Sarah Palin is NOT being paid a million dollars per episode for her Alaska unreality show!

I have been hearing this rumor for over a week now, and I always thought it sounded wrong, but EVERYBODY kept repeating that Palin would receive a million dollars for each episode of her show on TLC so I remained confused on the topic.

Finally the Daily Beast has received some clarification:

Contrary to popular opinion, cable network TLC thinks audiences can learn something from Sarah Palin, and the company is willing to pay her roughly $250,000 per episode, or $2 million in total, to educate them.

That’s the ballpark amount the woman formerly known as the governor of Alaska will pocket from the sale of an eight-episode documentary series to the Discovery-owned network, sources familiar with the project told The Daily Beast.

I still believe that Palin is being substantially overpaid for this program, but now at least we can put to bed that ridiculous rumor about a million dollars per episode.  TLC is going to lose enough money as it is.

By the way while I am on the subject of wildlife in Alaska, I have received a number of comments and e-mail from some of you about a teaser that showed up on AlaskaWTF yesterday concerning a story about Willow.

As many of you pointed out I had also mentioned that I was working on a story about Willow. I am.

I am not sure exactly sure what AlaskaWTF has uncovered, or how much of it is related to my investigation, but like you I am going to head on over there on Monday to see what they have.

WHat will Palin's show do for - or to - Alaska's tourist industry? How much is is going to cost the state to correct the misinformation that is most likely going to be spewed by that person.

Can the state sue for damages?

Continue to voice your opposition to Palin's show. TLC has to be made to understand that MANY PEOPLE will be boycotting their channels as well as their sponsors. Keep the pressure on!

It doesn't matter to me if Palin is paid $1million or $1 per episode, this lying sociopath has nothing to teach anyone about anything. TLC should not be helping to finance her next campaign or giving her air time to further promote herself.

That is a lot of money for her to give to all those charities she speaks of... umm yeah ah huh.
Sarah you are such a leach of the mighty dollar- Although in a few years I do see you as a Tammy Faye Baker of money leachers... ya know your make-up will just all start runnin' into itself like a "Picaso Freak of Politics".
I only ask that the cameras are rolling while you have your melt-down... number one hit on youtube!

I think that it is wrong for Discovery and TLC to be promoting one political view over others. That is what they are doing when they give Sarah Palin a format, even if it a tour of Alaska.

Everything that she did as governor was contraversial, from denying climate change, endangering the environment with drilling, pipelines or mining, hunting animals from airplanes and taking other animals off of the endangered species list.

Sarah reguarly incites violence, and despite her protest that taking up arms means voting, putting cross hairs on targets is meanings killing, not electing. I continue to send letters of protest to Discovery and TLC because Sarah Palin already has a format for her hate speech. She is exactly where she belongs, Fox TV. I hope that she wears her biker jacket for her next political appearance.

The consolation is it's TLC, Discovery's channel for the carnival freakshow! Home of hoarders and pouty brides and Jersey cake-bakers! Oh, and the lady with 19 kids. It makes me laugh. "Ladies and Gentleman, come one come all. See the Palin. Don't be afraid."

The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.

    Two points:

    1. Considering the money that Alaskan taxpayers will be losing through the incentives that Johnny Ellis got through, TLC will be making back tons of money from tax credits. See Shannyn Moore's site for details. That new Discovery Channel CEO, being a Fox guy, is no dope. He knows how to work all the angles and use people to maximize profits.
    2. Please don't write off how important this is simply because the show will be on scummy TLC. It still gives Sarah a worldwide platform to enhance her celebrity status which could mean millions more folks will be taken in by her false persona and then listen to her hated screeds later. Please sign the petition mentioned on this site and others (in comments) to stop this show. Over a thousand signatures were added overnight! The current total is just over 4,000 but is growing as more people learn about it. That's an important indicator about how many people across the nation and overseas are truly against this and against Sarah herself.

A million or a quarter of a million per show, it's still big money and TLC knows what and who are going to attract an audience. Unfortunately Palin is hugely popular still no matter how sad it makes us and Gryphen. When she finally quits her public appearances she's going to be a very wealthy woman. This is assuming that she doesn't have another run at high political office. After all, the stage is set now.

If this trainwreck continues, I'm hoping at least for a crossover ep of 'I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant: The Sarah Palin Guide to Hiding It.'

  11. Way overpaid since she won't do much.

You'll see her at the beginning introducing something and maybe at the end. They will be prepared statements written by the documentary film company, NOT Palin.

The rest will be narrated by someone else (Mike Rowe maybe?) and the subject matter will NOT be under Palin's control.

    She'll be a talking head.

And since she's being paid per episode, if she doesn't toe the line, she'll be replaced with a different Alaskan or some other available name. And if she doesn't appear, she doesn't get paid.

The ratings are still going to tank. Good luck finding any sponsors to pay for advertising. Besides the NRA.

Maybe Willow has been upset trying to negotiate what she will be paid in this TLC dill. Acting out is her way to be heard.

  13. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but wouldn't TLC's (i.e. The Learning Channel's)$2 million be better spent providing math and science full college scholarships to a few high school seniors?

Or, maybe they could use that air time and money to produce a program that really qualifies as "teaching and learning?" Maybe it could address something like, regressive gene pools and be called:

"The Sarah Palin Phenomenon: Scientific proof that humans are descended from apes."

Episode 1: Driving rational folks out of their trees.
Episode 2: Migrating with the Woolly Mammoth.
Episode 3: Tribal religion: Gods and demons--which is witch?
Episode 4: Hunting techniques. Using offspring as bait.
Episode 5: The careless use of sticks and stones.
Episode 6: Getting rid of tribal elders.
    Episode 7: Playing with fire.
Episode 8: Neanderthals. Did they do it to themselves?

I don't care if she did this for free. She's about as qualified for this show as she was for any other thing she's screwed up.

And if she herself gets a tax break from the State for her participation in this abortion, she is ripping off the State even more. This should really piss you Alaskans off.

Get her filthy hands out of the taxpayers' money.

The question that keeps popping up is "Who is going to do the rest of the show(s) after the first 38 minutes of the first episode??"

Clearly not sister since her attention span is less than 4 minutes....

Ahh, the Swag-Hag strikes again... Poor Meg.. don't you think she's homesick??? (teehee...)..Winski

Shannyn Moore wrote on HuffPo that during Sarah's administration, a law was put in place giving tax credits to film companies who work in Alaska. So, it is no wonder that TLC already has a number of programs based in Alasaka. For TLC, they won't actually be spending as much as we think; tax credits.

Now, the quesiton is: Are Sarah and Rupert enjoying tax credits from her Wasilla-based Fox stuio, from which Sarah delivers political talking points???

I read an interesting post on another website that suggested the possibility that TLC might have some 'difficulty' filming this series in Alaska.

That people will show up to demonstrate against Palin during the filming.

I'm going to just bet that Palin will not be very involved in any particular shoot - she'll just do voice overs and spliced in commentary from her 'TV snuggie' that FOX set up for her in her home.

  18. After witnessing her performances in AZ yesterday and this morning, whatever amount she manages to extort from TLC will be excessive.

  19. Thanks for the update, still she is getting far too much for her continuing to exploit my state...
Palin has always been substantially overpaid. Why? Everything she's done is worthless....

I think it was originally intended to be a higher pay day per episode but they are having a hard time getting big name sponsors for this pathetic excuse of a show. Yesterday on huff post there was an article saying none of the big sponsors want to touch it.

Hopefully even more will back away and her show will be stopped before it starts.

Peter Liguori & Mark Burnett - the brains behind this Palin show. Remember their names and don't support anything they are a part of. They are irresponsible, unethical, and deceiving the American people (imo). (What are their political persuasions, need I ask?)

It would be a good idea for our Alaskan friends to create a loose organization and travel fund so that a changing group of protesters can show up when episodes are being filmed. In addition to each group doing a full onsite protest, with filming, there are fun little extras, like showing up before the main entourage and parking wherever is the most in the way. Coming up with Anti-Palin merchandise to sell during the filming, with funds being donated to the targeted Dems on the crosshair map. Doing skits and songs about the eyerolling idiocy that is Palin. Think of it as Palin's "Anti-entourage," dogging her footsteps, celebrating the trainwreck in the snarkiest way possible.

  24. Hard to imagine that Quittypants would be willing to give up opportunities like this -- with pay of $250,000 per episode -- to be the President of the US with an annual salary of $400,000. Plus, she would have to actually work. I don't think we're at risk of The Sarah™ heading off to run for president. It's all too much work and the pay is very, very low.

My jaw dropped as I read our Alaska film incentives. We Alaskans will essentially be paying at least 40% of Sarah's salary. EEEEK. Everything she touches turns ugly.

WHat will Palin's show do for - or to - Alaska's tourist industry?

One of the things about the TLC show for Alaskan business is that more people will believe in "Sarah Palin's Alaska", especially if they use a top quality filmmaker. You can sell almost anything. Who would want to miss out on the last frontier, the end times and all?? When they come to Alaska, they will spend money on all the wonderful winter sports or camping, hunting, shooting and fishing on one of the beautiful lakes where you can buy your own lot and stay to the end.

This will help Alaska's tourist industry. Look at what she did for McCain, most of those folks in Arizona were there to see Sarah, not McCain. She appeals to men. The photography can make or break this show. Breathtaking scenes with shots of Sarah doing what she does best is good for business. The Iditarod can use a boost, it won't be the same when the snow melts.

  27. I haven't even heard about this show surprisingly. I guess it depends on what way they choose to go with the show. It could be interesting for those who have never seen Alaska. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

  28. Even at $250,000 $arah is still overpaid. She should be paying TLC, not the other way around.
