Newly revealed Palin e-mails show deceptive Governor and controlling spouse.

Nearly 3,000 pages of e-mails that Todd Palin exchanged with state officials, which were released to msnbc.com and NBC News by the state of Alaska under its public records law, draw a picture of a Palin administration where the governor's husband got involved in a judicial appointment, monitored contract negotiations with public employee unions, received background checks on a corporate CEO, added his approval or disapproval to state board appointments and passed financial information marked "confidential" from his oil company employer to a state attorney.

There are days and days of data to go through before we know exactly how much these e-mails reveal. But MSNBC has set up a searchable database here for that purpose.

But for right now here are a few of the ones that jumped out at the MSNBC team.

The governor coached her staff on how to disguise the amount of electrical work needed at the mansion to hook up her new tanning bed.

Palin and her staff stewed over the refusal of the state Public Safety Department to provide a plane so the children could fly to Todd's family's home in Dillingham; after all, they were going to attend a bill signing, so the travel requests could be justified. Sarah Palin called the decision "outrageous," and an aide said it provides "a great excuse to privatize" the governor's jet service. (Do you remember my post about Palin's paranoia that the sate was purposefully keeping her from having access to the one remaining government plane? Well here is more confirmation of that.)

The manager of the Palins' travel schedule searched for a public event to use as justification ("I just need one") to charge the state for an airplane flight for Palin's daughter, Willow, who made the trip but had missed the event given as its justification.

When Sarah Palin complained that the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner wrote a critical editorial after she did them the favor of meeting with the editorial board, Todd Palin advised the press chief to "take the news miner off the press release address list for a few days, see how long it takes them to realize their not on the list."

"Man, that gossip crap bugs me," Sarah Palin wrote after the Anchorage Daily News wrote about mansion repairs in its Alaska Ear political column. "Any time it has anything to do with home or family, it's irritating." A press aide apologized, saying the columnist did not to call check out stories before publishing. The residence director added, "Reminds me of junior high school, where hormonal teenagers are always looking for the drama. ... I'll do my best to avoid giving them any news nuggets."

There is a ton of redacted e-mails in this dump, but they essentially back up what we have been saying about Sarah Palin all along. What we are seeing shows a person overwhelmed by her job, overly concerned with the opinions of the media, and somebody who shared state information with people who should NOT have had access to it.

Update: Here is an e-mail sent 0n May 21, from a Janice Mason on behalf of the Division of Retirement and Benefits, requesting Trig's birth certificate so that he could be covered under Sarah's health insurance. Does anybody think they ever received those documents?

Update 2: This e-mail confirms that Todd's ticket to the Republican Governor's Association was a last minute decision and that the usual security detail was asked not to accompany them on the flight which would become famously known as "the wild ride". Well now isn't THAT interesting?

This woman is a silly, uneducated, irresponsible, mendacious, unqualified, insufferable imposter.

The more that comes out the better since hopefully it will put an end to the nonsense that this empty headed twit and her capricious family will be kept far away from the WH sooner than any national campaign will achieve.

With just a quick scan of the database...it is AMAZING how involved in daily state business un-elected, un-appointed Todd Palin really was.

I'm surprised she didn't let Piper decide which bills to veto!

But seriouly, this shouldn't surprise anyone. Many of us suspected this was the case and will be happy it is finally confirmed. Sarah didn't have the smarts or ambition to do the job by herself!

I’ve always thought it odd that First Dude Todd acted as a de facto Deputy Governor while Palin sat atop the Alaskan throne. Can you imagine if Palin had been elected VP, Todd on the floor of the Senate trying to strong arm Al Franken and Russ Feingold, slappin’ James Inhofe on the back?

    Gryphen,
OT, but an update from the Plum Line regarding the Palin vs. Limbaugh flap. Apparently Stapleton is going apeshit claiming that Greg Sargent is a secret Obama agent who set her and Palin up. Sargent has posted the very e-mail query that he sent to her:

    http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/political-media/heres-the-email-to-palin-camp-asking-for-comment-on-rush/

He very politely included Stapleton’s hotmail address as well!

How long before Palin is forced to kiss Lord Lardass’ big ol’ lardy ass? A truly gruesome punishment, to be sure.

  9. So The First Dude gave info directly from BP to a state attorney? Is it just me or is that pretty serious?

Also, too, there, he doesn't know the difference between "there" (one of his wife's very favorite words!) and "their". Oh, Todd!

    Governor Todd Palin

I knew immediately that he was the one really calling the shots. My first impression of those two was that he controlled her and probably physically abused her too.

It was Todd Palin and his crew who worked to get her in office in the first place. Though no victim, Sarah Paylin is a tool who has been and continues to be used by men in form or another..

Interesting, more proof of Todd's (illegal?) executive role. Here, a state employee is requesting a few days off work to take her son to the doctor. She addresses the email "Hello Governor and Todd" and notes in her email that:

"The standard practice has been that when the Governor is in town I ask the First Spouse if
I'm requesting a full day or days off; "

    She continues:
......."It makes sense to send a request to both of you, but let me know how you prefer that this is handled."

So Todd had power in dictating the employement issues of state employees? wow.

Wow, have been skimming through some of the emails. First and foremost comment:

ALASKANS DID NOT ELECT TODD. IT WAS SARAH THAT WAS ELECTED.

As DC metro resident for many years, I have never seen the amount of weight and power handed to anyone else that TOAD had. He won't leave the marriage because of the power and money gain. He's as much a grifter as she is and he takes full advantage of his position for power and money in that marriage.

Someone needs to kick him hard off his pedastal. Freeze his a@@ good on a snowmachine.

It's pretty obvious that Osarah can't function well without her family around. Have seen this alot with recent revelations.

She needs to fall hard and Toad should have the straight jacket ready for her. Maybe one for him too.

About the recent property tax issue? When the lady divorced Richter, or vice versa, emails show that O'sarah was very strong on making sure her name came of the property deed. O'sarah knows what she was doing about the property taxes.

"I'll do what I please until the judge tells me otherwise."

Come on judges, get with it and tell her what not to do.

    *********

This is the best quote I've seen yet to suggest SP had a good idea of how bad things could get for her family (media-wise) if she accepted McCain's invitation to join him on the ticket to become VP. And yet, she decided to say yes.

By doing so, she brought everything else that has happened upon herself. And dragged people into it who had nothing to do with it (Levi, for example).

Hubris much? I think we are seeing, and quite appropriately, pride goeth-ing before a fall.

I believe that Paylin knew NOTHING [her mayoral job had virtually one primary responsibility of signing paychecks] about being governor and had to have Toad explain to her what issues she needed to have direct involvement with and those she could pass on to employees to do the grunt work while she lapped up any glory. Let's face it, she didn't just TURN DUMB in 2008 while running for VP; she had been DUMB her entire life especially when it came to actually 'understanding' the process on how things work and actually be involved in completing the work. Whenever she could delegate important work to others, she did, but she would act as though she was the person who not only understood [by using sound bites and talking points] that issue, but who actually worked on the issue to bring about any result - be it good or bad - but she always made it appear GOOD even if very bad for the state and its citizens. [Since she has left office, we have all seen the horror she left in her wake, but that Parnel refuses to admit.]

I hope these emails prove her total lack of ability [in 'progressing her beloved AK'] and her IGNORANCE about 'ALL issues in governance' of AK proving beyond a doubt all her LIES, HYPOCRISY AND CHEATING. God KNOWS she deserves to be shown for what and who she really is - and that is not a pretty person! There has to be something in these emails that will shed light on her so that her bots can no longer REFUSE OR REFUTE the evidence so they are forced to see the person she truly is and has been.

When I was on the list for the book knowing me for years she could not believe I was in favor of "old grandma" Palin. I said no way in hell just want to see what she has to say. I told her how on the blogs people with little money give money to Sarah. She could not beleive it and she thought it was laugable that Bristol said she has it hard as a single mother. Her husband died when she was young and she said she wished she had someone like Levi to help out. She had to do it all herself and it didn't mean living with her mother, free daycare, or driving around in a new SUV.

Todd Palin made a statement during Troopergate about his role as “First Dude”-

“I have heard criticism that I am too involved with my wife’s administration. My wife and I are very close. We are each other’s best friend. I have helped her in every stage of her career the best I can, and she has helped me. Few complained when Susan Knowles was helping Tony Knowles. Few comlained when Nancy Murkowski was helping Frank Murkowski. Frank Murkowski even issued a memo telling everyone his wife was his closest advisor and would travel wherever he went. It is unfair to apply a double standard against my wife just because she is the state’s first female governor.”

Just a theory: the people at the very top of the rethug party are VERY powerful, manipulative, well-informed (of dirt on others, not necessarily world events or important stuff), and wealthy. The one thing they all agree on is: they do NOT want the tea bagger movement to get out of hand and split power and donations away from the rethug party (or to make the rethug party look SOOOO looney that they can't get the indy votes). Of ALL people, the RETHUGS have the most to gain by releasing all this information now, getting the MSM to pick up on tax-gate, email gate, and other gates, now, and starting the tea bagger/Palin downfall now. Now – on the eve of the tea bagger 'convention', which I am confident has been infiltrated by rethug higher up operatives. They will use the Palins every way possible: on the way up, to capitalize on their star appeal – and they will also contribute to their downfall, if necessary. The Wasilla hillbillies are out of their league when dealing with these higher-ups, many of whom remain (publicly) nameless and behind the scenes.

In two years (2010), after all these scandals have had their complete run, Mittens or Jeb Bush will look absolutely new and virginal. Like completely new, interesting, and re-packaged candidates. And I predict the media will treat either one of them like that at that time.

The evangelicals have been against Mittens from day one: his mormonism and pinkish gay credentials are more than they can stomach; he was never pure enough in their eyes. While they liked Jeb, they also suspected him of not being pure enough and not really being one of them. Romney, Bush, and the rethug higher-ups essentially have to disempower the tea baggers and Palinbots at this time and scatter their movements, and then recoup their money, adoration, and votes later on, when needed. There is a LOT more here, I think, than meets the eye.

    Just my take on things.

Gryphen, all due respect, since you were not out in front of the PACgate, Taxgate, or EMailgate stories of the last three days, I have to tell you (and I've followed you faithfully for over a year) just what is it that you are Out in Front Of? And with all due respect, saying after a story breaks that it is something you could not tell beforehand, but want to take credit for, just does not look good. This is something that has been pointed out by others before.

I am truly sorry because I do enjoy your writing and viewpoint on a great number of subjects, but as time goes by, you seem to be "behing the bus" on so many of them. Today, you were the last of the blogs I visit to have anything up about the MSNBC report.

In light of the great amount of new information out there, can you update your followers on what, in general terms, you are still working on?

Trust me, I still do have respect for what you know and how you are handling the situation, if my assumptions are correct (that is, you cannot say, until the source says). This would appear to have been further reinforced by Andrew Sullivan, who posted some of his readers responses that dealt with the release

Sarah won't back out at the Teabaggers ball, more than ever she needs to be in deep with her sheep (we'll see if the McCain endorsement really is a wedge issue) to feel the love in spite of it all - and to make what she believes to be the most important speech in American history.

Her thighs must be burning, running for sanity and comin up with the best speechifying and strategery ever. Hey, if she feels the Branchflower report exonerated her, imagine how this family values email explosion is going to play in her favor. Us Godless liberal elites wanted to keep her and her family apart, we wanted to appoint judge advocates, and so on.

I think back to her arbitrary grade school method of cutting State budget programs (not a state responsibility in the margins.) Sure a lot of these programs were cherry picked, wined and lobbied through the process, but they were vetted - not like our nuveau Chief Executive.

But how was it her personal and professional family life anymore the State's responsibility? All that travel for trivial and impulsive reasons, just any excuse to have someone else pick up the tab for an indulgent, if not extravegant lifestyle. Lack of demeanor, self-restraint, poor impulse control and sophistication, combined with new money,
found money coupled with seemingly unlimited (or enabled) power sure was a recipe for what is now the Palin Problem.

They are a Flesh and Blood example of what Government would look like in the hands of Teabaggers.

    Hi Gryphen,

I tried to send you a private email but it failed for some reason. Can you explain to me why you added something on to my post? I am certain that the following was not added by me:

I know this was not me because this is not what I was thinking and therefore would not have added it as an afterthought. Even if I had, I would have added the p.s., indicating it was an item for futher thought. If this was a thought from you, it was not clearly delinated as such. I shall wait to hear from you before I draw any conclusions.

    Thank you,

  72. Susan, not only did I NOT alter your comment, I don't believe that Blogger even gives me that option.

As for your original comment, I have to take offense at your contention that I have not broken any stories. Actually I have broken numerous stories. However even if I had not I am not sure what your point would have been.

I am after all a blogger, and not really an investigative journalist. Occasionally I wear that hat but it is not really in my comfort zone for the most part.

BTW I don't feel compelled to always be the first person to cover a story, and my friends will tell you that I give them stories to do that I think they will do a better job with and visa versa. I have had a hand in some recent stories but don't mention it because who cares?

Remember blogging does not pay my bills and I have to work for a living as well as sleep and leave the house occasionally. So of course I may miss something or be late to the party.

As for the things I am personally working on, the reason I don't mention them very often is because this blog is being so carefully monitored now. Even a passing reference could scare away a source or screwup a pending interview.

I would LOVE to give updates, but dare not do so because in the past that has made my job harder.

I have NEVER taken my eye off of the ball and continue to work to get the truth out.

That is the best I can promise. If it does not meet your standards then of course you don't have to visit. When I break my next big story you will know even if you are no longer visiting here daily. Trust me on that.

  73. Oh BTW I have NO idea what Archivist was talking about.

If he comes back perhaps he could clarify.

The Trig story certainly does not belong to me and if somebody else came out with some new information that would be great. I very much doubt it will be the same as what I have.

  74. I listened to Arianna Huffington on MSNBC tonight. She commented on Sarah's tax and email stories. I agreed with Arianna when she said those who like Sarah will continue to like Sarah and those who dislike her will continue to dislike her after reading these news stories.

It's the people "in the middle" about their feelings for Sarah who will be influenced most.

    I think that's a good thing.

Tawdy-boy &S'error have lots to answer for:

    * 1. Receiving confidential information re: topics the governor would normally not get, but which would be received by other staffers. Think background search info on a private citizen/CEO.
    * 2. Using state funds for state property being bought and paid even though he was not a contractor entitled to state equipment in order for communications to be appropriately handled or an employee. Think Blackberry. Even if Tawdy was an 'unpaid' advisor, they are never entitled to the use of any state property.Period.
    * 3. Violating Tawdy's employer's confidentiality by sending clearly identified confidential company information first to himself, then on to others. BP is going to have a field day with Tawdy over this, and nothing he can do/say will help him. Every Fortune 500 company, heck most companies, require you to sign a document stating you understand that certain information is not to be disseminated to others. BP can also go after anyone receiving said confidential information.
    * 4. Even if Celtic Diva gets (or already got) a refund for the outrageous fee she paid for far fewer e-mails, AK has to make it right to every other organization or individual who previously requested state information under FOI. Responsible parties for fulfilling FOI's need to get there act together.
    * 5. Nepotism rears its ugly head, given the extensive use of Tawdy in performing the governor's duties. Executive branches of government tend to strictly narrow who may be involved in running the government.
    * 6. No matter that someone may be a spouse, there is still a CONFIDENTIALITY agreement that S'error herself had to sign indicating she understood that certain information/documents were not to be discussed outside of those with appropriate clearance and who have signed their own agreements. . S'error absolutely did violate this. Find the S'error signed document about this, and she falls down even further below than h-e-double hockey sticks.

    Cryphen.

My heart and thoughts are with the good and beautiful people of Alaska...who have been scammed and hoodwinked by the Palins.

Do you suppose boy Todd was in training for his AIP role to secede from Federation?

Hopefully the citizens of Alaska will show you, Bree and other Alaskan Bloggers their thanks for the hard work you all have put in for exposing the Palin dynasty.

    Hi Gryphen

Just wanted to throw a little support your way after reading the comment from Susan in MD. The majority of us here greatly appreciate your efforts and realize that you have a job, family, friends etc. We don't expect you to spend every waking moment on Sister Sarah. We also know that researching all of your leads takes a great deal of your time and we salute your dedication to exposing Sarah Palin for the fraud that she is.

Thanks for all that you do!

Had the McCain/Palin ticket won, I do not think McCain would have lived very long. Todd and Sarah would have been waaay over their heads in D.C. and been little more than puppets. As long as Sarah had the government (us taxpayers) pay for her high-end lifestyle, she would have played ball.

To Anonymous 2:35 - great theory. Very plausible.

How could it be otherwise? With the Republican power brokers, the male elites in her religious sect, the rank-and-file misogynists in the tea bag movement, how on earth did Sarah really believe she could wield power on her own? Apparently, she didn't care because she never really has.

It's the same as when Game Change came out. The very next day, Fox announced Palin would join the team as an analyst.

I saw on one of the emails re MatMaid that Chuckie Heath was up to his eyeballs in those negotiations. I'm sorry I didn't think to copy the link, but you can search on MSNBC's data source for MatMaid to find it.

AK Government truly was/is a family affair since Parnell has kept all the key players in this farce.

    I can't thank you enough for all you've done and continue to do Gryph! {{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}

The interesting thing about Ivy Frye's series of emails in the March 17-19 2008 period that asked about private email accounts, and question after question about how emails on private accounts could be kept secret, is that....

the last one on March 19th is emailed to Todd and Sarah Palin's private email accounts.

For whom do YOU think the babysitter was asking questions?

Let's also inject the fact that Sarah was LAZY when it came down to the nuts and bolts of governing minutiae - she just wanted the adoring crowds (look at her, so you g, so confident. . .) and good press, PR events and travel. Anytime anyone dare criticize her or offer advice, she'd bristle and be on guard.

Let's remember her coming off the greeting line of her bamboozled fans and coming face to face in a follow up interview with Katie, you could see the punch drunk euphoria slough off her face and her guard go up. A wariness and irritation (in subsequent interviews and in her own book, she says she's sorry she wasn't more professional, wore her irritation - why couldn't all aspects of the campaign consist of boilerplate soundbites, exaulted crowds and thousands of people screaming her name and reaching out to touch her?) if it were only that easy, Sarah could be President.

The Palin's need to pick a place out of their many properties and go into seclusion. Reading any of their emails over two years, add the campaign trail and book tour, this family is in dire need to nuclear nesting. Leave the outside world alone for awhile until you grow up.

Gryphen, I tried to post last night but lost power just before I hit send. I haven't been able to get satellite all morning.

I wanted the chance to say that when I went back and re-read my original post, it came off badly and was NOT what I was trying to portray at all. And I didn't say you didn't break any stories. What got in the way of that was my feeling that my post had been added to. And if I did add that then clearly I contradicted the whole rest of my post. Which is why it made no sense to me. I even expressed my confusion to my husband, who I rarely, if ever, involve in what we discuss on these blogs. But moving on, if you'll allow...

I wasn't trying to criticize you. I was venting frustation in general and in particular, thinking aloud with my fingers. Speculation is not anything new to these blogs when it comes to Palin. The point I was trying to make was that the information that you have said all along that you have (that you cannot yet reveal) is, by process of elimination, given the recent revelations obviously is not connected to taxgate, cabingate or emailgate. Does that make sense? It was the comment from Archivist that was frustrating to me. My fault there.

I have been a friend and a supporter of this blog for more than a year. I have watched you take the worst kind of heat for reasons that you did not deserve. I have never ever been one of the ones to try and taunt you to say what you know before the time was right, even though the cliffhangers and nuggets were, at times, taunting. So I don't think it's fair for you to say to me that "if I don't like something then just don't visit here anymore."

When I read the post again, I think you mistook my concern for you and the information you've worked hard on. But as you say, if someone else reveals it, so be it. It would not bother you and that's fine. I could go back and dissect my post, possibly re-wording it to better reflect what was actually on my mind. It has bugged the crap out of for the last 12 hours.

I gotta hit post here soon before we lose power again. Gryphen, you are doing so much more than I would be able to do. I would look like a complete idiot criticizing you for that. And I don't think I've made a habit of that on any of these blogs. I hope this post clarifies. Keep doing your best.

    Thanks - Susan in MD

Well, we don't know each other but we are concerned with the veracity of media published perceptions of ambitious personalities with regional personas and invisible financial ties to behind the scene soap sellers and whot not. There's ample room for sharpening each other up here and there. Just tell as it is remembering you yourself are captive to your own selected inputs. I.E., if you believe potentially false print media premises what you build your own stories upon, you'll see a decided "tilt" when your story gets written and I don't mean to the left. I believe print media in Alaska is generally arrogant, spoiled, and rejects inputs, is frightened of national media moguls, is bamboozled by local phony personalities and right leaning politicos and have become by choice merely a police blotter with a gaggle of photographers with ad sales. I reject them out of hand because of it. They are the local rendition of "Faux News". It's a loss. If you want news you actually have to turn to the blogs these days in Anchorage and some of them are fronts for the government too with contracts and everything. It makes for a small living; doesn't it. So, I'm afraid we are seeing strange days ahead.
