is an arrogant no nothing lying s.o.b.
ReplyDeleteThis clown and G. Gordon Liddy will SOON have a very similar background. BOTH WILL HAVE SERVED FEDERAL CRIMINAL SENTENCES for trying to bug democrats..
ReplyDeleteTyrone at Supermax will LOVE this guy...tee..hee.. and a harty HAR... Har... Har.....
I think this is (so far) my favorite Repub spin on this story:
ReplyDeleteComes from TPM, Rondo's comment "This case is very curious, and I’m wondering this morning after much reflection that it may well be a “set-up”....by none other than James O’Keefe.
Like Hannibal at Cannae, O’Keefe may have pulled back his front as a tactic to draw in the enemy and destroy them. My sense is that this is a gig devised to blow up in the prosecutor’s face and give O’Keefe a hammer on the prosecutor and the plaintiffs in the lawsuit".
LOL. STOOOPID!!!!! I hope bank robbers have more self-respect than to adopt that as a defense when they're caught.
If they try to compare O'Keefe and his gang of clowns to Sarah's email "hacker", they won't find prior offenses wearing pimp & hooker costumes, nor will they find a group of conspirators helping to guess Sarah's password.
ReplyDeleteWho's ready for tonight's SOTU address?

Either way Good Luck!
Another keynote speaker down the drain!!
ReplyDeleteUtah GOP Group Cancels James O'Keefe As Keynote Speaker At Lincoln Day Dinner
http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/01/utah_gop_group_cancels_james_okeefe_as_keynote_spe.php
Just to clarify, TPMuckraker now says maybe not a bugging, but a tampering with phone system.
ReplyDeleteAlso added was that one of the hard hats had a camera on it. We already know that O'Keefe was video taping the interaction between his compadres and Senate staff. Dai was reported yesterday to have been sitting in a vehicle a block or so away with a listening device. All of these items including the phone would have been confiscated by authorties.
Jonathan Turley, said there might be more charges that could be added, but we'll see.
Freepers are mainly doing the boo hoo hoo, it is all Dems fault, O'Keefe is brillant, it's all a plan, blah, blah, blah. Basically trying to convince themselves I think.
What they all seem to forget is that since the Oklahoma bombing, the feds of no shape or form, take messing around federal buildings with fraudulent intentions lightly.
Whatever these guys might or might not have been doing, it could have been someone looking to plant a bomb in a federal building. Unless they accept a plea bargain, there will be a trial. I think they would plea before they would want to go to trial.
As for Breitbart, by his own reasoning if ACORN is guilty because of what employees do or say, is he not equally as guilty in this instance?
Oh, sorry this is long, but one more thing. On the pimp dealeo, that was editing in. O'Keefe, did not dress as a pimp in a ridiculous outfit when entering ACORN offices, he entered as a boyfriend, and the later outragious outfit was edited in. Just like there was talk over on the tape, so you couldn't hear what was actually said by O'Keefe to the ACORN employees. Talk about a fake. That the conservatives will latch onto anything in their desperation is easily seen by their interaction with O'Keefe. Boy not so wonderful.
O'Keefe and the GOP. First you're in then you're out. Much like conservative birth control.
ReplyDeleteBet O'Keefe's mom is wishing she would have exercised her right to choose...
Don't you think it's strange Beck hasn't commented. Wasn't he the one that broke the ACORN story? I hope he was working in cahoots with these cluckleberries -- and gets put away too.
ReplyDeleteYeah I heard Fox try to spin it as a "prank." Good luck with that!
That young man that hacked Palin's emails, he a journalist too? Did the truth set him free?
ReplyDeleteLet's face it folks the half black man in the White House scares the bajeesus out of those that have always had control. D.C. is for the rich, white, elite and no one else. Think they aren't freaking out still that he was able to get the support he did from THEIR white America.
ReplyDeleteExpect more and more and more of this.......they will look for and do anything to undermine him and the party he belongs to (so they can then tie that up to him) so that America is afraid to ever choose the non-white, non-male, non-rich leader ever again.
It also certainly freaks them out that this same black man doesn't have a damn thing in his background to bring up and smear him with. Think there haven't been hundreds toiling away day in and day out looking for dirt on Barack, Michelle, their sibs, relatives, etc. but what do ya know........they can't find shit because there is none.
The President and his wife were not just brought to value and go after an education they were also taught to have morals, values and charachter. Their parents & Barack's grandparents instilled charachter in their children by teaching them that nothing comes easy, hard work and dedication is everything and both had examples of that hard work and determination.
This is just one of many underhanded, illegal, sneaky, unethical things going on behind the scenes in an effort to discredit the man even if it's only by associating him with someone else because of political party.
Not much different than the 5 right wing supreme court justices who just ruled in favor of the GOP. It's nothing more than an attempt to battle Obama in 2012 because they saw the amount of $$ he was able to bring in from actual ordinary, everyday, average voters.
We can't have that now can we? Voters are deciding who will be in the White House?! Can't let that happen so we got that pathetic ruling last week.
We have to get fired back up because they are using every tactic they can and they won't stop til they get their way!
WE MUST BE THE STOP SIGN!
Just a Chick in the City
What'd you expect Fox "News"?
ReplyDeleteJournalists are not allowed to violate the law, when they do, they get arrested, convicted and sent to jail.
ReplyDeleteWhat legitimate purpose is there to entering a telephone closet?? Journalists - even real ones - are not allowed to wiretap. And the part about Mr. Dai out in the car... yeah, that's sketchy, too.
About that poll supposedly showing that Fox is the most trusted news source -- some people are digging into the numbers and finding something far different. You can read about it here:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2010/1/27/830820/-Fox-News:-The-Most-Trusted-Name-In-News
I'm sure it is all just a big misunderstanding. It happens all the time. The FBI is CONSTANTLY arresting people for illegal wiretapping a senator's office. If I had a nickel every time that happened to me, I'd have... nothing.
ReplyDeleteI think these morons are about to get a real world education. They may have laughed their asses off when pretending to be pimps and thinking they were duping liberals from ACORN, but they just stepped in deep shit up to their eyebrows. They are facing major federal felonies which will not be laughed off.
Mr. O'Keefe may be in for the biggest education of all, as he will be the most likely target after his grandstanding last fall. Unless he does have info about someone bigger than him involved, he better hope that he doesn't get any real prison time. After his pimpin' that he did, he would more than likely be a very popular new on ramp on the highway of prison "love." I have an idea that there might be many folks in prison who might not be as favorably inclined toward O'Keefe's "humor" in his attacks on ACORN and arguably, an entire race.
Leave it to the ethical Lilliputians at FauxNews to treat this story as anything but what it is about: priveleged arrogant young teabagger bastards committing felonies because they thought it would be funny. FauxNews has proven, once again, that they are nothing more than teabagger cheerleaders who don't give a fat rat's ass about the law or about the truth. They also won't lift a finger to help these feckless buffoons.
Which of the four will give the others up first? I suspect at least one or two of them are preparing to sing up a real storm in the VERY near future. The very real prospect of prison time has a way of focusing one's mind and tightening one's sphincter.
