Perhaps Rachel Maddow DID have a game plan last night. Update!

I have been receiving a ton of visits today so I checked to see where they are coming from.

The majority of them are coming from here, but I am getting them from a variety of other sources as well.

So let me just make a formal apology to Rachel Maddow for ever doubting her.

With her little nudge last night this thing is going viral. In the end it may prove to be no big deal, but since we are dealing with the Palin's the chances are good that there is something a little hinky going on here.

You know you can always tell when you have struck a nerve when you get comments that say things like "Wow I am so disappointed in this site. This will be my LAST visit.", or "I hate Sarah Palin, but you are completely wrong about this", and my favorite "Sarah Palin is making a fool out of you."

I guess these faux supporters believe I am driven by visitor response, but I am not. I am driven by the search for the truth. It is always nice to get compliments and support, but even if I had the comments turned off I would still be doing what I do. Count on it.

Update: Now the Huffington Post is on the case.

Update 2: Now the Raw Story is also following the story.

Update 3: Let us all welcome Gawker to the party as well.

Actually Gryph...the 'clue' was in Rachel's party line and snicker as she ended the segment. I do hope that she will "also-too" investigate why Van Flein has his hands in Pie Spy, LLC as well? And check out the convenient timing of these alleged corporations....?

  16. I never doubted Rachel for a minute - she will report what she can and I'm sure her team will continue to investigate - look how they stayed on the whole C street situation. If there is a story here - Rachel will find a way to get it out there - unless her corporate bosses force her not to. Just by Rachel getting this story out to the world is HUGE and means more folks are going to look in to it as well.

By the way Gryphen - you rock! I stop by here at least twice a day :)

I remember some anon poster a while back who mentioned that all $arah had to do/would do is to offer Bristol a job that paid $100,000/year to show that she makes good income to be able to support the baby on her own. I guess anon was correct and knew something about this LLC...

Who is responsible for checking into the legalities of all this?
I am talking about ALL: $arahPAC (she is NOT a public official anymore, but a PRIVATE citizen!), Alaskan Fund Trust, Pie Spy, BSwhatever, etc, etc.

I didn't comment on the Bristol LLC story here, but the fact that it is out there is interesting. I work as a consultant and at times have collected some very large fees. Because of this, I can take expenses (home, computer, supplies, etc.) on my taxes.

There are a lot of different ways to work independently, collect all kinds of fees and do taxes. Fed taxes do require a NAICS code offering and offer the instructions on tax forms. Mine includes a variety of areas that I could (but don't) work in. Fed Naics codes are pretty standard everywhere. It does not make much sense that each state would make their individual changes, except in extenuating circumstances.

The codes follow through for grants, SB loans, and Fed contracts. My curiosity grows with why be an LLC when other means of reporting can work just as well. I believe it may have something to do with the amount of money crossing to the company. And the initials would certainly hide a name for reporting purposes. Also, more fees for VF to collect.

I know of many consultants who use their full name in the LLC title for greater recognition in their areas of expertise.

I think it is all very curious and a good find by you Gryphen.

Forget the negatives, folks are always looking for a "hot" story without linking the details together.

For all of you doubters who claim that 19 year old Bristol does not have any political experience, I offer the following:
    1. She attended the GOP convention last fall, 2008
    2. She accompanied her mother on campaign stops
    3. She appear on stage following her mother's debate with Joe Biden
    4. Sarah offered Bristol's baby sitting services to Tina Fey. (It's experience; now Bristol has contact with someone who does political satire).
    5. Bristol appeared in an interview with Greta on Fox. Fox News is the publicity arm of the GOP. Nuff said.
    6. Bristol appears to have hand written thank you notes to Sarah's donors. Palingates had a piece about it following the election, comparing "thank you for the gift or donation" notes with Sarah's actual signature. The writer was not Sarah. (If she cannot write a thank you note, she cannot write a book).
    7. Taking a stand against any form of sex education is a popular political position for the far right.
    8. Bristol has more experience than any of us-- years of watching her mother rise from small town mayor to governor to America's Sweetheart or almost vice president. Something must have rubbed off.
    9. Bristol has already offered Sarah political advice. When Sarah explained how she reached her decision to quit as governor, there were four yes's and one hell yes. Bristol's vote counts.
    10. At some point, Sarah must have turned to Bristol and asked, "Does this dress make me look fat?" It doesn't matter what the response was; that's political consultation!
    11. It was suggested by someone at Palingates that Bristol will now spend time scanning the blogs, looking for unflattering comments about Sarah. Hi and welcome to the Club, Bristol!

As much as it is fun to laugh about the newest business tycoon in the Palin moneymaking factory, I think that Gryphen should also post the fact that Sarah's face book fans have been threatening some kind of mob action because they don't like the way that the judges in the custody case have ruled.

That is simply not how the US legal system works. Threatening judges to influence the outcome deserves Keith and Rachel's attention because it speaks to the entire tea bag movement. They are unhappy with the elected officials so all that they can do is stir up anger and try to halt legislation. This is not democracy in action. And the Wasilla Wacko's who think that the legal system works by mob rule need to be held to account.

That also goes for a radio host who sees freedom of speech as his right to yell "fire" in a crowded theater. He is inciting people to mob action. It remind me of the Fox News people egging on the murders of Dr. Tiller, the doctor who performed late term abortions.

Judges are not fooled by instant 6 figure incomes for 19 year old girls who might have a GED. Any family court judge has seen it all. They know that good parenting is not all about money. They do not keep good public records in Wasilla. The number of pregnant teens is sky high. Bristol could be a mover and shaker right there in Wasilla doing work for teens in private. We keep hearing of her work and school but there is no sign of her. Bristol may be a very humble dedicated worker for Candies, she just wants no one to know. She can restore her image with a good PR firm, that should not be a problem.

I would like to see this play out and for Bristol to show us the real Bristol. She will need to come out of the shadows, asap. Let the teens and unwed pregnant girls come forward and tell their stories and how Bristol effects the community. It is all right there in Wasilla for anyone that wants to know the real story.

AST over an old grudge, lied about . . .gosh, just about everything, BANNED the press from a public event, faked a "bus" tour so simpletons would still think she was "folksy"---we have to really think outside the box about why a 19 year old girl with no experience, resources or education would start her own consulting company.

I don't understand why this is a big deal. Octomom's kids make $250/day for working on her reality show. Palin's kids should be worth at least that much. Considering their importance to the brand I think they should be earning a lot more than that for their public relations work. About the only thing interesting here is that the other kids *don't* have an LLC too.

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article6727995.ece

"Octuplet mother Nadya Suleman has signed agreements for each of her 14 children – aged four months to eight years old - to earn $US250 (£150) a day to star in a reality television show.

Techgnome, if the Palins are above board there will be nothing to catch up with them. It took years for the Bernie Madoff schemes to hit the fan. The Palins aren't that clever.

If Bristol can show she is legit and handle any scrutiny that comes out of his she will have joint custody. She may did to bring up something in Levi's past and her past may become important. If chronic lying is a harmful that could come up. There cannot be alienation of affection. For the best interest of the child there will likely be intense psychiatric evaluations. Bristol can show the courts how she is independent and lives on her own and it will need to be backed up with facts. They separate the family members and friends to get different perspectives. If Bristol had a special friend or was dating that can be evaluated as it relates to Tripp.

Report: Bristol Palin may become a political consultant
That didn't sit well with Jesse Griffin of the Immoral Minority blog, whose reporting on the Palins got him banned from a recent Sarah Palin book-signing.

In a reaction to Maddow's column, Griffin wrote that the type of company Bristol Palin established is strictly a public relations firm, and Van Flein's explanation for its purpose doesn't add up.

Maddow "is famous for doggedly going after a story and staying on it until she reveals the facts and exposes the lies," Griffin wrote. "So how can ONE phone call from Thomas Van Flein discourage her from this potentially explosive story? I have to say I am a little disappointed."

Kinda gonna agree here. I like to know, occasionally, that you're still working on things, but I find the "most amazing shocking reveal EVAH" sort of thing annoying. I believe that there are all sorts of scandals waiting to be revealed, because this is Sarah Palin (in other breaking news, water is wet) but the just-wait-until-you-hear thing doesn't accomplish anything but frustrate us. Or at least me.

On the other side, I'm really grateful you're here, Gryph. I'm grateful to all the Alaska bloggers. For some reason, when I tried to post this earlier, it apparently did not take. I will try to reconstruct it from memory.

I am gobsmacked to learn that Bristol Palin is now the “ambassador” for Candie’s Foundation, an organization which promotes abstinence. Say what? Bristol Palin is a spokesperson for an abstinence organization? WTF!? Making her the face of abstinence is kind of like making Mark Sanford a spokesman for marital fidelity. Somebody should tell the folks at Candie’s that somebody already done ate Bristol’s candy. The wrapper on that bar is long gone. The jokes just write themselves.

Am I missing something? How is it that an undereducated, inexperienced 19 year old can bill herself as someone who can “provide lobbying, public relations, and political consulting services?” Lobbying? Public relations? POLITICAL consulting services? Again: WTF!?!?!?! How is she even remotely qualified to do any of those things? What moron would legitimately hire her for those services? Bristol Palin might be a fine young woman, and I certainly wish her no ill will, but for her to pose as someone capable of providing the services listed, she has opened herself up to public scorn, mocking, and ridicule, and all of it deserved. Honestly, if someone were trying to make her look like a fool they could not have done a better job.

In all this delusional grandiose posturing of Bristol as something she is definitely not, there is something very reminiscent of that hapless buffoon, Shawn Eckardt. You remember old Shawn, one of the stars of Tonya Harding’s shit-head posse that tried to break Nancy Kerrigan’s legs so Harding could skate off into a gold medal? Well, Shawn was feckless, corpulent goober whose resume indicated that he had worked as a CIA consultant/operative while he was all of 16! Bristol’s claims of being a “political consultant” strike me as being about as plausible as Eckardt’s claims of being a spook.

In her defense you might say, “Why, she experienced a presidential campaign firsthand.” I’ve been viewing the moon for decades, but it does not make me an astronaut. I love sushi, but I still can’t speak Japanese. Come on. If Bristol Palin is a political consultant or can provide anyone with competent public relations advice, I am Mary Queen of Scots.

It would seem that those pulling the strings for Bristol really don’t have her best interests at heart. If they did, why would they set her up as some sort of national buffoon, ripe for parody and scorn?

Bristol, dear, let me give you a bit of unsolicited advice: ditch the morons who set up this “deal” up for you. I have no doubt that you are far more capable at making decisions which are best for you and your son than your “friends” have been. You certainly would be hard pressed to do worse than they have.

I hope this level of exposure ramps up. It's a shame that someone over 18 can't stand on her own two feet and allows her mom to use her like this.

Really? What is his occupation? How does he pay his rent? How will he support his child?

These are questions, in part, that the judges will investigate:

Is Bristol independent, does she work, does she live in her own home?
What is her occupation? How does she pay her rent? How will she support her child?

I have a 20-year-old daughter. She and most of her friends would not yet be in a position to stand on their own feet and live independently. What about a college education to start things off? Who's going to pay for it? Of course there are kids who manage this, working their way through college - and God bless them - but they are usually saddled with debt for years to come. It is simply unrealistic to think a young woman like Bristol is ready to break ties from her family. She is also emotionally and psychologically tied to them, mixed up with these grifters, and she is deeply and understandably confused if nothing else. It's just not as simple as saying "Why does Bristol allow this, why doesn't Bristol just tell her crazy parents, no?" Someone on another blog has already stated that the Palin children could likely benefit from extensive therapy. I am inclined to agree. But I am not holding my breath.

Ah ha. . . the lightbulb just went on. The LLC is a way for Bristol to have an INCOME for the custody battle. For the lawyer to say it's for Bristol's work for Candies is just a coverup. The last time Bristol did anything for Candies was in May. Why create the LLC in October? Right before the custody filings, of course.

So, you betcha that mommy dearest will be paying daughter big bucks for "PR" services. It shows income to Bristol.

  81. This maybe is too downthread but, what the heck, I'll post it anyway if anyone is still following.

To the John Does and others who say 'how is this illegal?" or "a crime?", I posit that:

IF Bristol is receiving money from SarahPAC for 'services rendered' and IF that money was donated by people THEN the reason WHY they donated becomes an important factor in the equation.

If you tell someone to please donate to my fund because the money goes to help save puppies from being put down, you expect that the money, or the majority of the money, is going to be used to, well, help keep puppies from being put down. You expect to see sizable donations made to animal rescue organizations, shelters, spay/neuter programs, etc.

If you find, however, that a majority of the money is spent on something else, even if 'overhead', then you have to face the fact that, if the cause is something you in which you believe, your money would have been better 'spent' giving it directly to the animal rescue organization, or the local shelter, etc.

In other words, if a PAC (any PAC) is spending more money on administration than on what it actually says it's going to use the money for, it is a form of fraud, and that's what I think is totally going on here. A fraud on American people to fork their money over to the PAC, when the bulk of it is going to fly Sarah around and however much family she wants, to line Meg Stapleton's and selected others pockets, and now, with the BSMP LLC, paying Bristol to watch Trig and her own son. Hey! I'd love a PAC to pay me for watching my own relatives!

But if the AFT and SarahPAC claim they are collecting donations for certain purposes, and that's not where your money primarily ends up going, that's a form of FRAUD!

Last I heard fraud is a crime.
