New Rules for April 16, 2010.
Do not bother watching this unless you have your open minded humor detector turned up to eleven.
In just a little over six minutes Bill skewers just about everything and everyone, and it is hilarious. Even though much of it will probably make you squirm.
When you get to the end you will see a little poke at our least favorite half-term governor.
(By the way I learned to resist the urge to post these until Sundays. If you embed them too early, while the original show is still being broadcast, HBO will make you take them down.)

While the follow-up zingers about the Russian boy were funny (Steele, Karzai), the remarks about the boy himself were heartless. I have always thought of you as a strong child advocate, Gryphen. I'm surprised that you would laugh at such a tragic situation for that child. Regardless of his "baggage", he is still a little boy with no parents and probably a victim of horrific abuse from somewhere. All children deserve to be loved regardless of their issues.

ReplyDeleteThe Globe and Mail has a complete transcript of Palin's Canada speech, and it is classic! Every sentence is a joy. And she suggests that Todd has nothing to do with her pregnancy with Trig (huh?). Enjoyed it.

ReplyDeletethe family were perfectly right to return the boy to Russia. He tortured and killed the family pets. He threatened to burn the house down when everyone was sleeping. He stuck pins in the carpeting and called his new mom up to step on them.
ReplyDeleteThis is not a normal child in any way, shape, or form. This family was not told he had severe psychological problems. For the safety of their family, they returned the defective child.
Good for them! It's called responsibility.
I have to echo 100% what WakeUpAmerica said. As an adult adoptee and a mom (and adoptive mom), I am appalled by what that woman did to this boy. For God's sake, he was a KID!!! You don't compare a kid to the leader of Afghanistan, Palin or even the Pope. They are adults and therefore ostensibly responsible for their own behavior. This kid was probably the product of a compromised (I'm being nice here) early childhood. I am a HUGE fan of Bill Maher's but he hasn't clue one when it comes to kids. He should leave that topic alone. I am flabbergasted, Gryphen, that you would include that rant in your blog. I thought you stood up for kids.
ReplyDeleteI am having a hard time with access to your blog too. Sometimes freezes up computer. Other times opens up 30 or so windows. Think someone is messing with my computer because I frequent your blog?

ReplyDeletethe kid was a sociopath. possibly the product of fas, attachment disorder, dna--any number of factors. the end result was that he was too dangerous for this family to handle. i would not expect anyone to take on something like that. he wasn't just "a kid." he was a menace to this family and i don't blame them one bit.
ReplyDeleteGood God, there is no such thing as a "defective child", that is an inhuman and insulting term. There are defective cars, radios and i-pods, but not children. This kid did not ask to be born or treated as he was. CLEARLY he had issues, no one is disputing that. The adoption agency and DSS should have been brought into the picture. Do you think that children with other disabilities are "defective" as well? I guess some people are fortunate that everyone is just perfect in their little worlds. What is wrong with people?

It's an acknowledged term in the medical community. Children with severe mental problems are called "defective".
We now know there are defective MOMS, there is one living in Wasilla AK, and she was the half gov.
