Michael Steele dismisses Sarah Palin kerfuffle, cites racism as reason he has smaller margin of error, and says he is not going anywhere despite Republican calls for his resignation. Damn, am I loving this!

Steele was asked if he felt he has a smaller margin of error than others because he's black.

"The honest answer is yes. It just is," the former Maryland lieutenant governor said. "Barack Obama has a slimmer margin than others."

When was the last time YOU heard the Chairman of the RNC discussing that he and the Democratic President of the United States faced the same kind of prejudice?  Wow, that has to make the GOP sphincters tighten right up doesn't it?

You know one of the reasons that I find this Michael Steele thing so fascinating is that the racially insensitive GOP put him into the chairman position in a poorly thought out knee jerk reaction to Barack Obama and now they are clearly stuck with him.

If they fire him they will forever cement their reputation as a "whites only" party and destroy the barely perceived progress they have made to put that image to rest by bringing in candidates like Bobby Jindal and selecting token ethnic spokespeople to appear on television on their behalf like the ridiculous Ron Christie.

No the RNC is most likely stuck with Steele until he gets a better offer. In fact Steele may have the most secure job in politics.

He could probably get caught in hotel room with a bathtub full of cocaine and a half dozen hookers and STILL keep his job.

Wasn't the guy who went up against Steele for the RNC Chairmanship the one who released "Barack the Magic Negro" ??

They were in a rock and a hard place.

Michael Steele is the very embodiment of affirmative action within the GOP. He is a feckless buffoon who can't seem to go an entire week without doing something stupid enough to make the national press notice. His problems haven't a damn thing to do with his race. He is simply an imbecile. That he is an imbecile of color simply proves that equality truly is a two way street: people of color can be incompetent morons just like the fat old white guys if that is all that they aspire to.

I wish Michael Steele well and hope that he scores a lifetime reappointment as RNC chair, and I hope that he leads a healthy, vigorous, and LONG life full of gaffes, errors, and monumental screw-ups for decades to come.

    Here's to you, Chairman Steele.

Gotta love the WH response "It's not the race card, it's the credit card".
Actually he is probably allowed a larger margin of incompetence because the GOP needs him as a prop to appeal to voters of color. It's a tough pickle to swallow for the racist element of the party. They lose either way they go.

gotta agree, gryphen. the guy is a joke but they're stuck with him because, as you said, they hired him as a knee jerk reaction to obama's election. just another example of that party having to deal with their chickens coming home. funny stuff!

Michael Steele jammed himself down the throats of the GOP after President Obama's election and now they're going to have to choke on him.

I love the way the RNC has scaled back their spending by going to Hawaii for a freakin' meeting. Yeah, that's fiscal responsibility all right! If we handled our personal budget like that, hub and I would be in the poor house.

Held to a smaller margin or error because of race? GIVE ME A BREAK HERE! Since when? And to compare himself with President Obama just because they share the same racial background is just nuts.

    Blech.

    I loved this part:

"... My view on politics is much more grassroots oriented ... so I tend to, you know, come at it a little bit stronger, a little bit more street-wise. That's rubbed some feathers the wrong way."

Hmmm.... "Streetwise?" You mean to tell me that Michael Steele considers himself to be... *gasp*... a community organizer?!?!? I'm shocked! Shocked, I say!

    In response to Gasman,

Which is it? Steele is a beneficiary of affirmative action or Steele is a buffoon regardless of his race? Actually, I don't know any black folks who actually claim him. He seems right at home in the GOP. He's no different that Glen Beck, Limbaugh, Rove, and Palin. Michael Steele is just another conservative, GOP opportunist. He was a cynical choice for the GOP--because of his race.

Steele is a rarity... a black person "in power," though incompetent, who is actually making money. Usually, only incompetent whites (Palin, Beck, Bush) fail upward.

As a black woman I don't feel one bit sorry for Steele. He's just like Justice Thomas who claims racism doesn't exist until something happens to him and then they cry racism, justified or not, from the rooftops. The Republicans had an intelligent, more qualified conservative, Kenneth Blackwell, to choose from, and picked Steele because Blackwell was serious and intellectual and they thought they needed a charismatic black guy to counter a charismatic black President. Turns out our president is serious and intellectual as well as charismatic and they are stuck with an incredibly stupid lose cannon they can't get rid of until after the midterms. HA. HA. HA.

Shortly after Steele's taking over the RNC, a Huffpost poster commented that Steele would the the RNC's way of showing that 'Hey, we've got a black one too, we're diverse, we love everyone no matter what! Please vote us back into power!' Since people of color are interchangeable in their world, no matter what their talents, intelligence, or abilities he was the perfect counter to Obama (hahahahahah!)

The commenter continued writing that the RNC would allow Steele to helm the organization for a little while, but knowing his incompetence, he would probably not last the remainder of his term. At that point, the RNC could say 'See, this is what happens when you hire one of THEM! THEY are all incompetent, we gave one of THEM a chance and look what happened!' That resonated with me. Seriously, I can't name the last five RNC chairmen without looking them up, yet Steele is in the news, tied to something outrageous, almost on a weekly basis.

I'm sure the RNC, in their limited, prejudiced world-view, figured that people would look at incompetent Steele and eventually start thinking that Obama, by virtue of sharing a skin color with their goofy pet, is just as incapable. It's funny to me that their stupid experiment to keep another black person from becoming president is blowing up in their faces and imploding their party.

  13. Yes, I am loving this too. As long as the Republican Party insists on everything being a knee jerk reaction without any thought whatsoever, this is what they can expect. It never ceases to amaze me that they think the American public is so very stupid. First it was Sarah Palin to counter Hillary, and then they thought, "why not our very own African American" to show that we are not racists after all. Yes, I think probably Michael Steele has one of the most secure jobs in D.C. They cannot fire him and he knows it. Yes, Mr. Steele you just keep doing what you're doing.

  14. Agree w/ most of above comments, would just add this -- being a "token" does have it's advantages...you stand out, if you perform well it's noticed, but the reverse is true as well, and Steele is obviously suffering from the latter...as far as Palin -- see how deep the rabbit hole goes...

  15. "In fact Steele may have the most secure job in politics."

From what I hear, this truly is the most 'secure' job in politics. :o)

I understand that, if he were to resign, he would lose any type (if any) benefits he has -- which he would be able to keep if/whenever he were to be fired.

If this is so, there is no reason he would quit -- but better for him, if he was fired.

Is this true? I am not sure, but it sounds right.

  16. I love this . . . .
When will the GOP learn? The have been reacting instead of acting since the moment President Obama was elected. They run around like sugared up children trying to play tricks and get the better of the grownups who just want to save the country from eight years of Bush stupidity.

Propping up teabaggers, The Party of No, Steele, Palin. All stupid moves on the GOP side. Now they just need to stew in the rotten mess they've made. Good for them. . . . .

  17. Robert Gibbs: "Michael Steele's problem is not the Race Card -- it's the Credit Card"

    bwahahahahhaha!

I LOVE the credit card remark that Gibbs made in reference to Steele's self-inflicted dilemma. It serves the GOP exactly right for selecting someone as their answer to Obama, without realizing that this man's intelligence doesn't even remotely approach Obama's. The same thing goes for Palin, who is Hillary Clinton's polar opposite in terms of intellect. Steele is the gift that keeps giving to Democrats, because he unfailingly does or says something monumentally stupid.
It's hilariously funny to hear him try to play the race card, when he has accused Democrats of doing the same thing. When people like Carter, or even Obama, talked about the racism among GOP members, they knew exactly what they were talking about. Steele, on the other hand, is using it to deflect attention from his abysmal record as RNC chairman.
