Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey

Franklin Graham LOVES the Muslims. If only they would convert to Christianity.
It is unbelievable that Graham believes that HE represents ALL Christians and that being disinvited is a "slap at all Evangelical Christians". Then listen as he goes on to trash Islam while bitching that HIS religion is being attacked.
By the way it seems to escape Graham's logic that if "Muslims everywhere were to repent their sins" and accept Jesus Christ as their savior they would no longer BE Muslims. They would then in fact be Christians.
How can Franklin Graham claim to love the Muslim people if he wants to deny their faith and convert them to HIS religion? This kind of Christian gives Christians all over the world a bad name.
No wonder they are keeping him from the Pentagon.
Oh and by the way the so-called "Secularization" of our government was first put in place by our founding fathers, who did not want America to be controlled by a powerful church like they had seen happen in Europe.

This is exactly the arrogance and false logic that Brit Hume displayed in being convinced that merely suggesting that Tiger Woods accept Jesus Christ as his personal savior (not only would all be forgiven) but he'd be a better person than Tiger as a Buddhist.
ReplyDeleteThe fundys have it made, hide behind Jesus and you have a lifelong get out of jail free card. You get to enjoy and revel in licking the bottom of the barrel (a la Glenn Beck) and live rich and well off of telling others how not to live.
Boy, this crybaby meme of Franklin is really tarnishing his polished world-wide learjet-rescue brigade hero act isn't it?
Kudos to Mikey Weintein, Leah Burton, and the Military Religious Freedom Foundation for successfully lobbying for Franklin Graham to be dis-invited from the Pentagon. BTW, Franklin Graham's sister, Ruth, was always the better preacher and religious leader than her brother and much better suited to take over Billy Graham's organization, but Billy just couldn't get past that old Southern Baptist prejudice toward women being in leadership positions.
ReplyDeleteIt's always so sad when ultra 'christians' are persecuted when all they want to do is tell others how to live their lives by forcing their beliefs down their throats. All we really need to get America back on track is bastardized theocratic rule and more 'do as I say, not as I do.' mentality.
ReplyDeleteMy heart bleeds for these people who are obviously so much better than the rest of us unwashed, uncivilized, unchurched masses. They truly know what is best for everyone in this country, since they keep saying they do, right?
With so much intolerance in common, you'd think these two groups would be best buds.
ReplyDeleteIt just doesn't get better than this. I am reminded of my personal hero, Justice Louis Brandeis, who said:
ReplyDelete"Publicity is justly commended as a remedy for social and industrial diseases. Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants; electric light the most efficient policeman."
Social disease. Ah, so.
The more these people talk, the more they expose their bigoted philosophies to the bright sun, and the more they convince ordinary Americans that the modern Dark Age of religious infiltration of the US govt must come to an end.
And, by all accounts, it is. Ahhhhh...to breathe free again. It feels GOOD!
"I am being restricted from my religious rights" What? How? What religious right does Franklin have to 'speak at the pentagon?' Do I have that same right?
ReplyDeleteGraham is a lobbyist, not a religious figure.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Gryph. The comments above really nailed it.
ReplyDeleteOT - can you track down and post Keith Olberman's special comment from last night? It was addressed to John McCain and it was a HOMERUN!!
The Christian fundies have been screaming oppression for years. I find them oppressive. Religious zealots are a crime against humanity. Spirituality is a personal matter. Mind your own damn business, you religious bigot!!
ReplyDeleteMuslims are getting a pass for WHAT?
ReplyDeleteA pass for not trying to shove their religion down the nation's throat like Graham is doing with his?
There should BE no "national day of prayer" when there IS a separation of church and state.
"I don't believe Muhammad can lead anybody to God," Graham said. "I love Muslim people and I care for them very much and I want Muslims everywhere to know what I know -- that Jesus Christ died for their sins."
Graham you are entitled to believe what ever you like, but you do not KNOW that "Jesus died for their sins"...........you BELIEVE that, but you do not KNOW that.
THAT is exactly WHY there is a separation of church and state.
The founding fathers came from countries ruled by churches claiming just what Graham is.
Claiming to KNOW what they merely BELIEVE and creating laws from their beliefs.
Even if your invisible friend were real like my invisible friend is, my invisible friend could still kick your invisible friend's ass 'cause my invisible friend is right. So there. BTW, the bulldozers will be here in 10 minutes to knock down your house 'cause my invisible friend said I could have your land.
ReplyDeleteAnd they just can't understand why atheism is growing and religion is shrinking. Yeah, that's a tough one to figure out.
Hoken:
ReplyDeleteThe thing is that they respond to the growth of atheism by moving further to the right, which damages religion MORE, and so on. It's a viscious cycle.
I wish the sane religious people would get press for a change.
Would it be 'Un-Christian' for those guys to get a decent haircut???
ReplyDeleteYa know, something different than what my Mom did to me 40 years ago - cut it straight across the forehead???
Well see, and then you get something like this.
ReplyDeleteMagically perfectly timed:

Note this statement in the article:
"While we are extremely disappointed when any Christian leader engages in the very activities that they "preach" against, it is not surprising."
That's Extreme Christians for ya! The same goes for Extreme Muslims.
'DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO'.
None of it is about Faith. It's all about MALE power.
Women have no power in the Catholic Church.
Women have no power in the Islam Community.
Again, it's not about any Faith. It's about Power and who has it and who wants it and who's really most powerful.
"I don't believe Muhammad can lead anybody to God,"
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, where is god??? Really, tell me.
If only YOU can lead anyone to God, surely you'd tell everyone OUT LOUD and in the open.
If you did (or could) surely all the Muslims, Atheists, Agnostics, Jews even, would flock to your map to god.
Preferably through Google Maps.
But you can't. You can't even KNOW that there's a god, period.
If you do know, prove it to me.
I'm waiting....
Hoken:
ReplyDelete"Even if your invisible friend were real like my invisible friend is, my invisible friend could still kick your invisible friend's ass 'cause my invisible friend is right."
Too effin' funny - it sounds like something from 'Religilous' or something!!
Brilliant!
Wonderful comments on this post!
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't just--poof--religious freedom when they reached "the new world," either, as schoolbooks wanted us to believe. My ancestor, a preacher in Maine, was jailed in the late 1600's because basically he wasn't establishment church.
